Strategy List build: Draft, trade 2024-

I made a list of info I could find on the players contracts. Will be interesting to see the list cuts

expiring end of 2024 -

Fowler
Sansonetti
Livingstone
Barnett
Sheridan (Inactive)
Blair
Brazalle
Morris

Contracts until end of 2025

Howarth
Hyde
Karlson
Morris Dalton
Campbell
Taylor
Porter
Lee
Frederick

Then last years draftees, I assume are on 1 year contracts. (Cronin, Clark, Schutte) The multiple year contracts for draftees I think starts this off season

Wonder if anyone contracted may get a trade elsewhere if they want success, given where we are at.

This years list you would think would be in trouble.

But can't replace all of them via a single draft (and we really don't have a lot of capital to trade).
I suspect the ones that we lose will be directly tied to how many picks we want to take.

Of that list only Barnett (tall) and Blair (young) would be on my 'keep' list.
Barnett has at times shown some very sticky hands and Blair has wheels. So would be ok with keeping her.

The rest are all struggling to get a game or at the end of their careers.
Sheridan won't be back.

Got to start somewhere and i'd like us to try and get some more picks in if we can.
But not much in the way resources that would be attractive to other clubs IMO.

I agree with those players as well.
Reckon Sheridan also won't be back. After spending a year with her family and friends, I think it'll be hard for her to come back here and away from them again, and a year out of footy especially in AFLW would be even tougher to get back into.

I've felt that given they have played very little games that
Brazalle, Morris,Fowler, Sansonetti would be in trouble.

Do we have someone that can replace Livingstone? Can't think of anyone that might be a stopper. Cronin is more of an interceptor I think.

Don't think AFLW needs a 'stopper'.
I actually haven't minded the look of Ivy, albeit I know she's only "just". But if went in with her as our FB next year, it wouldn't be a huge downgrade on Livingstone (if at all).

I think it depends on what we decide to do with Ruby, Jordy & Butler.
They've been thrown everywhere this year and Butler has played exclusively fwd.

If Ruby plays mid, then i'd be using Cronin, Ivy & Allen/Butler down back.
If they don't want to play Ruby as the mid, then i'd play her and Cronin as the 2.

Defense isn't the problem.....at this stage i wouldn't care if we played Campbell & Porter as our defensive talls if it meant we could actually score !!

Our forward line is definitely an issue. Always has been. We need proper key forwards who can kick goals. For as much as they say that Barnett and Fowler are forwards. they don't kick goals all that often
Think we also need some pacey, crumber small forwards who can roam a pack and avid goal kickers.

As you know, this is going to take multiple years.
I'm ok with the small fwds we have.
Porter has been lively, Campbell is bringing the heat.
EJ can't get a decent run at it (this year and last), but we know she can be classy.
IMO they are not an immediate "fix now" issue.

The thing we are severely lacking is quality footskills.
The connection part can come from training (i.e. fwds actually leading and knowing where to go and when etc), but we are really lacking in footskills ahead of, and around, the ball (amongst our 300 other problems!).

So if i'm prioritizing our needs, i'm going with size (KP/Ruck) and then closely followed by elite kicking.

From what the legend P4L posted....Centra absolutely gives kicking (some of those highlights were awesome) and Havana the KP at the pointy end of the draft.

Pick one who you think has the best character and work ethic and we won't go wrong.

Then simply go with the best KP/Ruck and footskills available with the other picks.
Knowing we'll get a contest winner via FS (assuming nomination).

Yes it was huge, but for a different reason.

In an open market, she nets us multiple top 10 picks, or a super high pick and a mid range pick.
Instead we got massive unders and couldn't use losing her as a way to re-set and bring in multiple young talent.

So whilst she was a loss on field, it was what we got back that was the disappointing part.

The entire AFL expansion process around losing players has been a debacle from day 1 and despite having 3 goes at it, they still couldn't work it out by the end.

Looking at the Rookie Me power rankings it seems we’ll likely get 2x picks in before a bid comes for Violet (ranked 28th). 3x top 30 additions from this draft would be a very good haul.

That would be a good draft. Last year was prob our best since early years, as we had otherwise traded our picks.
I wouldn't even trade for anyone in the off season. Take the picks to the draft. Young talent is what we need

Ash Centra is a better kick than most of the mens team
Absolutely. The Vic Country talent manager (who does both) said she's the best kick from the program girls or boys. The boys included the likes of Finn O'Sullivan (top five, potential number one pick). It's like nothing that's come before in the women's game. There's a lot better kicks now, but she's on another level entirely.

Was going to be doing an update soon too. Violet came back from spending time at the club and was reportedly happy with the response. Definitely seems like we'll pick her up (pitchforks at the ready if we don't). I'd say a bid in the 30s or 40s is about where it will come, as clubs can tend to just leave them for a while even more so than the men's (granted off limited data).

And from what Ive read about her, seems like she'll fit in our side nicely. Probably starts on the wing. Has the pressure that we like to base our game on. And tough natured.
Does she have pace?

btw, whats happened with Leni Lockyer? She played in the U16 champs, played some oakleigh til April/May but didn't seem to play again? School footy?

Patterson has some nice gradually speed. So she's quick, just not explosive (didn't test great, but she's far better than her results). One of the nicest kids to come across, the type that thanks you for literally everything, super polite.

Lockyer was an U16 in the strongest side in the league, she was never going to get many chances. Their best prospect for 08 is Bailee Martin, and they've got a couple of others ahead of her too. She's a nice prospect, I wouldn't have her top-end or anything, probably mid-to-later draft at this stage, but next year will be key. Oakleigh will lose Tallariti and Brewer who play her preferred running half-back role so I expect she'll get her chance in there as Thorn (bottom-ager) should progress into the midfield.

She’s been a warrior and a great servant but probably the right time to hang up the boots.
Yeah, I thought it might happen last year, but glad she was able to give it one more year and went out her own way.

It’s a better finish then her being delisted last year
You think they would have delisted her? I'm not sure. But either way, at least she gets to go out her way
Our defence will look quite different next year.
