McGuane is my latest favourite player...for me he takes over where Richo left off- the kind of player that every time he goes near the ball, your heart is in your mouth and you have your fingers covering your eyes. I think he's more valuable as a forward than a defender where his ****-ups in the forward line arent quite so damaging, but his biggest problem is that the game is one second too fast for him. Can he catch up? Well, probably not, but I reckon that at some stage in the future he will have one of those out-of-the-blue games...probably kick six? then drift into obscurity and head back home to play local footy. Then I'll be sad to see him go- because he makes me realize just how fallible some of our football stars can be, as distinct to a lot of people who post on this forum.

McGuane deserves to be in the team, he's done a lot for us. Made a really good contribution last year supporting our forwards and ruck and even getting moved down back when they needed the extra support there. Very versatile player and an asset to any team. If McGuane was as bad as you all keep saying he wouldn't have made it to 8 years, clearly none of you have any involvement within the club and have no understanding of how much McGuane contributes. He bleeds yellow and black. Shame on you all.

Last 8 years were shit.

Look who number 2 is.

McGuane was our second highest average goal scorer. For people that complain about our forward line not kicking enough goals maybe you should be looking somewhere else. This is with his limited number of games and experience in our forward line as well.

Kicked 12 goals in 5 games v teams that finished below us on the ladder.

Kicked a grand total of 3 goals in 4 games v teams that finished above us on the ladder and to break it down even further 2 of those games were against eventual finalists and he failed to kick a goal in either match.

Starting to sense a pattern?

Against Carlton last year he kicked one goal had 7 possessions and gave away 5 frees. Two of them were super brain fades that allowed the ball out of our forward line at crucial times. The players around him at the time just had amazed looks on their faces you know wtf.
Helping out the back line....? Went down the back line against North Melbourne grabs Petrie around the waist and throws him out of a marking contest for a certain free and goal.
Shouldn't have been any where near him I know. But still don't give a certain kick away.
Anyway then he kicks a few against some teams that don't matter and some here prick their ears up and go on what a great last part of the year he has had and even roll out the stats
Too many brain fades for a veteran.

He's not a Veteran though. He has been playing under Hardwicks game plan for as long as every else. Except he has way more pressure on him to perform because his contract is on the line. I feel for the guy.

And again, he makes as many mistakes as every other player out there it's just that when you guys see McGuane you immediately target him with criticism and don't see any of the good things he does.

McG is a tough competitive, relatively athletic, strong guy with limited football skills - much like Jackson. He fills a hole when needed and can add value if he plays his role well. If we have better options and McG is not in the team that means we have a good array of AFL quality KPs. Very few teams have that, and so if we do we have one of the better AFL forward lines in terms of quality and depth. Until then Luke gets to fill a role and make life harder for opposition to man up on our young talls. Let him take the hits whilst the young guys learn. When they can take the hits he is depth, then moved on. Life's tough but if he gets to 100 games that is a pretty good career.

One guy in the crowd on Friday summed it up for me: 'Get off the ground McGuane'! I am really hoping we can unearth someone better.
As much as I'm pulling the piss in this thread, that's actually quite disgusting for one of our own

WON'T be a problem as I figure there will be far more teams finish below us on the ladder this year than in 2012, so he'll kick more goals!!!!

yep. its harder to kick goals against better quality opponents, its pretty normal. jack kicks less goals against the better teams too with the occasional really good game against them (as you'd expect from a coleman medalist).
