A seriously talented player, was amazing last night.

I liked it how on the wing (away from the majority of crowd) Embley was playing him tight at a stoppage, bumping him etc and Shuey returned the favour ten fold, was like what the **** are you doing im my space, you can just tell he knows he is good, has a bit of a strut.

In 2007 I was disappointed along with many others that we missed Cotchin.
The Eagles were desperate to replace the class of Judd and Cousins and were hunting a top 2 pick but the Blues wouldn't play.

Picked up Masten at 3...great choice.

And then in 2008, at pick 18, we nab who I'm beginning to consider a Cotchin clone.

Strong in the contest, Dual sided, Strong Engine, Explosive over the first 5, Tough, drags teammates into the game etc...

This kid working with Swift, Masten and Naita will form the comps premier midfield very soon.

Too hopeful...?

Why did Shuey fall to 18?

To be fair, it was a super draft but IIRC he wasn't rated that highly for his disposal but more for his work ethic. All it took was a couple of half reserve games and the coaching staff were ready to play him ASAP but unfortunately his season was wrecked with injuries.

Koby Stevens is another one who the coaching staff rate pretty highly and wouldn't be surprised to see him play this season. Stevens/Swift/Shuey is going to be an exciting combination for us.

that reason being that melbourne were a lot more likely to take shuey thans swift with the pick inbetween

Still have not seen any proof of this. Eagles stick by a very strict code when drafting (Best available). I see no reason to change it.

So In Theory, WCE were willing to risk loosing the better player on circumstantial information? Information that could have been circulated deliberately. Are you gambling man?

Yeah they picked Shuey before Swift to be safe with it, I remember the Eagles scouts being quite surprised that Swift got picked that late they thought it was a bargain which it clearly is.

Shuey was a Melbourne supporter. Westcoast where willing to take Shuey ahead Swift so we can assume that Melbourne would have done the same. They where conservative and went for Strauss over Swift because of his background, we know they overlooked him because of he was a West Australian with serious knee problems. Pretty logical turn of events.

We assume that Melbourne rated Shuey ahead of Strauss but did not want to take the risk of Swift.

Natinui Swift Shuey Masten ... Dynamic much?

We've already been blessed with the best dynamic center circle combo in AFL history with Cox Judd Cousins Kerr, our next one is developing.
