I'm not convinced he is - not unless he's changed his usual style a lot.

Like I said he reminds me more of Big Cox. Wouldn't be surprised if his first post coincided with one of that tool's well deserved red cards.

Whats clear is that he is someones troll alt. Man I wish the mods would just ban the lot of them, or short of that make all aliases public.

If you're kicking 60m on your "opposite" then I'd say that it's not really your opposite. Both sides are just equal. Superior to most footballers, having someone smart teach them early in their playing days to kick with both feet.

See the top European football academies.. all kids being taught to use both sides, and not being "passed" if they can't peform in a test that shows they can do it..so they are encouraged to practice in their own time.

Go to most junior footy clubs and you will see kids being taught how to hold in their vomit after yet another set of suicides or indian file.

It's better these days, but ambidexterity of players like Shuey should be the rule rather than exception.

Players like Ben Johnson make me sick...wont even attempt a kick on his right foot, who scouts these players?

You could also say, footballers "should" not have pea hearts, "should" be able to run sub 53sec 400m's and "should" be good blokes..

reality is, even with your "European" relation, if you watch any soccer player, they will kick with the same leg in penalty shots every time. It doesn't matter how good you become with both feet, you will still have a "natural" and "opposite". Fact.

Good points.

I agree.

If he can stay on the park, it wouldnt surprise me to see him a Joel Selwood like first season. Has the body to make a big impact straight up

Infact heres a question

Players who can drop punt the ball 60m on the opposite foot. Name them....
Ziebell and Yarran are great with both feet.

Even Walker has won the ball in the middle on Swallow (NAB Cup game at the Gabba in 07) and hit Fev at CHF on his wrong foot with a raking kick.

Yarran has no penetration in his kick, how on earth could he kick 60m on his preferred foot let alone his non-preferred foot?

uhmma gonna have to take your word on that. Every time I've seen Yarran kick, beyond running into an open goal he's completely ****ed it up
Yeah you just will, I guess. - His kicking has been sketchy more often than not on the big stage... However, he is a truly ambidexterous player. Has no problem from the set shot (on the training track) from outside the arc using either foot.

From the games i have seen of yarran - his kicking has been fairly ordinary.

However from everything i read - his kicking is supposedly his strength. we'll see how it pans out i guess.

I know from the quayle article - both NicNat and walters both made mentioed of yarran's skills.

Shuey is a good kick but he is far from 'AFL elite' in any way. I don't think he is close to the likes of Hodge, Rich, Dal Santo, Hurn in terms of overall kicking ability - I think he is a very smart kick and has the ability to hit most targets, much the way Murphy & Selwood can - wouldn't rate either as elite kicks but both are smart with the ball in their hands.

Best case scenario is a Mitchell level player, possible AA, very consistent and long term AFL gun clearance player who can very much damage with his kicking.

His kicking looked pretty good to me. Elite penetration, especially off his non-preferred. I think Mitchell is a strange comparison. He won't be near the ball magnet he is but will do more damage with what he gets. He is much more than a 'blunt instrument' as Colin Wisbey describes him.
