When will WCE fans understand that their little cake tin stadium in their isolated and irrelevant city is not worthy enough to host the Grand Final? How many people does it fit? 60k? Yuck.
They’ll never realise that interstaters don’t matter in the VFL.
Them, Fremantle and Geelong already have a ridiculous advantage in the Home & Away season, the last thing we need is to give one of these sides another leg up.
I call bullshit. 9/22 games at home is a disadvantage, and will gladly watch on as we crusade until that becomes 11/22.

If it’s 2 non Victorian sides then they will be flying in if it’s in Victoria.

Do you want them to decide the week of?

Victoria & NSW doesn’t require people to go into two weeks self-isolation upon arrival. So interstate teams can fly in whenever during the week they would like & train as regularly.

That’s not currently possible in WA, SA & Tasmania. Queensland does have border restrictions— but has already said it will exempt sporting teams.

My entire point is I think the AFL should avoid having to put players into situations where they need to self isolate once the season has started because it is disruptive not only to training patterns; but also to the competition regarding how long between games.

If there’s no fans allowed in Vic but there are elsewhere then you absolutely have to move it. A GF without fans would be deplorable.

Vic clubs have supporters groups in other states so it’s not like they’d have zero fans there.

If there’s no fans anywhere, then who cares where it is, it’s purely for TV.

We get to play home games at home apparently.

Let’s not forget the 9 games straight Richmond had at the MCG last year leading into the finals and you will understand why they have the itchiest bottoms over Malthouse’s proposal. :$

They always bring up the true home ground advantage but forget the true away disadvantage which makes the home and away balanced with there neutral games they have except for travel.

9 straight MCG games??

I must have read the fixture wrong... as I don’t remember Richmond playing 9 straight games there.

Don’t like MM, but I have been pushing for this year’s GF to be played outside Victoria for months now.
Get the feeling it will never happen though cause if it did, it may very well open an can of worms that many in the AFL commission and powerful VIC based clubs wouldn’t like.

The afl will be looking to recoup as much money as possible so those “fans” will be corporates.

.... am I not allowed to have an opinion??

One that I believe is representative of a large proportion of the footy community (outside of one set of supporters who would benefit from this decision)

Anyway— I’m getting over being harassed by you over my differing opinion. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon dreaming about a Grand Final at Optus and attacking everyone who thinks differently.

hilarious that the first few responses are Richmond supporters crying because someone suggested they might remove their massive advantage

whats wrong ? deep down you know you cant win without it ??

actually dont answer that...everyone in the football world knows it !

I couldn’t care less where the Grand Final is played this year—- I just don’t want to wait two weeks between the Prelim & the Grand Final to see it.

Nor do I want any club having to go into a self-isolation period so close to finals which will impact their ability to train.

It’s not Victoria’s fault that states have closed their borders at the moment.

Ironic that it is one of their former legends suggesting it. Ouch!!

Overcoming a disadvantage doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

The sample size being is big enough to suggest it's no advantage. Along with the fact the favourites win most of the time with four interstate vs Victorian upsets over the last 20 years being Sydney over Hawthorn, Doggies over Sydney, Brisbane over Essendon, Richmond over Adelaide. The latter two being negligible considering the teams we now know were only starting a dynasty. Considering Geelong and Hawthorn won a third of the flags since then and neither are permanent MCG tenants highlights the insignificance further. Not really a surprise but odds are the best team in the competition wins the flag regards of where they reside.

So just fly everyone in after the final H&A round. There is already a 7 day break there so what’s one more little week off in the grand scheme of things? ;)

Is that you Mark McGowan?

Unless there's been confirmation that the state hard border will be removed by then (for more than Kerry Stokes); it seems like massive disruption to the competition to play one-off games out of WA.

If teams are isolating before that period they will get special exemptions like the NRL is getting.

Also remember the grand final is over 5 months away and most states outside of NSW are getting zero or close to zero new cases now... 5 months later?

No no they aren’t.

Saying having an automatic home city GF is no advantage is ridiculous.
It’s a benefit to the fans not paying airfares and accomodation.
It’s of benefit to the players not travelling and having the majority of supporters.

Will it change? No, but to say it’s no advantage is hilarious.

Interstate sides that are successful have embraced an anytime, anywhere mentality.

Tigers?

Only at the MCG.
Precious lot arent they. As this thread has shown they would happily take the enjoyment of the sport away from everyone just to suit themselves.

If an advantage doesn’t manifest in results it’s unmeasurable or at least a very insignificant variable therefore useless to talk about. It’s literally just fans whinging about having to pay for travel which has zero impact on the outcome of the game.

AFL would rather play the GF in an empty MCG, then if the crowd was allowed to attend a Grand Final in Perth or Adelaide.

Would be funny if Perth got the Grand Final and the Eagles made it, then the WA Premier decides to close its borders the week before the Grand Final.
Yep because there will be crying from Vic teams claiming unfair, though shoe on other foot is fine because "you joined our league "

You can't prove that non Vic teams were not actually better during those grand finals. Look at previous results between the teams especially when played a different venue
