Lobb spoil on Cox

Lobb’s eyes are on the ball 100% of the time. He’s a fraction late but he spoils like this most of the time.

There was no wind up, he extended his arm for a spoil like he would every other time.

Careless, medium, high.
2 weeks down to 1.

Wasn't intentional, eyes are on the ball but like last week's incident, they expect players to not hit contests flat out if there is a chance someone could get injured. Drew blood and Cox had to go from the ground so I'm going with medium and it's indisputable high contact.

People have been suspended for botched spoils, Lobb wasn't egregiously late but he drew blood and Cox had to be sent off. I think he maybe gets a week suspension

He won't get 3 weeks, the MRO would have to grade his hit as severe impact for that to happen, which won't.

I think he'll miss a week with Careless, High Contact, Medium Impact.

I then expect us to go to the tribunal and for the tribunal to (hopefully this week) see common sense.

That would seem most likely, but I can't see the Tribunal over-turning it on appeal. It was accidental, almost incidental, but that doesn't seem to matter any more.

as we all know now after the AFL helpfully clarified it last week, the players have a duty of care not to attempt to contest the ball if they know they're not going to get it first. so it doesn't matter if it was incidental.

Lobb doesn't need to be lambasted for the incident, and you can chalk it up to accidental, but should it not be principle that you get a week for something of this nature?

I don't expect there to suddenly be a loophole where players will now begin similar acts because that is just silly, but if it can happen once what would stop this from happening again? On a key player, to remove them from the game (hypothetically)

I couldn’t give a shit about suspension…

If you spoil punch someone in the head why isn’t it a 50m penalty?

If there is a minute to go, and you want to slow it up, why not pretend punch them in the head? If it’s no 50 and no suspension, why not do it?

PS we had a player miss a grand final for this

I think it was because he punched Cox in the face before he took the mark so all they can pay is a free

Lobb hit the ball first, then slipped to his head in movement.

I think this is different to a few years ago where Toby Greene punches Caleb Daniel in the face with a hook that was never going to contest the ball.

In principle I agree though.
