I know he is a gun play, but as a neutral supporter, i reckon ( i know my opinion doesnt count for much) that leon davis will never have a premiership medallion around his neck. Football is all about premierships, and although he was a major contributor in getting collingwood there, he will never lead you or win you a win on the big stage. The best move in my opinion would be to trade him for, say a 1st and 2nd rounder and a gun players. I am trying to put my hatred of collingwood behind me in my opinion, and i am sure i am way off, but just an opinion (the same applies with travis cloke by the way)

anyways im back to my own territory

Leon is the icing, not the cake. We need to win the inside football and get it in his hands, and we haven't been able to win footy throughout the finals series.

Look at Travis Varcoe. He looks good tonight because Corey, Bartel, Selwood etc win contested footy.

the difference between travis varcoe and leon davis, is varcoe is known as the icing on the cake, whilst neon leon is known as the cake, leon's trade value would probably exceed what his importance is,you have to trade quality to get quality!

I don't think you're a troll... and sadly I do agree with you about Leon. He has had so many chances to prove himself yet he keeps disappointing me.

I don't necessarily agree about Cloke, but only because he's younger. Give me a couple of years and I might agree with you, though. Hopefully I dont, but he needs time to prove himself.

Was it so hard to ignore it?

It's a few hours after a shattering loss......surely you expected this thread not to go down well with some posters?

to be 100% honest, if you are trying to reach sympathy out of me, good luck, because i couldnt be happier, i didn;t intend to be a troll and i still don't, i just raised a discussion and was interested in the response, and an opinion of leon davis. if it is too hard to resist insulting me because i am a carlton supporter, i am sure, instead of derailing the discussion, you can keep the random, pointless insults to yourself

Correct. This is what I am saying. When we can build a deeper midfield to the point of where Leon can rely on the other ball winners, then he stands a chance to receive a premiership medal.

I'm getting fed up with his poor finals performances.

Now I know he might be carrying a niggle but please Leon, no more media crap about how you've learnt what it means to work hard, that you're going to redeem yourself for your shit finals series blah blah blah.

We've heard it all before (most recently after the saints final) and you're yet to deliver in the finals, when it counts. Let your actions do the talking next year.

is it worth giving up the "icing" for an integral part of the cake, teams would give up alot for leon davis, the footy world, myself included, rate leon davis extremely highly, infact bordering on elite. So in return collingwood, would receive what would be both an inside midfielder, or a key forward or whatever, and a classy outside player. The 1.000.000 dollar question is whether davis is more important than that. Is it silly of me to state that port would probably be willing to place boak and burguyne on the line for davis. That would fill holes and replace holes of which davis would leave.

I'll assume you meant gun player (singular). I'm sure there would be no issue from anyone at Collingwood if the Eagles offered the Pies their 1st and 2nd round picks and threw Daniel Kerr in as well because their nice guys.

Seriously though you're on drugs if you think anyone is giving up a pick higher than 15 for Davis. Why all this talk about trading Davis and Cloke, don't astute investors sell at the top of the market, not the bottom.

Collingwood would be lucky to offload either for a 1st round pick. Especially given that the last two 1 round picks traded by clubs have worked out in favour of the team receiving the pick (Footscray got pick #19, Callan Ward, for Jordan McMahon; Melbourne got pick #14, Jack Grimes, for Travis Johnstone).

We've stuck by him for a long time. Player movement is very hard at the best of times. He won't be going anywhere.

We're better off just developing what we have, like the cats and saints. We'll no doubt improve through the midfield again next year with another pre-season into the young bodies.

I'm sure if we do look to trade it'll be our first round selection on the table rather than Leon.

Never actually insulted you......don't know where you got that from.

Anyway, I'm just pointing out that posting this thread right after the game was always going to get a few people annoyed. If you were going to get upset when people reacted as they did, leaving it till the next day probably would've been the go.

Anyway, I have no problem with the thread myself, and I agree with most of what you said in the OP, except that imo he's too old to be of much value on the trade market.

please, you'll be putting down both davis and collingwood by comparing davis to mcmahon or TJ. Don't get me wrong, leon davis is cream of the crop, he is a top quality player and demands at least a 1st and 2nd rounder pick (assuming that a good side would get him, as the icing on the cake). He is only 27 if my calculations are correct, and he is better than your average cream of the crop. As a neutral supporter,i beleive collingwood's first priority is to develop a strong, premiership winning midfield, and a key forward.which although would need a cream of the crop midfielder, leon davis would be the quickest route to either of these deficiencies (and i am aware of how important pendles is to your midfield). Its all abouit looking at priorities, and from a personal perspective, collingwood have enough little x-factor players that can turn a match apart to makke up for leon davis, just not enough grunt midfielders and big bodies to win a premiership. And leon's trade value would be high enough to deliver that

fair enough, you obviously know more about your squad then i do, i figured that leon would be worth more than what you guys think he would be, surely he would have another 3 or 4 years of top quality football left

Nope, Leon will be 29 next year and now has a rather unflattering finals record. 1st+2nd round picks = 24 year old Judd, not 29 year old Davis.

Anyway, despite his poor finals record I still don't want to trade him.

that changes everything. 29 :O. I feel abit silly now, probably worth keeping now that he is 29. Still think he would warrant a 1st rounder, he is absolutely elite. Anyways, although i couldnt be happier that the pies lost, the AFL is better off with a succesful Carlton and Collingwood, best of luck to both teams, and hopefully our rivalry can build to something further then pettiness, and be based on both teams being succesful. I'm off to sleep, hopefully i have contributed to your board a little bit

Yes he has had a shite finals series & has struggled in most of our finals campaigns but his effort this year in home & away has played a big part in us getting there. AA for christ's sake. Being the size he is he could serve us for another 3 to 4 years & in those years, given the experience, could turn it on in finals. If he dosen't, surely his worth in the H & A is enough to keep him.

I cannot beleive i am trying to justify Leons place in the side....

Leon was a school yard bully this season, brilliant in the home and away season, went missing when it really counts, finals footy. He will be looked at when the list is reviewed, l will bet my house on it. He was given the opportunity to really shine this finals series and he didn't give a yelp.

Dead Eye, who exactly did shine. On that basis most of our players are in trouble..... Leon's had a good year and went missing at the end... as did swan.... as did didak.... as did our entire forward line....

The only player that may have helped his reputation would be Thomas.
