Gold. :D

Should organise something along the lines of the WC wings one. I'll vote. That paddlepop is a disgrace. Was great seeing the original vs Essendon.

Jeez, we don't like the paddlepop and you want to add wings to it? Are you sure you weren't a member of the Brisbane board?

:p

From the outside looking in it seems to me the members of this triple premiership club are disgruntled because of

(a) Voss being sacked despite many football experts inside and outside the club thinking him to be an underperformer
(b) the Paddle Pop Lion

Doesnt on face value seem to be enough reason for a boardroom spill? What are the real reasons?

Years and years of multimillion dollar losses, those losses being taken out of the football department, and a repeated disregard for members' opinions, instead running it as their personal fiefdom. They did some good, the Springwood club specifically and the Springfield training site seems promising, but it's hard to argue we're in a stronger position than we were before these guys joined the board in the early 2000s in most cases.

The handling of Voss is a sticking point but not particularly relevant - it's not the sacking, but the way in which it was done after a year of saying "at the end of the season", it suddenly becomes "three weeks before the end of the season because Melbourne might get to talk to Roos first". There would've been a lot less backlash had it been left to the end of the year because they had been saying precisely that - that his position would be reviewed then.

It will only be a dream ticket when they bring back Gubby Allen
Dream... or nightmare? We've only just finally managed to get our salary cap fixed from last time!

What a farce.

It was a difficult call, but the right one.

Pure populist nonsense, this reaction.

Board unanimously axes Voss then a few members listen to talkback and worry about how it was handled?

Basket case

Yeah, so you have entirely missed the big picture that this has just been the last straw in a long line of poor performance.

Seems to be more rage from the media and ex players then there is from the general populous, as most of us think its the right call could it of been handled better maybe.

Did you forget : Brayshaw. J or sounds better just sounding out Ed

I did, and Dunstall, J.

Ed's got a bigger profile, so he popped into my head first as an example. I don't watch TFS enough to notice Brayshaw. The point was that there are board members that have prominent media exposure.

I love how much collingwood hate us!!!!
I have lot of time for Brissy.
I think Lethal is doing the right thing.
Collingwood had a similarly emotive spill when Ed took over from Kevin Rose and replaced Shaw with Malthouse admittedly in the right order.
Hopefully the transition goes well.

And the 2 board members who agreed with axeing Voss now seek to topple the others, whom they supported a week ago?

Talk me through that....

Or you could just read existing posts in this and other threads and see it is not about the specific decision to not renew Voss's contract. Don't like you enough to hold your hand and give you one-on-one service UTG.

You never show ME this level of affection.

If Johnson had replaced Voss with someone of Malthouse' calibre I don't think his position would be under threat. At least not to this extent.

Sooner or later Voss had to due to the performances over his five years. Yes there was a review of the club a few years ago but even most people would believe that giving him two more years wouldn't have improved the team.

I do think the current board has to stand down but I that's unlikely to happen at this point. I would like to hear more on what Leigh would like to do with the Lions. There hasn't been much information on that yet.

Obviously. If he had pulled a Freo (Harvs->Lyin') he could get away with such an act if he actually got his man. But he didn't and he isn't going to so he must GTFO.

Sacking Voss without a coach being locked in is a major issue, but IF Matthews returns in some official capacity it makes the club a more attractive proposition.
Love to see Matthews take the reins again.:D

In case any neutrals are still interested in this:

Prominent Queensland-based businessman Bob Sharpless has been appointed to the Board of the Brisbane Lions.

Mr Sharpless is the Deputy Chairman of the Springfield Land Corporation as well as a long-time Lions’ member and a life-long AFL supporter.

He joins the Lions’ Board with the endorsement of the AFL.

Mr Sharpless’ appointment as a specialist Director was approved by the Board during a meeting of all Directors in Brisbane this afternoon.

The Board also received legal advice from the Club’s lawyers establishing that Leigh Matthews and Ross Thornton do not qualify for appointment as elected Directors under the Club’s Constitution as they are Life Members and only Full Members with 2 years continuous membership are eligible for appointment as Directors at a General Meeting.

Life Members are not Full Members under the Club’s Constitution.

The Board will meet again to resolve matters relating to the EGM.

Basically Leigh won't be able to join until the new board is elected, if that happens. Leigh has since quoted these two statements:
