Definitely the thoughts of most Collingwood supporters.

What genuine ready-made midfielders will be available or that we can have a crack at?

Obviously Kerr should be priority 1.

I was thinking Jed Adcock or Michael Rischitelli from Brisbane would be good gets.

keeping in mind that Didak is almost certain to be retained, can we facilitate the required trades to satisfy our needs?

Any other suggestions?

I'd be happy to see us just keep building through the draft, hopefully take the best available midfielder this year, maybe find a bargain in round 2 and 3 and go from there, add them to Pendlebury, Thomas and McCarthy in the midfield.

Develop Reid into a key defender down back with Brown, Dawes improving and Cloke up forward, young Cam developing in the ruck add the rest and we have a strong base for a serious tilt.

Sounds easy in theory to me.

Never been one for poaching.

Maybe add Cousins in the short term.

Hallelujah!

If I had to hear one more footy pundit like Gary Lyon or Robert Walls proclaim that Brown was a good fit for Collingwood, I think I'd bloody top myself. Do these so-called 'experts' have any idea about the Collingwood list? Apparently bloody not. Paying top dollar in players and draft picks while our midfield lies unaddressed would be the epitome of short-sighted thinking. Look no further than Friday night's match to see why.

We have the best-resourced recruiting dept in the AFL, and when we've given them a chance to do their thing their success rate has been good. So let's keep our draft picks and let Hine and co do their thing. Or, if we absolutely must trade, let's do it for a midfielder. Perhaps Kerr if the price is not too steep. Or perhaps Prismall would represent better value (because of his lower cost).

Thank Christ Jake Niall knows his stuff. He's just about the only person in the media who shows any knowledge of Collingwood's list.

Bloody Oath, Plus Dawes Seems just a Younger Version of Brown anyway.

We need Mids. Like Kerr,Prismall, Cousins and any descent Mids we can get our hands on

Seeing as another key back is also on our shopping list, after our search for midfielders, Mike Sheahan pointed out in the Herald Sun that we have enquired into Brown, Kerr and if accurate Ben Rutten.

What is his contractual status and is he worth pursuing to take over from Wakes/Presti?

Would the cost be too high?

If any of you are vehemently against chasing Brown -- and giving up the draft picks and players we'll have to use to get him, while our midfield problems remain unaddressed -- it might be worthwhile shooting off an email to SEN (see the right-hand sidebar for the details of particular shows) or Gerard and Dwayne's show on 3AW, cos at the moment Jake Niall seems to be the only one offering an opposing view. Alternatively, add a comment to the Mike Sheahan article that Dave links to above.

Just a thought for anyone who feels strongly about this.

We should offer Brown a 4 year deal (plus the captaincy) and no more. I have no doubt that Brown has only 3 years left in him, if lucky 4. To offer him 5 years would be stupid.

We should offer Brisbane our first pick + Ben Reid (or Rusling). If push comes to shove maybe exchange our 2nd pick for there 3rd. Thats it. If they don't accept, then thanks but no thanks.

I agree we should be going after a gun midfielder, and I would much prefer we go hard after Kerr. But there is no doubting that Brown would be a great aquisition....and if we can get him without hurting our midfield, Cloke at CHF and Brown at FF would no doubt make us a serious threat for next years premiership.

However, we must not hurt our list (especially our midfield) in order to get him.

That article makes too much sense for my liking!

I think we should use our first round pick on the draft itself and if we are to participate in trades, it should be for players like Prismal who I would offer a second rounder for or a third rounder and Rhyce. Obviously a cheap Cousins would be nice but that seems more and more unlikely by the day.

We have a solid structure of young KPPs in the side who take longer to develop than mids. If we can get a good young list of mids then in a few years everyone should be peaking at the same time. We have Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas and McCarthey. Add a Prismal and the best available mid this year and we should be very strong in a few years time.

Why Rhyce he has been one of our best this year and we would really miss his speed

Johnson
Lonie
Holland
Toovey

All Delist we must keep Rhyce might not be in our team in a couple of years but should be kept for depth

Do agree with the rest you say i have said on this board before we are very close to nabbing Prismall only other contender is Essendon which we would be neck and neck with atm and this is of a very good source

Walls and Lyon would be only too happy to see Collingwood waste $5 mill on Brown, losing important draft picks and a few of our young guns...
They would get thousands of column inches out bagging us for the decision for the four years to come.

The Herald Sun today thinks Kerr is heading to the Pies!

Yup. I totally agree with that article.

Our current situation requires a quality midfielder not a quality key forward.

I personally don't have big raps on Kerr myself. He has struggled at WCE since copping a hard tag without Judd and Benny and would probably suffer from the same fate at the Pies.

Ben Cousins is the solution not Brown or Kerr.

good article as usual by niall. kerr and/or prismall have to be our priorities with cousins thrown in for good measure :thumbsu:

I think the article really just echoes the sentiment of a lot of Pies supporters, at least from what I've gathered. I think anyone would love to have Brown in their team, but in all honesty I like the look of our current forward setup at the moment and that will only be strengthened once we have players like Rocca, Rusling and Reid to choose from.

Our midfield however, is a bit of a worry at times, and we need a player of the calibre of Kerr. Not only can a player like him offer us so much in the way of ball-winning, but he can also free up one another bloke who would otherwise be tagged like Swan or Pendlebury. The more midfield depth the better as far as I'm concerned.

that is the mind-set that has hampered collingwood in the past and will in the future. To gain something you have got to sacrifice a good player, not an old man or hack wholl never play afl again.

It is easy to say it then actually do it. I mean C'mon Reid is Collingwoods best forward prospect in front of Dawes, Anthony, Rusling, Macaffer, Anthony and Dick (in no particular order), and you want to go develop him into a defender. Yes Collingwood may have too many young forwards on their list and it could be an option to develop one of them as a defender. Without doubt it should be John/Jack Anthony because he is an actual defender and doesn't need as much developing as Reid would. It could also be an option for the Kerr deal to add one of those forward mentioned as a sweetener to the deal. On other notes if Collingwood were to Trade Didak to Port the only player they should target is S.Burgoyne(Sorry bout the spelling if its wrong)
Yes definitely target Cousins for the short term option whilst during the time he would play with Collingwood they would get some youngens in the draft to develop for the long term.

Brown, for obvious reasons would be an amazing addition to Collingwood, but at what expense? Same for Kerr, what would we have to give up?

The Pies need to be on the ball come trade time as we could get our hands on some midfield talent like Rischitelli, Prismall or Adcock...

We could look to trade for one of the Brisbane boys with maybe Rhyce and a late draft pick. Now I think Rhyce has been great this year, but there is no chance of him getting any better. Runs all day, very outside and can't kick.

Also we could somehow trade up on our first pick, maybe our first pick and Rhyce or Rus and get our hands on a Zeibell or Hartlett early in the draft.

He was very succinct in his appraisal of Pendlebury....

"Scott Pendlebury, while immensely promising, doesn't shape as a clearance specialist or consummate inside player"

In other words.... "Scott Pendlebury has all the talent in the world, but is soft"

Spot on with all counts of the article

Why would you think Reid is the best Foward Prospect because I can not see why. His only thing he is good at is Taking Marks on the Lead.

Where Dawes takes contested marks, get Contested Footy on the ground and Kicking is better than Reid.

I disagree with that. Pendles not might win heaps on Clearances but I have seen put his body on the line to get 50/50 Balls Those
