Let's talk Ports! Part 3

Club needs a circuit breaker maybe a members night with Ken, Koch and Richo up on stage taking questions? I know won't happen but should.
We did it twice, didn’t we?

If you're talking about the member convention it's turned out to be an opportunity to make people pay additional money to be sold that Total Football™ was coming which was proved to be gaslighting when we served up the same boring dross of 2015-2022.

Imagine thinking our game plan was something worth separating people from their phones for lol.

Maybe it wasn't secrecy, they just knew that if they didn't take the phones people would get bored and surf Facebook and Bigfooty instead of listening? That's what I spend most of our games doing.

It was awesome. It was a pretty good opportunity for accountability.

This would also be the reason why the 2019 convention was bad. If I’m not mistaken, instead of reviewing what went wrong in 2018, we simply pointed what we would do in 2019.

Then, the event wasn’t held in 2020. I don’t remember the reason. I think it wouldn’t happen regardless of the pandemic.

It was part of the event’s charm, I suppose. It adds gravitas. I like it.

fair to say when we lose to carlton this is gonna get a fair run.

i still remember the video clip they showed at the AGM of how we'll be doing kick ins. i think patronising is the word to describe how it felt.

Now that we’ve turned to shit and know for certain that we missed the boat to win a premiership, I’m absolutely devastated about letting 2020 slip.

At least in 2021 we were beaten by the better team in the Prelim and know for a fact that we would never have beaten Melbourne, but 2020 just had absolutely everything going for us:

  • Pandemic
  • 150th year
  • No MCG Grand Final
  • Beatable Geelong in GF
  • Team on top of the ladder after Round 1 every leap year this century stat

I’d love nothing more in the world than to have that trophy in our cabinet at Alberton. All things considering that probably would have been the best year of my life.

Copy paste spin. It's all we'd receive from them, Ken is on a wage and that is his main concern. Koch is waiting till a contract expires as it's a hell of a lot easier than admitting he got it wrong and resign. Richo...Richo I have no idea about as I have stopped reading emails long ago or researching anything Port says as I now only wait results. The dreaming ended long ago

They were all day member conventions.

The club for many years used to do a members info night with the Prez and CEO taking members question in early to late August started about 7pm. Think it started before we entered the AFL. IIRC it was something Brian Cunningham brought in after he was made CEO in 1992.

I'm pretty sure KT did the last one in 2012 a week or two after we sacked Matthew Primus. KT took questions from everyone. I was supposed to be the second last one and he had been on stage for well over an hour, and KT said no, we will take more from the floor and made sure everyone who wanted to ask a question - and had the guts to do so - got to ask it, and the evening went for well over 2 hours all up.

That didn’t take long. A return to Sunday Twilight.

Haha that was so predictable after getting many good time slots when we were flying the last 2 years.

Rds 1-8 last year were locked in up front and we got a Saturday arvo twilight game v Essendon, then Friday night v Richmond, Sunday night ANZAC day v St Kilda with the Monday being a public holiday and then home showdown on saturday night.

The next 6 home games ignoring the home game at Docklands because of Covid stuff was;

2 Thursday nights, 2 Saturday twilight 4.05pm games, a Saturday night game, and traditional Freo 4.10pm Sunday rd 11 game.

Even the 7 away games we got good time slots, a Friday night game, 2 Saturday night games, a Sunday 3.20pm game AEST on 7 national coverage and the Sunday 4.40pm game AEST was moved to 6.40pm for TV purposes when Covid was causing havoc to the schedule during the Olympics.

The members’ convention was a bit different, but those events are great.

We need that a.s.a.p.

Not only are they wrong about off the field that the club is stronger.

They allowed Rucci of all people to write a statement and actually post it...

"Hinkley arrived at Alberton - while many others refused to look up the suburb on their electronic street directories - vowing (before he even knew the qualities of his players) that Port Adelaide would "never, ever give up!"

Oh my God, just **** off ferret head.

Oh my God, just fu** off ferret head.
Hinkley arrived at Alberton because no other AFL club was interested in hiring the inarticulate nuffy despite countless interviews and over 10 years as an assistant.

Hinkley wasn’t the last man standing, he was the only one standing. I get it. His first two seasons were great. I get that too.

Great!” “Awesome!” “Thank you, Kenny!” All deserved. We have recovered our self pride with him. It’s fair to recognize it. I’m not unthankful. However…

Our loyalty should be to the club. No man is greater than the Port Adelaide Football Club. One can only hope to become A PART of Port’s enviable tradition.

No one should be there for the prestige, for the social life, nor for the bloody joke. Anyone at the club is bound to give his everything, to strive with all his POWER, and to make personal sacrifices for the common end — premierships; furthering Port’s unexcelled achievements.

I was watching a video on our 2014 season. It was really amazing. But that only makes 2015-2019 sadder. And we cannot pretend those FIVE YEARS never happened.

We just had two good seasons. Are we willing to have another five years of nothing because of that? If so, why? In which part of the Creed would this be justified? When did “almost” or, worse, “mediocrity” became part of our constitution?

We are Port Adelaide” should be more than an empty phrase.
