As we seen player who been in it play a Fair Bit in the VFL.

So why do we have Leaders who Play VFL and Not AFL where there Leadership is Needed.

2014:
In all, the 2014 leadership group comprises eight players; Pendlebury as captain, Maxwell, Ball, Nathan Brown, Lachlan Keeffe, Steele Sidebottom, Clinton Young and Travis Cloke.

Young and Keeffe played a Bit of VFL and Keeffe was found to taken Drugs over that Off-Season

2015:
Pendlebury, who succeeded Nick Maxwell as captain in 2014, will lead a group of four vice-captains that includes Travis Cloke, Nathan Brown, Steele Sidebottom and Tyson Goldsack.

Goldsack and Brown again played some VFL Footy.

2016:

Taylor Adams and Brent Macaffer have been named in Collingwood’s leadership group for the 2016 season.

The up-and-coming midfielder and the 2010 Premiership player will join captain Scott Pendlebury, as well as Steele Sidebottom and Nathan Brown in the five-man team.

TD we need leaders everywhere. We need them in the 2s and the senior team. I really think it is great Caff and Brown can lead by example for the 2s so they have something to aspire to. Besides, I do not think Brown will be in the 2s for too long anyways. The more senior exposure our 2s get whether that is actual game time or watching a senior player prepare for games, it is great for the development of the entire foundation of our youth.

The only issue I have with the club this year is not holding players to account. It's all nice and wonderful doing it to Cloke but the entire team needs to be held at the exact same sort of standard. That sort of leadership stems from the useless selection panel we have had the past few years, which is completely not there at all.

TradeDraft the players pick the leadership group or have a big say.

That said, this whole group thing is in my view being done in an overboard fashion.
The old days of one captain, one vice captain and say one deputy vice captain seems best still.
Keep it simple. Everyone knows who the leaders are outside of the main three.

For us it would then be really simple:

Scott captain
Steele vice captain

And throw in say
Taylor Adams as deputy vice captain.

And leave it at that. Sometimes simple just cuts through and makes sense.

Then is Macaffer and Brown are in the reserves they can take de facto leadership roles there.

though he wouldn't do it off field a guy like Dane Swan can show on field leadership as support.

In future

Darcy Moore captain
Adam Treloar vice captain
De Goey deputy

Something like that.

I love Taylor Adams to be captain, even if it is now.
Leading as example, passionate, courageous, aggressive and vocal.
Also, he need a guy less aggressive like Steele or Moore to be the vice-captain.

I think this isn't a bad thread. I've mentioned it before that our experienced guys just don't seem to be leaders. That is really hurting us right now when you have these kids being forced to play and no-one there pulling them into line.

Unfortunately Pendles isn't a captain. A VC maybe. Hopefully Scharenberg can develop into a leader of the backline and maybe Crocker was selected due to him being Captain down out the Chargers. We need to find them.

I'm very surprised Nick Maxwell didn't stay at the club in some leadership capacity. Even as the defensive coach. He seems astute and got the best out of himself and the players around him.

Letting GWS get him from under us was really poor. I think leadership is very under-rated and we are seeing it now.
