Current Major incident at Bondi Junction

Cauchi was reported to have been medically managed off his medication by his GP and a non-government Psychiatrist, approx. 5 years ago (in 2019).

That's way too long a time ago to claim that this triggered him relapsing into a psychosis in April 2024.

We'll have to wait for the results of the toxicology report that should be revealed (at the latest) at his Coronial Inquest, for confirmation of what drugs were in his system at the time of death, for a clearer indication of what might have triggered a psychosis in the immediate lead up to the Bondi Junction tragedy.

How many psychosis relapses (if any), and the severity and length of them, he might have had since 2019 before the April 2024 psychosis, is unclear.

For all we know, if he did have any, they might have been been very minor ones, and have been "mutism" ones, where he was possibly of no-harm to anyone, but possible himself having an accident.

We don't even know if pre-2019, how many (if any) psychosis he had relapsed into since his claimed aged 17 ones, decades ago, and what the likely causes of this might have been (including things like sleep deprivation or drug usage).

Wouldn't be surprised if there are still many unanswered questions after the Coronial Inquest, as is often the case where mental health is a factor, and there is at least a 23 year period of mental health illness, treatment (or lack of possibly to some degree), incorrect treatment or ineffective medications, medication side effects (possibly long term), or other undiagnosed illness.

'PUBLISHED: 13:30 AEST, 17 April 2024 | UPDATED: 15:42 AEST, 17 April 2024'
'Cauchi was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager and his parents said he had gone off his medication, which had triggered his psychosis.'

'Following the devastating day, NSW Premier Chris Minns announced $18 million in State government funding for the coroner’s office to “establish an independent coronial inquiry”.

At the time, Mr Minns said the money would be immediately forwarded to the coroner’s office to fund “full staff and resources” for a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the Westfield massacre.'

Some of the Inquest is being live streamed.

Possibly 2025 before the Hearing part of the Inquest gets underway.

About the inquest

The Bondi Junction Inquest will relate to the deaths of seven people during the incident that occurred at Westfield Shopping Centre, Bondi Junction on 13 April 2024.

The NSW State Coroner, Magistrate Teresa O’Sullivan, will be assisted by a team of solicitors from the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office and barristers known as Counsel Assisting (collectively, the team assisting).

The State Coroner’s role is to establish in relation to each person:

  • Who died;
  • When and where they died;
  • The cause of death; and
  • The manner of death (which means the circumstances surrounding the death).
If the State Coroner considers it necessary or desirable to do so, her Honour may also make recommendations in relation to any matter connected with the death. For example, recommendations may be made in relation to public health and safety.

I hadn't seen this posted yet, so this is a summary of the information from the Directions Hearing. The full hearing is scheduled for 28 April - 30 May next year.

I was shocked to learn that it all happened and was over so quickly. I knew it was fairly short at the time, but not just a few minutes.

These two paragraphs doesnt support the Women only narrative some would have us believe..

Dr Dwyer told the court the CCTV showed Cauchi then "proceeded to stab and attempt to stab any person he came close to".

The court heard "in less than three minutes, 16 people were stabbed and injured in what appeared to be indiscriminate attacks".

Mind you, they're only the words of a Dr and not of the highly regarded Bigfooty keyboard sleuths.

Not sure if this has been discussed in the thread because I took a break from it for a bit, but it was reported that Cauchi said "catch you" when he attacked his victims. A friend of mine from Toowoomba, similar age to Cauchi, said that when they played tag as kids that's what they'd say when they tagged someone. Not "caught you" but "catch you". We were hanging out when the details of that dropped and his whole face was shocked when he read it.

It disturbed me to think that Cauchi could simply have been playing a deranged game of tag with a knife.
