if i had to guess it was horse and swans initially had the succession plan year would only start in 2026 with him to leave after
but they decided to bring it forward a year last minute and he has decided to then just leave a year early instead of wait til end of next year

Gut feel and this is purely opinion. I feel Cox was almost offered the WCE job, and has relayed that back to Sydney, whist he was happy to stay as assistant for a year or two, that was going to be the upper limit. It's just a gut feel but it may have something to do with it

Hinkley has now outlasted everyone apart from Chris Scott.

He's lost 4 GFs in a row including 3 disgraceful efforts, selected an injured key forward in the last 2 of those, correct call imo

The bigger problem was not selecting another inside mid when we literally had Adams peeling oranges, let alone Sheldrick. That's where we lost it the forwards are whatever but we got pantsed in the middle, not saying the forwards were much better

Maybe Sydney could get Josh Carr just to twist the knife even further

Cox will be announced as the coach this week, but purely to annoy Port fans do it lol

Reminds me of the Mitchell/Clarko situation a bit. When Sam chose not to interview for the Collingwood job, things moved quickly.

I'm fine with having McQualter, don't get me wrong. But it would've been interesting if this had happened two months ago when we were still looking for a coach.

I think Longmire may want a bit of a break.

Would be pretty tough after last years loss.

Personally I don't love this, really rate Longmire and he can get us to that final day. Cox has some big shoes to fill.

Agreed. If he announced he was interested in coaching again for the 2027 season there would be a lot of suiters. He doesn't need to rush.

For the stat tragics, would this be the first time in history that a coach that has won the minor premiership quits the same year?
Not unprecedented, but obviously not a common occurrence.
  • South Melbourne (1909) = Charlie Ricketts
  • South Melbourne (1912) = Charlie Ricketts
  • Essendon (1924) = Syd Barker Sr.
  • Geelong (1931) = Charlie Clymo
  • Richmond (1933) = Billy Schmidt
  • South Melbourne (1936) = Jack Bisset
  • Hawthorn (1963) = John Kennedy Sr.
  • Carlton (1979) = Alex Jesaulenko
  • Hawthorn (1988) = Alan Joyce
  • Collingwood (2011) = Mick Malthouse
  • Sydney (2024) = John Longmire

Has an eerily similar feel to that good comparison

lol

come on mate.

We all know how this goes.

Think he was told the handover was end of this year regardless, but he looks like a coach that needs a break. you guys could do worse getting him after this year
