He’s very cleanWell done Haggis. A good one here. Been hoping he’d get a game for ages.
Not sure what he becomes, but what’s clear is that if he makes it, it’ll be on the back of attributes that are very hard to find. Spacial awareness, composure, smarts, poise, decision making (in someone with at least reasonable skills and athleticism to compliment that).
Which is what you want. Having ‘elite talent’ in roles where you can find blokes in the state leagues or at other clubs who have 80-90% of the same generic traits at a slightly lower level sucks. You want the kind of players who are the ‘reference points’ when people compare standout attributes in draftees to AFL players. As good a players as he is, nobody says says ‘he plays like Rory Laird/Daniel Talia/Rory Sloane/Scott Thomson/Ben Rutten/Tyson Edwards’ as if it’s a mark of clear talent and influence. They do say ‘he plays like Andrew McLeod/Patrick Dangerfield/Mark Ricciuto/Eddie Betts’ as a mark of talent.
And we’ve historically been heavy on those vanilla, generic players. With Dawson, Rankine and hopefully Rachele & TT we’re gradually moving away from that, and reckon Nank looks like another who can join the club.
He’s very clean
The Sturt game in slop at Adelaide oval last year under lights where we got pumped he didn’t fumble a ball in the wet
That and some of his agility today were standouts on debut
Also puts his head in the whole a bit more than Cook who I also the light was promising today

And even if they’re not top of the list players, you’d much prefer them to be mid tier players with points of difference than vanilla types. Porplyzia or Pedlar or Knights or Brodie Smith instead of Doughty or Lyons or Berry or Luke Brown.

It would require flexibility to try him on the wing. So will be 2027 before that happensDraft profile has him as a half-forward/wing with the potential to develop into a tall mid.
His versatility long term is exciting.
Try Jones in the middle, Nank or Hinge on the wing with Cook.Joins a pretty good crop of running half-back/wing types that we have alongside Milera, Hinge and Smith. Makes me wonder if we actually need Redman. Obviously we could play a similar setup to today with Redman in place of Smith, but prior to losing Smith there's not an obvious way to fit them all in for me, especially not if you also consider roles for Jones and (at a stretch) Cook. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Overall a good debut, first half was excellent.

Moore, Burton, other McGovern, Bruce (albeit out of absolute necessity) tooCould do worse than exclusively draft forwards after the first 25 picks.
How many good forwards started their career elsewhere? Naughton? Greene? That’s about it. Feels like the comp started as forwards. Rioli, Houston, Sicily, Petracca, Butters, Rioli, De Goey, Sheezel, Bolton, Dusty, Dale, McGovern, May, Hardwick, Liam Jones, Impey, Milera, Macpherson, Himmelberg, Coleman, Howe, Blakey, Battle, Tarrant, McCartin. List goes on.
It’s the hardest position to excel in, and accordingly the easiest to slip in a draft due to low exposed form. So many forwards go late, move up the field, and prosper.
Fingers crossed Nank is another to join that club. The attributes that made coaches play him ahead of the ball bode even better to being behind or around it. Saw enough today to think he could make for a very handy midfielder too. Good size, too.
Don’t think it should affect Redman. Feel like Redman could be a bloody good midfielder too. Wouldn’t be surprised if we tried that - powerful/aggressive. Great kick, good speed.
This is a ridiculous take!!!Should have had 20 games under his belt. Sick of Nicks not blooding players that are clearly ready.
Imagine our backline lookinga bit like this next yearWill the penny ever drop for Nicks and the MC? We keep players like this back whilst continuing to gift games to yesterday's players so they can hit milestone games.
Yesterday's players aren't delivering any more, time to jetison them and be bold with youth.
I saw a young team yesterday, not really sure what you are talking about. Are you referring to the midfield? Will the penny ever drop for Nicks and the MC? We keep players like this back whilst continuing to gift games to yesterday's players so they can hit milestone games.
