Malceski early return

I can't wait to have him back. Tadhg > Mal >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mattner.

Right ... the three of them make one potentially VERY OFFENSIVE weapon.

Forget who is greater than who, the three of them combined give us something very special.

I'm yet to see Mattner's dash off the backline. To me he is just some idiot who looks like he going to fall over half the time. Once Mal comes back i'd love to see Mattner dropped.. now I know that will never happen, but hey.. a girl can dream. But in all seriousness, I don't really want him dropped.. i'm just still in my hating Mattner mood from Saturday's game.

Mattner's provided plenty of dash. And while his decision making isn't quite at the level of Malceski or Kennelly, he compensates by being more aggressive and stronger bodied than either of those two. He's a very good addition to the backline IMO, despite the odd stuff-up.

I have no idea how they'll all line-up, though, once Spida and Malceski are back in the team (fingers crossed). LRT will be back on the half-back line, which will leave 4 tall defenders (including Leo as he "plays tall") and three medium rebounders. Given that we need a smaller bloke in there too, that's one hell of a defensive flood. I think Mattner may well get moved up to a wing. I can't see them wanting to make things hard for Malceski by moving him this season to a position he's not played much.

I can't agree that Mattner has provided all that much dash off the backline. Like last weekend for example he really could have stepped up and ran it out of defence, but in the end the only person who was attempting to do it was Leo.

Completely agree. I think Mattner has been a great addition. He will really prove his worth once Malceski joins with Kennelly back into the team.

Totally agreed. We all saw how dangerous West Coast were with Judd, Kerr and Cousins all in the middle. For our game plan - with its offensive half back line as opposed to an offensive midfield - having Mal, Tiger and Mattner running together would offer similar matchup headaches for our opponents. Too often in the past a heavy tag on Tiger or Mal or sometimes both was enough to stop us dead. So I'm keenly awaiting to see that trio up in full flight as was originally intended. :thumbsu:

YOU THINK

Mattner has absolutely been a great addition. I was excited to see him get drafted. His 2006 season for Adelaide (when they were supposedly the best team in the comp) he was a stand-out. I think he lost favour with Craig, as did Schneider with Roos it seems

Imagine he wasn't around, with Malceski and Kennelly out. He's good defensively, provides run, has good efficiency and is generally a good user. He had a bad game against Geelong at Shell shock stadium. Not an issue.

Averaging 22 possessions, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 4 clangers pergame.

Didn't know much about Mattner before this season, but spoke to a couple of mates who are Adelaide supporters, and they stated that he would occassionally stuff up things but was a great tackler and ran hard at the pill. So far they seem to pretty much on the ball. Does add some value IMO.:)

I was pretty happy when we picked up Mattner during trade week, always rated him but remembered him as being quicker!
Kennelly is still the man, we just don't win very often when he isn't there.

He has a big Leo streak in him. Takes people on at all costs for better or for worse - good heart attack material. He's been great though, not sure how anyone could criticise his start to the season.
