It's more because he was only just recently the first player cited for staging. One would think he may stop it at least for a little while. Last night's effort was not good.

But agree that it happens a lot and is not highlighted enough. I ####en hate the shit. I think when each match is reviewed for MRP reports they need to be looking just as hard for staging/diving and start throwing warnings and fines out and then suspensions.

And yes I am very aware SJ can be as bad as anyone and I would LOVE for him to be rubbed out for a week or two next time he does. Would hopefully stop it dead in it's tracks.

The fact it's now a "reportable offence" infers that a suspension is the punishment.

Regardless - he should be fined then.

It's a bad look. I don't like anyone diving, even from my club. He might get a fine now, and he's certainly getting named and shamed. All I ask is that the multitude of other sinners get the same treatment, and Jetta doesn't suffer for being the first to be pinged, which was extremely arbitrary.

This. And to add to it the injury he received was as a result of him throwing himslef backwards and taking the tackler with him.

Lots of players stage and try to milk a free kick but only one has been oficially reprimanded for doing it and he did it again that is not very smart. On the upside for him though he should have company on the reprimanded for staging list when Crowley joins.

Watched the replay and laughed. if he's not gone then the AFL has a big problem. Essendon have always done this. It's what Lloyd is remembered for. Monfries is no better. Geelong and West Coast are great at staging for high tackles with Joel Selwood being particularly adept. Funnily enough Buddy (who seems to get monster-ed on a regular basis) is often accused of staging although I haven't seen anything from him that comes close since Brian Lake punched him off the ball in 2007 (Game date and time and I'm Happy if you want to prove your point . Buddy seems to have taken this out of his game). I hope the AFL take this seriously.
 
Jetta and Crowley will both be getting a letter from the MRP I'd suggest.

Players need to cut this shit out, there's a big difference between hamming it up a little so the ump takes notice when you're being man handled and blatantly throwing yourself on the ground to milk a free.

Was very poor from Leroy, don't care what the AFL do. I want Hird to tell him first hand it's not on, not only is it a poor look but he automatically takes himself out of the contest to win the ball.

The hysteria from opposition fans in this thread is funny though, every club has players who act it up if Leroy has to be the guy who takes the fall for everyone so be it, but if we really want it stamped out then all players who dive need to be named and shamed.
 
Congrats Dapper & Cozmo and various others for at least saying it is shit, I'm just disappointed a few others couldn't see it. We are very protective when it comes to our teams and I understand this but 2 in 3 weeks.
Be surprised if he isn't pulled aside at training.
 
Clearly Jetta was attempting to avoid the MCG seagulls and in no way took a dive. Either that or a martian UFO was firing a death beam.

Anyhow, he won't get more than a fine for it under the laws. The laws need to be toughened to weed it out.

-MRP instructed to be more stringent on staging, with excessive exaggeration of contact in an unsportsmanlike manner to be a reportable offence in addition to feigning contact.

Amendments to the Tribunal Guidelines
To allow the MRP to take a more stringent approach to staging
by clarifying that excessive exaggeration of contact in an
unsportsmanlike manner will also be reportable.

misconduct staging

A player will be reported for staging. Staging can include excessive
exaggeration of contact in an unsportsmanlike manner. Staging
shall be a reportable offence as it may:

affect umpires' decision-making;
incite a melee;
not be in the spirit of the game (unsportsmanlike);

If a player is reprimanded for a first offence of staging the
reprimand will be valid for the remainder of his career.

Misconduct (staging)-Penalties

Offence 1-Written Reprimand

Offence 2- $1600 ($1200 with early guilty plea reduction)

Offence 3- $2400 ($1800)

Absurd that Leroy got off. One of the most blatant attempts at staging for a free that I've ever seen. If Leroy didn't stage for a free then there is no point having the rule.
