I would LOVE for that to happen again - just to really give teams who put stupid trade prices on their players to think again. Been a long time since the Ball PSD decision and we are long overdue.
Seem to remember back in the day Port made a stance with Nick Stevens who wanted to land at Collingwood and was forced to the PSD and landed at Carlton. Might have been a required player situation and not anything to do with trade pricing but all the same I don't mind clubs having some control over both values of players or wanting to keep their assets.
Stand to be corrected.

Matches my drunken memory

If I'm adelaide, i'm front-ending the deal and walking him to PSD

I am happy to be corrected but I am pretty sure a team simply needs to match the total dollars of the set contract and therefore front-ending doesn't exclude a team who simply can't pay that salary for the first year.

Having said that, they'd only need to navigate North given Collingwood and GC have salary/list spot issues respectively. North would probably be able to cope with a front-ended deal even if they did have to account for that you'd think.

Now that CCJ has been traded to north makes it more difficult for the crows to get Dawson in the PSD

we've talked a big game and have not done anything yet, i guess we are losing in that we have yet to score a draft pick or player, but we did off load TOB, so thats a small victory and if we offload Cegs thats another small victory....

I mean.. have we really talked a big game?

I get Davo's frustration. I think we'll all be a be annoyed if we can't improve our draft hand beyond what it currently is.

We need to wait until the trade period concludes before we jump up and down, though.
If it doesn’t happen this year, we’ll be back next year at the same place during trade period, and hopefully teams will have some more $$ to deal with.
It’s a long term project. Selling for cents on the $$ is not going to help us.

But I’ll bet interest will come late. So far Port, Brissie, Dogs, haven’t improved, and they need to to catch the Dees unless they’re only looking long term.
Tigers need to choose between starting the rebuild now or reinvesting in another tilt. Freo may have cash to burn.
Wouldn’t rule out GWS trying for Gunston or Bruest (biggest issue would be convincing the player) or the Bombers coming for Gunston late.

Salary dumps (for GWS to afford Lobb, or GCS) would still be an option too.

last night I read the AFL were still deciding, but the article I read in the Hun at lunch said unlikely to get anything?
We got nothing, yesterday.

Was that official? I read a journo say it, but nothing on the AFL site, as far as I can see...

EDIT: It probably would have listed it there if there was anyhting, so I guess it's donuts...

Yep, it's official.

What the heck is going on? All players above 26 are on the trade table, Sam mitchell calling to make trades?
Is this legit or fake news?
Didn’t think our club was this desperate

It's a firesale everything must go, including the Hawka costume :(

Bonus points if we "accidentally" trade out Jeff too :p

Our once great club is a rabble at the moment. Symptomatic of everything that has happened since Jeff knifed Clarko, the best coach of the last 50 years. Family club my arse. It’s embarrassing.
Your kidding yourself. Stop reading the media headlines you idiot. Hawks just live rent free in the football industry’s heads. We literally said we will listen to offers on our older players/guns. Isn’t this exactly what you should do during week? I’m for trading a player for a first round pick but if it doesn’t eventuate so what? We still showed great signs at end of last year with our best players not even on the park and will still go to the draft with 3 great picks. The biggest key to a rebuild is not how many picks you have it’s about nailing them when u get the chance. With Day and DGB we have done that. You can add rookies CJ and Bramble into that elite category for mine. Those 4 can easily be four years of top 5 draft picks. We’re on our way. If your freaking out about a Sam Edmund dart throw tweet etc get your head checked

With any change, comes uncertainty. Our midfield has not worked as it is for years, time to back Sams roll of the dice and welcome more youth.

If Omeara goes to port, we should aim for there first round pick and Ladhams.

If you're buying, I'm having a garage sale this week.

TOB would be on peanuts. Doesn't deserve any compo unless you can dish out a 6th rounder or something as compo ?

His contract was heavily front ended
Exactly.

He was saying 'I wonder if we're giving Howe a big one year contract to up his free agency compo like Melbourne did with Frawley' but that's not what Melbourne did.

Also back then you got a compo pick after your pick, based on some kind of criteria, so they had pick 2 already and got pick 3 for Frawley(Brayshaw) but the AFL changed it the very next year, and these days the compo is based on what the buying club is paying anyway.

Because the Demons front loaded his contract so when he reached free agency he wasn’t in their top 25%. Big mistake.
Well it wasn't a mistake really as they got pick 3 (Brayshaw).

That's how it worked back then.

The point anyway was that Melbourne most assuredly didn't backload Frawley to get better compo.
