As much as I hate how the dogs or any team has won the grannie except richmond and the amount of bandwagon fans they have you really got to watch and think

The dogs were almost nowhere two years ago , captain walked out , coach sacked , if that was us it would be crazy . but we learnt is that it can be turned around fast if you get it right with your development and coaching .

Let's be honest the dogs players in that team are filled with almost nobodies . McLean , hambling , cordy , like who are they ? But they have something we don't have which is the mental toughness and resillance . they don't make excuses for injuries etc they get the job done and have a great footy department behind them

One can only hope with balme here we can get the same type of quick turnaround too

we aren't the dogs to have only won 2 flags over 100 years we are richmond and it's time we pulled our finger out and won number 11

the hate melts would be delicious think bulldogs but complete opposite

nobody but us wants us to win another cup , we need to beat 17 other teams, the media and all the other clubs supporters

i think balme should drill that into the club where possible

I shudder to think of the hate melts from some of our own posters.

They have one superstar (bontempelli) in their midfield and look how well he is protected by his team mates. Unlike our stars he isn't required to do all the grunt work and has the lesser players in Liberatore, Smith, Picken, Dalhuas and McCrae doing more of the grunt work. He still wins plenty of contested ball but he doesn't spend much time at the bottom of a pack. Which we need to be able to have Cotchin and Martin spending less time on the bottom of packs and rather have them being the ones fed the ball and clearing it from there.

Prestia is a step in the right direction in this regard as would Mitchell if we picked him up. Even if we miss out on Mitchell, picking up Brodie or Taranto would be another step in the right direction. Add Vlastuin and have Corey Ellis step up and all of sudden our midfield has the potential to match the best in the comp.

What it says to me is in 95 or 01 we could have won it with a little luck.

There are always iffy years like 93 or the cats choke (was it 08?). This will year will be another one. It's just damn bad luck for us that 95 and 01 had dominant premiership teams that no one could match.

The lesson is that if those pathetic losers from footscray can win it from 7th, so can we.

Helen , Melbourne would explode if we won one, the Tigers would burn the place to the ground in the celebrations

No, the lesson is that the Dogs are a much better managed, run and coached club.

True...
For the Team to start protecting Cotchin...
it would mean players would have to leave their Zone and be involved in the contest/maul..watching out for Cotch...
This would require a big change in tactics from Dimma...
I cringe when I see such a fine player in Cotchin being smashed/tagged/at the bottom of the packs...
You don't take a rolls Royce to a demolition derby if you want to smash tractors...

Sorry. I don't think that's relevant in this context. St kilda made the granny a few years ago and if there's any club that beats us for **** ups it's definitely them. Likewise Melbourne made it a few years ago.

The top 4 clubs this year are all well run and coached. Good on the bulldogs for winning from 7th. But if they can anyone can.

Gotta keep pick 6 and use it on a 190cm midfielder. Dimma and the new coaches need to bring tackling into our game big time.
Alter the game style and bring more pressure around the ball. Game plans aren't that much different from club to club. It's the players and the intent which makes your club good. Use our trades to bring in Prestia, a ruck and a key tall at each end of the ground.

They also don't play their drafted mids at halfback , i mean libba , bont macrae etc , I know them as mids most of the time , I worry that vlstuin is ruined now

There were no standout teams this year. Swans were the best and even we beat them ffs! If a team was going to win from outside the top 4 this was the year and the bye also may have helped.
Funny thing is I think we could have given it a go last year but got the worst match up we could have asked for in the first week.
Having said that though, there are deeper problems at our club. Mentally week and let teams back into games we have under control (last years elim, Carlton elim, Geelong this year).

The major lesson to be learned from the dogs is that even when umpires/AFL are helping you, they were still only within a kick of Sydney before taking it away in the last 10 minutes
Effing disgraceful...
take the legs out from a swans player nearly rupture his ligaments and its a free to the dog player cos his head was touched by the swans knee...
