Max Bailey: Obviously is still recovering from ACL injury but the Hawthorn supporters are hopeful that big Max can come out next season and string some games together.

Chance Bateman: Struggled with injury early on and the general consensus is that he just couldn't' get his fitness base up to scratch and consequently struggled during the year.

Grant Birchall: Played the set up role well with his great kicking a highlight although at times I feel he was forced to take on other roles due to lack of experienced backmen early in the season.

Campbell Brown: Gold Coast, my favorite player gone has hit me hard but at the end of the day you play football for a very short time, sometimes shorter then you realize and to try and get the most out of it is only natural. I will miss his ferocious attack on the ball and wish him all the best for season 2011.

Shaun Burgoyne: Injury ruined the first half of the season for Burger, however what I did see of him was very impressive, his ability to find space and deliver to the forward line was IMO worth all the chasing we did to secure him and despite the doom sayers I think he will only get better next season.

Trent Croad: So sad to lose such a great player to injury he exploits Will never be forgotten in the 08 GF. (Laying that ripper bump with a broken bone in his foot)

Beau Dowler: Did not manage a game despite being relatively uninjured, many are saying his time at the HFC is up but I'm Glad we gave the kid a chance at AFL level he had shown great talent in the u/18 comp such a shame he has struggled at AFL level.

Taylor Duryea: Yet to Debut but talk is he has talent and speed to burn however I have limited knowledge on this player.

Xavier Ellis: Had a solid year and was wonderful for us at times I think, like his name, he really is the X factor as far as the team is concerned some great skills and sound decision making makes him a valuable player to the HFC, another pre-season under his belt should help him on his way to the player we all hope and dream he will be.

Lance Franklin: Played another remarkable season this year capped off when one of the best running goals the AFL season has seen for a long time. He was forced to move up the ground regularly this season compared with other season due to the fluctuating delivery and failure to deliver the ball to him in the forward 50 this being said he done a wonderful job carrying the ball for us with key runners down and out and was one of our best all season.

Josh Gibson: A major blow to our GF aspirations when he blew his hamstring very early in the season but despite this he slotted back into the team remarkably well in round 15 and played some wonderful football toward the end of the season. He will be very important in 2011.

Stephen Gilham: played good consistent football all year IMO: outweighed on bigger opponents at times and still managed to do a great job with little help from some of the other injured backs. He done a wonderful job for us and was our most consistent back all year. My new favorite player has arrived :thumbsu:

Sam Grimley: Developing ruckman has been working hard by all accounts and hope fully in the next couple of year we should reap the rewards for this fellow, has a lot of physical development to come and played 10-15 games for box hill reserves.

Brent Guerra: Just like Gilham, Guerra played very close to his most consistent year on record his work in the back-line was exemplary. he worked in around the packs as well as some fine delivery by foot in setting up play not to mention his off the ball work was fantastic and certainly without Brent and Gilham we would of been throughly embarrassed a couple of times this season.

Luke Hodge: I not sure this even needs to be said but Luke played one of his best season to date. He played with little to know help at times and on a few occasion was a lone hand in a defeat, he was tagged, scragged, injured and sore but again and again he played some fantastic football and it was a credit to him the way he applied himself I just hope he is offered some help next season because I cannot see him doing it all, all the time. B&F by a mile.

Rhan Hooper: Played some good football at times however struggled with injury for most of the season and thus his fitness based suffered. His hamstring should hopefully receive plenty of attention in the off season and following a good pre-season I think can be of great value. PS No known issues with behaviour that I know of which I will take as a sign he is happy at hawthorn.

Rick Ladson: Although he did not recapture his 08 form he was good at times, many have said it is make or break time for laddo next season although many people have written him off altogether. He was managed very carefully in the pre-season this year and hopefully it will see him have another 08 blistering in the pre-season although what will happen with this player is uncertain although I hope he can reclaim his rightful placing the team.

Jordan Lewis: Had a good year after working very hard in the pre-season with many observers notice a distinct dropping in weight and moving all the better for it. Although he played a couple of cracking games early he was given some scathing criticism and went on to play one of his better seasons. Just not sure on his role in the team sometimes however his negating forward role worked a treat a couple of times, perhaps this would be a good role for him in the future?

Jordan Lisle: No games in 2010 although he was looked at closely a number of times. He has obviously shown talent and could very well be a feature in the very near future.

Luke Lowden: Another of our ruck prospects who played a couple of games for Box Hill. Hopefully given a couple of years he will be a regular Hawk however further development awaits this lad of 204cm.

Sam Mitchell: Once again he was one of regular best in the mids this year. He was classy without being dominant in quite a few games and should once again poll well in the PC Medal.

Jarryd Morton: Although he played some great games in 09 he received little game opportunities in 2010 and many have postulated that in his 4th season that it will be his last. Despite being a personal favourite 5 games in a season he should of staked as his own might very well be his last.

Thomas Murphy: Although he is constantly run down by some Hawks supporters I personally think he done a great job in 2010 some shocking effort in the last couple of season earned him the Hawk evil eye but I think he has really made a solid effort of it this season. He has cut back some of his poor decision making to lay down a fine 2010 season and when we struggled so badly for fit backmen he stood up. Well done Murph.

Beau Muston: Although he worked very hard this season he only managed 5 games in a season he should of perhaps made his own, we seen some magic in 2009 from this man and it has been disappointing that he missed out in rekindling that form. I hope he isn't traded or delisted because I genuinely like the kid, hopefully they can find him another role in the side but it would be fair to say that he may be offered up if the right deal reveals itself.

Michael Osbourne: I seriously love this guy, he adds pace is a great jump and has my favourite thing in a footballer: hardness. He's not the biggest guy on the ground but he throw himself at every contest, he earns his spot every week and his 2010 season was more then appreciated by the hawks faithful. He is able to kick goals and is diverse enough to do defensive tagging roles as well as win his own football. The big problem will be replacing him, he's 28 now and I don't see another footballer like him in the team. Loved his game in 2010.

Brent Renouf: Many have said that despite his burns early in the season 2010 is his best season yet with many saying that he will be number one ruck from now on in with Simon Taylor's role in the team teating on the edge. He worked very hard around the ground and IMO would be very close to most improved player for season 2010.

Cyril Rioli: Despite being a frustrating season Rioli did manage some fantastic games, the kid is a star no doubt however injury restricted him greatly in the pre-season and I doubt he ever recaptured that fitness base for the rest of the year, that being said it scares me how good this kid could be given a good preseason and given the right role in a good team. Here hoping :thumbsu:

Jarryd Roughead: took a lot of criticism during the season for his 2nd effort's and poor kicking for goal however he still managed 45 + goals which is nothing to sneeze at. I feel he looked a bit frustrated this year as opposed to other years, I'm really not sure what's going on with that. Perhaps it was just me however I would be frustrated as well considering his supply. It's just a matter of our ball movement being tip top and we could have a beast on our hands kicking 100+ goals with ease.

Shane Savage: No games in 2010 but apparently is highly rated and expectation is he will see some serious games in the next couple of years.

Ryan Shoenmakers: Big expectation on Shoey however he just couldn't hold down a regular position in 2010 although he managed 10 + games which was admirable. A lot of question about his disposal being raised however evidently he will be given time to prove himself. Question marks remain whether he can play forward but I'm not convinced this would be his best position although it looks as though Stratton has become his greatest completion at this stage. Still think he could be something special

Brad Sewell: our little champion had a injury interrupted season with a collarbone injury that made it very hard for him to reach his peak fitness although when he did manage to get on the park he played relatively well and with some luck he will be cherry ripe in 2011. Love this guy :thumbsu:

Liam Sheils: played a hand full of games this season being serviceable without setting the world alight however I think the kid will develop very well in the next couple of years and with luck be a regular Senior player. Some extra bulk on his frame and a couple of pre-season we may see a very good player to come.

Ben Stratton: The surprise packet of the season holding down a regular spot in the back six and looking very comfortable for a player so young, steadily became a really balanced and composed backmen that should really not be looking so comfortable in the back six at this early in his career. Played a blinder somewhere between around 12-13 and is probably the success story of 2010 in an otherwise disappointing season.

Matt Suckling: a lot to like about the young man in his first year in the Seniors although he managed only 5 games most people that seen him play liked what they saw hopefully in their next couple of season we will be looking at a regular starter for the hawks.

Simon Taylor: Much maligned ruckmen who attracts critics from a lot of hawthorn supporters which at times I feel is a bit unfair. He does give away silly frees and at imes he is frustrating however on his day he has delivered some lovely tap work for mids and his ruck work on the boundary throw-in's has been impressive. If he can cut out the silly frees and be more prominent around the ground he could be a truly great player although with renouf and skipper having some very good season's I'm concerned that he could very well be on the outer.

Travis Tuck: Has had a tough 2010 with an obvious drug problem and no games in 2010. He's only 20 so that part is on his side however his sometimes sloppy disposal has brought him harsh criticism at times, with some more work with his skills I think he can be a handy player despite some hawks supporters calling for his head. Really hope the hawks give him plenty of support and makes a fist of it next year.

Brendan Whitecross: Some very serviceable games in 2009 and 2010 and I I feel he is almost there in regard to a senior spot he just needs to put his head down and get a good pre-season in for 2011 really hope he gets his chance because I have seen some splashes of a good player. 2011 may very well be his season.

Jordan Williams: Another year or two will give this kid more bulk and get his body used to the rigors of AFL, played in the reserves mostly this year where he done quite well I thought. Hopefully he can keep up the development and turn into a good little mid.

Clinton Young: I was very stressed about this great little runner this year, I was hoping desperately for him to get through the season unscathed. He had a few injury concerns during the season and in the pre-season and I cant be sure he was playing fully fit but thank god he got through without a major injury concern. I feel he is so very important to our GF aspirations, his 08 form was a pleasure to watch and if he along with chance bateman can regain there running and carrying ability my god we can get rid of the terrible game style we were forced to adopt without our ball carriers.

I apologise for the spelling and gramatical mistakes and please take in mind this is only my personal opinion, Feel free to correct me or offer your own take on things however lets keep it positive we have enough knockers without saying things such as "So in so is crap".

Like I said we have enough people running us down without bad mouthing our own team.

I think we have a good team we just need to tweak our game plan a bit and get an uninterupted pre-season under our belts I would love to see some of the younger players put pressure on the starting 22.

This being said Clarkson would be concerned for his job should we finish outside the top 4.

Not sure what I like more, the in-depth list assessment or the signature on Thorgils post saluting the great man.....

Very good read and most are pretty mich on the mark for mine. Well done.:thumbsu:

Optimism is to be admired but really... "Taylor could be a truly great player..."??? Which Taylor is this?

Also it is MATT Suckling and I know very few people who liked what they saw. He is a one-trick pony.

You had me thinking we were certainties to win the flag for the next three to five years. I hope you are right but....let's be realistic. Our list is capable but not perfect.

Anyway, thanks for having a go and taking the time to post.:thumbsu:
That would have taken a lot of time so good on you. I do not mean to bag you I just think you need to blend your rave reviews with some constructive criticism where it is due.

I agree that Taylor was pushing it a bit but the broken leg didn't help his cause and being 28 with Renouf developing It's unlikely he will return without some major improvement. A lot of people have said if he hasn't improved his game in the key areas at this stage of his career then they are there to stay. Our lack of premium rucks may see him play another season.

I thought this was Sucklings first season however it seems he spent 3 years on the rookie list before earning his spot as a senior player I wasnt aware of this and the fact that he is 22 might go against him. I still think he played some good footy early but dropped away with a couple of shockers in his 3rd or 4th game.

Do you see him having much of future at the Hawks Books ? and thanks for the input perhaps I was a little optimstic :)

It's great to read some Optimism in this Board. Really liked some of the analysis there...

Agree on many... some probably not... but hey... everyone has their views

good work

Luke Breust: Apparently had a solid season in the VFL without blowing the competion away. Has shown some skill and may have done enough to remain on the rookie list, 19 years of age with the next year very important for him.

Michael Johnston: Wasnt able to break in the Senior Box Hill side and at 19 he may be touch and go to see and another season on the rookie list.

Jarrod Kayler-Thomson: The mature age rookie played just 3 games his first season although many thought he would play more. The 25 year old's Foot skills come highly rated. Jarrod had 26 possessions in one good game and kicking 1.2

Riley Milne: Played mostly for Box Hill this season with next year very important for him. 20 years old.

Garry Moss: Managed 4 games this season and at 22 years of age it's a line ball if he has done enough to keep his spot.

Carl Peterson: One of the shinning lights from a season that left us dissapointed. Had some brillant efforts and was almost a regular fixture this year even after he was on a modiefied program and had a limited pre-season. I wonder what he could do with a good pre-season?

Will Sierakowski: Did not manage any games in 2010 and did not have the desired impact in the VFL, another close call on this young man of 20 years of age looms.

Wayde Skipper: After being thrown a lifeline with his AFL career seamingly over I thought his comeback effort after a torn hammy was wonderful, once again a player that recieved little conditioning in the preseason due to injury came out and made a good fist of it. IMO has done enough at the very least to remain on the rookie list however he stands a good chance of being elevated.

Cameron Stokes: After playing only one game in 2010 his career looks at the crossroads. Of his one game this year in the seniors he managed only 3 handballs for the game. The Darwin boy looks in real trouble.

To be honest really hard to be optimistic about our list, especially the bottom half of it. I just prefer the realistic approach I suppose.

I don't agree with several of your assessments but I'll pay your optimism and hope you're right. :thumbsu:

Why is it hard to be optimistic about the list? I admit there are holes, ie. a mature KPD but you have to remember that all clubs delist players at the end of the year. Not every player makes it.

I think after a cull of the bottom 3 or 4 players on the list and drafting more promising prospects the list is very strong.

Cheers mate. Nothing wrong with optimism, I just prefer a balanced approach.

As for Suckling's future - if I was in charge I would trade / delist him. However, the club knows more than I do. He is a good kick and they may plan for him to take over the role of Guerra or Ladson. He is younger than them so there is hope, but his body has a bad history of fragility.

Taylor - back-up ruckman AT BEST. Personally I would rate Renouf, Skipper and Lowden ahead of him, plus Bailey even half fit would be a better option.
