Why do people keeping bringing up Post? He is gone. This discussion is about our( posters) opinion of the worth of McGuane! Pity he is not gone. I would rather of kept post for he was only at the club for four years, however, happy he has gone. Will be far more happy when McGoof has departed. Playing him will only rob a young player of valuable experience.

I only mention Post because he was a tall and many wanted him kept on and thought he offered something. Personally I think they are completely different kettles of fish. The comparison (or should I say contrast) is that the ones going in to bat for Post reckoned he was hard done by and just needed 5 or 6 games in the 1s to get his confidence back. McGuane is just a backup tall forward and that should be bloody obvious to everyone.

Personally I find these calls about 'we will never be taken seriously while McGuane is on our list' to be way OTT. FFS guys look at it practically. He is just there in case someone gets hurt. I doubt he'll take games off kids, and if he does, well that is the football department's call and they know more about the game than we do (and must be accountable if they get it wrong).

I just find this kind of thread to bring out the argumentative types who like to call players stupid names to somehow backup their opinion that a player is shit. That kind of stuff is so juvenile and adds nothing to the debate. In fact, this kind of thread quickly descends into the usual bullshit bickering and brings the argumentative types to the fore. I'm over it.

He's just a backup tall who saved himself from being cut last year by stringing together a few servicable games last year as a forward. Yes, he is lucky to still be on the list but FFS every club has someone like that!

By the way, i'm not singling you out backwards Tigers (or is it Senor Egit?). I'm just making general comments.

Getting drafted to us must be like winning the lottery for crap footballers. Not only will you get near a decade or roughly twice the length of career at AFL Level that you'd probably get at VFL level, you'll also have your ineptness tolerated, your position defended and and even be celebrated by a large segment of the club's supporters year after year without needing to demonstrate any real football ability or one iota of improvement.

Dislike

I have this feeling McGuane plays round 1 followed by about 15-20 games after, kicks 35.35 and averages 5 tackles a game. Hanging out with push-up they bully opposition defenders and allow the classier Riewoldt and Tyrone to dominate the scoreboard. After a few games McGuane finally regains his nickname as a junior McGun!

Wake up you have been dreaming. We are talking McGuane here. Average 5 tackles?
I think you confused average with season total.

And for every 10 posts upon here 5 are light hearted and of those 5 , 1 is taken the wrong way by someone . ;)

You've been potting the guy at every chance. Light hearted or not a reply that rebuts your post is not taken the wrong way.

Lets not make excuses for him by saying he played on the big fowards at a bad time etc etc etc .

He played in a reasonable defence with no support upfield but he was never our number 1 defender, He was always the 3rd defender that wasnt exposed as Thursfield & Kel Moore were

Call a spade a spade

Jake King and Will Thursfield cracked under the pressure of that backline. One was forced to play another position and one no longer plays in the AFL. Kel Moore had a terrific couple of years and was a very good player I'll admit but I'm just saying it was not easy for any of those guys and I can see how it would be difficult for a guy who is not the most talented on our list. Having played sport all my life, i know what it is like to play in a team getting crushed. Discounting the fact that when you play in a good team the 50/50 disposal you make usually works out well because you've got good players who win the 50/50 contest, having great players around you is massive. Success breeds confidence and more success. I'm not making excuses, I'm just cutting the guy some slack.

Just read your post but the underlying theme that your putting out is that he is a good player that played in a bad team !!

He is not a good player and never will be, He is currently ranked #35-40 on our list and extremely lucky at still being on it, He doesnt deserve to be on it

No, I don't believe at any point I have said or implied that he is a good player. I have stated, he is not overly skilled/talented but is physically good and could make a good 3rd tall back/forward. If he was a good player he would be good regardless but the guys who suffer when culture/developement/success lacks are the average footy players. Luke is an average footballer who could confidently fill a role in an average/good side but has unfortunately been under the pump at a bad club over a number of years. Same could be said about Shulz/Rodan/Ottens/Tambling of years gone by.

Do we know what sort of a bloke Luke McGuane is?

Not once have I heard him speak.

Now no one's as funny at Tigerland as Tross but what sort of person Luke is?

Spending a lot of time on our board lately - looking for a new club to support just in case?

It seems there's a lot of activity on this Board.
The others seem dead ATM.

Could be that I'm finding out a lot more about Richmond's spuds and who'll add their names to the list.
Brad Helbig FWIW has the makings of a spud.

FWIW, I've not commented on the main Cotchin thread for a while because I like to see if it's hit the 3rd page of my watched threads.
I ain't gonna resuscitate it anymore.

It's like there's a massive lull every now and then and I feel I have to breathe new life into it.
Must've been like on many occasions where Cotch's lead the side in the past and have had to be the only player carrying the side for a particular game.
So basically a one man team.

A bit like us and Jobe Watson in many games so in a way that's an apt, comparable and meritorious choice from my end.
Absolutely frustrating, I know.

And then there's the ball handling.

Don't understand both teams' ability to draft spuds.

Let's not get off topic and focus on one of those spuds.

Ok - so about as good as last year.
Last year he kicked 15 goals in 9 games - give him 20 games and he kicks about 30-35.
Admittedly, he only averaged 3.5 tackles a game, so he'll have to improve that side of his game a bit.
Needs to work on his free-kick ratio - he only got 2 all season and gave away 13 - which unfortunately seems to have been about his historical standard. If he can clean up that, he can be a very valuable player.

Posting a video link of THE MISSED GOAL , in response to someone suggesting he hasn't put a foot wrong since going forward is potting McGaune .
Yea Righto .
But seen as though you wish to accuse me , I think the guy is a total spud and has very little time left upon a AFL list and when delisted will complete the trio , who where involved in the Sydney session , to be gone for the betterment of the club .
