Gun kids like who sorry? Joel Perry or Jason or Cam Cloke?? I'll stick with Michael thanks:thumbsu:

exactly right, why pick up someone unknown, even though he is built as a KPP, when we can get a 3 X premiership player that gives Lee longer to develop. who do you suggest we pick up you trolling moron???? go back to the spoon;)

I say we make Mal our unofficial Hit Man and allow him to wack everyone with in site when the situation calls for it.

Tredrea?- WHACK! from Mal around the head. Bazza? Jump on him Mal and land that giant frame of yours on his head;)

Worth the punt on mal:thumbsu:

Happy to welcome Mal Michael to Essendon - 24/11/2006 3:00:00 PM

I was really pleased to hear that we were able to secure Mal Michael in the upcoming pre-season draft. I know first hand what a tough competitor he is and his experience will be of real benefit to us.

At 29-years-old he is right in the prime of his career. He is two years younger than Dustin Fletcher and we know how well Fletch has played in the past couple of seasons. He has signed a two-year deal but I would hope he would play beyond that time.

I think his arrival at the Club will help assist the development of some of our younger tall players such as Kepler Bradley and Andrew Lee. We may also draft a young key position defender and we wont have to throw any of these players to the wolves we can now develop them as we see fit.

Mal will help greatly with our structure in defence. I would imagine he would play at full back and release Dustin Fletcher to play at centre half-back or loose in defence. I would be interested to know what the fans think.

And when we make the Grand Final in 2008 (I know, wishful thinking... :D ) and so he is about to retire he can spend the first quarter knocking out several players... then we can cruise it in the last 3 quarters. (I had the same plan for Wallis in the 93 GF - He started well with Hanna but didn't need to touch anyone else..)

Speaking for the Brisbane fans I think what we are annoyed about is not really that Michael is going to another club but the fact that it seems to have been engineered in a way to ensure that the trade period was circumvented and the club would not get anything for what is still a valuable player. I would have expected someone to offer a second rounder this year for mal's services for the next few years. It just looks suspicious as hell whether it is all above board or not.

On playing him and Fletcher together you are probably going to have some concerns with the more mobile combinations around. Mal has been having a lot of trouble with the faster FF for the last few years and that is not going to get any better with age. That being said if his head is right he would be a great addition for your team and for the first half or more of the season there wasn't a better FB in the competition. Over the last 7 or 8 weeks though his head wasn't really in it and he was consistently outplayed. All in all a good pick up but I would worry about whether it might stunt the guys you want playing at FB when you return to actually contending rather than just trying to make the 8. That was the reason I think why a lot of the Brisbane people whilst sad when he retired were moving on to the next generation and their development.

Yes,it does sound fishy.Did he actually retire while still under contract?

4-5 hours later read whole thread. Frantic postings by the dozen!

you can see what's going to Happen when they Play Brisbane i can see it coming they just get stuck into him , he;s allowed to change his mind look at Timmy watson when he retired and came back for one year and won a premiership proves ya can come back if ya want too especally if your only 30
and fit enough some players retire to soon :thumbsu:

Is this the best young talent Sheedy was talking about it? Smart? Check. Cheeky? Check. In the spirit of the game? No.

I dont think anyone is suggesting its fair, but Mal wants to play and he liked what we had to offer. He wont be the first player to leave Brisbane and he wont be the last. From memory, Brisbane have a greater salary cap to retain players with...is that in the spirit of the game?? NO!

Spot on Crave.

Their jumping off Brisbane like rats on a burning ship.....the golden era ends;)

.

No we actually just released 1. Just keep on picking up old players and finish around 8-12 for the next 3 years miss out on gun kids cause that's fine with us.:thumbsu:

French, now Bryan....keep drafting those gypsies and see how far that will get you.

Unorthodox, unexpected, brilliant.

Probably is unsportsmanlike, admittedly, but no more than ridiculous salary cap concessions...

Give Sheeds a medal. :D

Ill actually predict Mitchell Clark or Merrett to jump ship in the next year or two. Merrett especially will find it hard to keep a regular spot with Bradshaw, Brown up front. They usually command the entire 50m arc and withthe gun kids they have in the centre, dont like the chances of it being delivered to HF without Voss being there any longer.

Does that now mean Spriggs and Roden have buckleys chance of getting on our list?

How much room have we got:confused:

All in all, Sheedy found a loophole and took it. I bet other coaches are now thinking why they didnt entertain that idea.

This also reflects his coaching style, no matter if the odds are against you, you go down swinging, for you might be able to swing the result in your favour from an impossible position. Swing away, Sheeds :thumbsu:

The incomparable, unequalled genius of Sheedy is something to behold;) .A brilliant move that only the mastermind himself could pull off .......and some write him off as a fruit cake:)
