Not really the same thing, we are evaluating Collingwood trading in a new player. Whether or not Ball is a good trade depends on a number of things, such as form or injury. Both are quite relevant in Ball's case since he has had trouble with both recently.

I said I wasn't wishing injury on anyone but was just throwing up a scenario where Ball suffered a serious injury early on at Collingwood. That would then make a mockery of everyone saying that Ball was a bargain or a win for Collingwood.

If Lovett hadn't got in trouble in his time at St Kilda and was tearing it up at pre-season training would everyone be saying that St Kilda and Lyon were idiots for recruiting him. I doubt it.

Riewoldt was defending his club, which all captains do. Malthouse was defending his player in classic Malthouse style that gets them playing for him. He has always had sides that would do anything for him.

It's like saying if the entire St Kilda list are killed in a plane crash that St Kilda were idiots for not trading the entire list.
