just wondering if anyone can tell me how justin (dogga) harney previously @ navarre goes we have just signed him as an assistant coach and have heard that he is a more then handy player

You can not sign a clearance form until Feb, therefore you can not sign anyone up to play for a club till next year. However, you can get players to sign contracts. These contracts are still not solid and are valid only in stopping a player from going to another club in the league, but you can at least get a commitment.

The real test will come in Feb when clearance forms are lodged and clubs release players. Still pre-christmas is the most important time to have done the recruiting and some the good clubs will have the majority of their recruiting sorted by then.
very true, wasnt a clearance though, only waters would need one anyway seeing as though fitzgerald was overseas last year

was a meeting at porters house last night, fitzy and ross put pen to paper
That would have been an interesting meeting was there much GRASS being thrown around LOL, i heard of a good source waters was going to bell post hill, havent heard anything about waters going back to C/L, would it be worth it i heard he is pretty big these days, would be a handy pick up tho

haha not as much grass and you would think, he is definately not pulling on a bell post hill jumper though

Can anyone detail any new recruits that any clubs have confirmed
Ararat Eagles have formalised their senior coaching panel with Brett Sladdin (coach this year) and Dennis Bell from Ararat Gason Rats as joint senior coaches. Also the club can anounce the signing of Tatyoon premiership midfielder Brad Wilson as senior assistant coach.
The club has signed up young guns Aiden Bell and Ben Birch-Burton from Ararat Gason Rats, Scott Wilson(Brad's Brother) from Tatyoon and former senior B&F winner in Brett McCarthur from Hamilton in the western border league. Club in talks with a few more players and with a player loss expected to be minimal this year, lets hope we can be far more competitive next year!!!

Sounds like things are going well for the eagles then, would be good to see them improve and try and make a push for a finals spot, it would help your recruiting out, if they could put in some good performances good luck:thumbsu:

Yeah i just heard that from someone around taty. Bradd is a good young kid but hasnt gone about going the best way with telling a few porkies to locals around taty. He isnt a midfielder he played backline all year. Well atleast his brother will finally get a senior game.

By the sound of the posts:

Ararat have done well and will be very much improved. The key question is have the improved enough if other clubs keep moving forward
Navarre - always expect them to work hard on recruiting and I think they will hold their ground from last year
Natte - Have not heard much - is MacMaster and C Jardine playing next year. These were two new recruits and very good players
Lexton - Expect them to improve with new coach Johnson
Illabarook - Have not heard much
carngham - Always expect them to be strong
Rokewood - Few key losses - The big unknown
Skipton - From all accounts working very hard on recruiting and keen to make amends for lost Grand final

It seems the league is getting stronger and more even.

Yes Very good news for the club, its good to see these sort of blokes putting pen to paper, to hopefully give us some on field success and give us a bit of respect back, and give the people soem joy that have done the hard yards over the past three to five years:thumbsu:

true the more on field success we have the better the club will be for the future and it will hopefully get the younger guys to stay and some of the other blokes around ararat to jump on board so that we get better and better so that the club will be around for years to come

I agree that the league it getting stronger and hopfully this will help it so that a few other clubs around the area in years to come will join the league and get it to a very strong and sustainable league.:thumbsu:

I respectfully disagree with the stronger and more even comment. I will make the statement now that CL, Skipton and Rokewood will not be beaten by anyone lower than them for the entire year. There will be no 2009 senior flag flying at any other club than the above mentioned 3.

Eagles should be more competitive, have done well picking up some good young players, but Scott Wilson will not get a kick next year, the boy has no heart and is always sooking about some new injury, listens to Daddy to much:D

This will be the great challenge. This year Navarre gave Skipton a 40 point wake up call and Illabarook went within 2 points at Skipton. If teams can improve 10 to 20% which is a big ask, then the top 3 could be in for a shake up

The first month should really provide any indication if any other sides can take it up to the 3 stronger clubs.

Interesting if the players rumored to be leaving Rokewood are true, then this will make a massive dint to Rokewood being a strong top 3.

The great think about the way the league has progressed has been the even nature of the bottom 5 (except Ararat for the last 3 years).

One of the challenges that I believe Central Highland faces is the gap btw top and middle. Very hard now for clubs to compete with the professionalism of the clubs like Hepburn.

Anyway, these are my thoughts only

Great news for the club.. Does anyone know if the league has made a decision on whether they are going to change the age levels for the Unders football??

Good points. The positive is that in LPFL you should be able to turn a poor performing club around in 2-3 years and all clubs pay realistic amounts out per annum that they will be able to sustain. I can't see many teams in the CHFL turning themselves into finals chances without unsustainable spending.

The first month of footy does not matter in the grand scheme of things as the top teams have shown in previous years. A weakness of the LPFL is that CL, Skipton and Rokewood knowthey are going to play finals in 2009 and they would be 90% certain they will all have the double chance.

Illabarook were off the pace when it counted. They work well as a team but really struggle in the finals due to a lack of genuine match winners in my opinion. Hopefully they recruit well and go a little further this year.

I never know what to make of Navarre. Big things are talked about yearly and little has been delivered. Will Bigmore take any players as I heard he is coaching Rapanyip. I thought they had a few clearly better players in their 2's than a few in the ones so I wasn't too sure of what to make of that.

Natte could be a dark horse if they pick a few players up. Keep in mind this team came 3rd, 3rd and 2nd before this year's 7th. I think there was an unhealthy reliance on 1 player though in their 3 good years. A quality forward should be their highest priority.

Lexton are another team I think could improve on last year. Johnson will be a good employment. He's fit and obviously works hard.

Ararat can hopefully win a handful of games this year. I think they would have to hit the season very fit and hope to snag a couple early and then build on that.

Anyway, enough footy. Have a good Christmas and New Year.
