Howe has been a depth player his entire career. Whether he would be playing on the wing in 2022 or across half back, he’s behind most players competing for those spots. Add to that the return of Gunston, Sicily and Impey only further pushes him behind.
If another team came forward during the trade period and offered their second round pick for him, take it and run.
It was reported in one of the trading reports about a month a go (I think AFL site) he was expected to re-sign.Do we know if Howe wants to stay?
Has he been offered a deal?Do we know if Howe wants to stay?
Hope he does tooHope he stays. 7th in the B&F is very commendable.
They have no list spots even if they would do it.Thomas Murphy and Schoey are two examples of players the club stuck with through thick and thin.
A lot will come down to our salary cap, minimum payments, who is available and what Ollie, Howe and O’Brien’s management think they are worth.
All 3 are not going to hurt us by letting them go. They may turn into handy players for a few years for another side which is fine and good luck to them if that’s what occurs.
I am sure as a club we know where they sit financially and in length of contracts.
In regards to what they are worth on the open market as in trade value the answer for me is not much.
Does a package of O’Brien and Howe plus our pick 5 get us pick 3 from the Suns? That’s what I would be looking at if we have our eyes set on Callaghan as an example.
The game where he did his knee against the Eagles he was killing it in defense. Gave Darling a bath, even washed behind his ears.Schoey is a different beast. He was never cut out to be a defender and he was actually a very capable forward. Unfortunately for him we killed any semblance of confidence and continuity as a forward by persisting playing him down back where he was a whipping boy and target of our own supporters. I think if we hadn't have been so determined to make him into what he clearly wasn't before he did his ACL he may have developed into a very good key forward for us and turned in many performances similar to the 2015 grand final.
He’d towelled up Hawkins just before that too. He seemed to have finally got the body/mindset to be our big defender down back. The game where he did his knee against the Eagles he was killing it in defense. Gave Darling a bath, even washed behind his ears.
The life of a utility is never easy.
I don’t mind the idea of holding onto Timmy…
Reckon would look alright ok Jeka’s back!Time someone else a chance to wear the famous Hawthorn No. 23.
Howe is in his prime years, had a career season and was a consistent player all season. He has previously had interrupted seasons due to injury or suspensions and 2021 was the most games in a season he has ever put together and he went about it pretty bloody well. He's no longer a depth player and was very much best 22 this year. With Cousins gone our midfield depth is one person down. I am sure we will pick up some additional midfielders in the draft but we are going to need experienced heads there as well.
It would want to be a very good second round pick to make me want to consider trading Howe, as it stands I think he's more valuable to our list than people give him credit for.
We've got 3x picks within 25, then not until 56 - which will be able 60 odd by that stage.Since T.Mitchell has said he wants to stay, and no other solid information that we're trading out Wingard, Gunston or O'Meara.....we've only for 4 open list spots.
Something has to give. TOB or Howe might be moved on, or we're going to have to cut some of the uncontracted players like Maginness and Saunders.

What does your next 22 look like if/when all of Sicily, Day, Impey, CJ, Moore, Gunston and Breust return to the side?
No doubt he's proven that he can be a solid senior player, but regardless I imagine Howe won't be in it.
The question is will he want to continue on as a player that sits outside our best team again?
Potentially, but also potential to bring guys in which takes further spots...We've got 3x picks within 25, then not until 56 - which will be able 60 odd by that stage.
I'd not be rushing to force guys out to make way for Pick 60. Even 1 more spot (Ollie, maybe) would give us plenty of room.
Not doubting this info one bit but it's the complete opposite of what Sam Edmunds said.

Yeah, I'd assume we'll look to bring in at least 1 role player via cheap trade & we'll possibly lose one the same way.Potentially, but also potential to bring guys in which takes further spots...
Reckon this draft might have a few decent late picks and gems
I can't wait for triple premiership player Dale Hale to return to the yellow and brown coaching ranks <3
