Just finished it.
I didn't see the point of dropping Cogs at the time, still didn't the see point now. He was dropped for a week, couldn't play reserves to regain form or work on his issues, they rush him back a week later, and they lose. Not a good look for Leon.
Cogs came across as a top bloke though, humble, genuine.

Other observations:
Richmond was never losing that semi. Saints never had a shot.
Dimma is a great communicator. Would be great to see speeches from his finals weeks in 2013-15, just for comparison.
Increased respect for Sloane and Nicks, very impressive.
Similar with Dew and Rowell. That 24 hour bike ride, respect.
I liked NicNat, good swagger.

That 24hr bike ride is insane. Agree with Hardwick. He sounds like a coach who is in control and on top of his game. Cameron and Simpson seemed and sounded desperate.

For me the most impressive board member was Malcolm Speed.
Peggy was just a mouthpiece, and a pretty average one.
You have legit no idea what you are talking about.😂

Please stop, not even die hard Richmond supporters have any true idea what Malcolm Speed actually does (im sure he does something), but we aint in the inner sanctum of the club to know.

Who else felt there was a lot of filler in seven episodes? Could have easily trimmed this to four episodes. I fell asleep during a few.

I shall rank each story for personal entertainment.

1. GWS & The Clusterfu** that is Captain Cogs.
Engaging and my honest highlight, loved this.

2. Carlton & Eddie Betts battle with racism.
Story was far more engaging when it revolved around his battle with racist pigs, boring when the story was about his playing career and age.

3. Richmond & off field messes.
Majority of Richmond scenes involve small talk with Peggy and Benny and they were painful. Their responses to off field incidents and the summary of the finals was brilliant.

4. Adelaide & Rory Sloane.
Sloane is a very likable guy and it was a nice little insight, was there anything intriguing, would I watch again? Nup.

5. Gold Coast & Stevie Dew
Boring. Dew is a good fella, but boring.

6. Nic Nat & West Coast.
All I learnt was Covid backwards is divoc, divoc I wasted my time with the Nic Nat snooze fest.

Way too much filler. Would've been good to have access to more than a couple of players/ coach/ staff of each club. Would've been stories within stories, particularly with the hub life that never got a run.

A few Learnings (what a putrid word by the way):

Leon Cameron is a truly awful coach.

I wouldn't put Sloane or Coniglio in charge of a stall at the Gepps Cross Trash 'n Treasure.. meek

Dew has the make-up to be a very good coach.

Richmond impressive, well run. focus on themselves.. tips hat.

You didn't like Sloane as skipper? Think he came across very well. Particularly when contrasted with Walker and you see the upgrade.

I've been working in international business for nearly 25 years, regularly deal with C suite and board members of many large multi national companies. I reckon I have some idea what I'm talking about when it comes to execs and leadership.

It was only a small snapshot, but Malcolm came across as a strong leader, while Peggy came across as bit of a cheerleader.

Agree on Sloane .... came across as the teachers pet..

The nicks scene with crouch was cringe worthy?
Who sits behind someone and literally bags them out behind their backs.

And there you go Mr. International Businessman

Any judgement on a 'small snapshot' isn't a good judgement.

I think it was the cumulative effect of cogs missing sessions early on and poor early season form. I think the giants tried to use the dropping of cogs to try get the players into gear. Didn't work, in fact it did the opposite, how can you bring him in a week later, when you state it was about form and he doesn't play in the week off. I thought Cameron started off strong, but became desperate as the year went on.

Cogs came across as Kim Hughes to me, he wants the title as captain, but he didn't show leadership to the playing group, especially when he was out of form he seemed to go into his shell and become inverted

Hardwick was composed in the gf and he has the ability to learn quickly from his failings with the team and you can see the strong United bond between Hardwick gale and Peggy and the board and the players. He didn't handle rimington well at all though with the interview.

Sloaney what an individual, a great modern leader, he sets the standards at the crows, I wasn't impressed with nicks and the crows coaching, which was really reactive at times

Dew seemed too nice at times, although he has a young list, it would be interesting if he's the same coach in 2 years time.

Also nic Nat was great, but he made a big deal as did Simpson about the O'Brien tweet, every club would say that about his weaknesses.
Just finished it.

I'm blown away by the close quarters contests and the sounds, i mean how did they record the sounds of the players talking sh*t out there...(no full house helped...but still amazing)

I bloody wish they recorded Katniss Everdeen trashtalking Tom Lynch !!!
The players in focus for the doco had mini microphones in their jumpers, there’s a very good Junktime AFL podcast interview with the producer of the show who goes through stuff like this.
