Malthouse hits back at Cloke

Mark Williams was right when he said, ominously, he knows what it's like to lose finals football at Collingwood - doesn't sound like the happiest place.
 
Well I'm not Collingwood's biggest fan and Cloke's Dad annoys me, but what the **** is Malthouse talking about? HE was the one who played Cloke at CHF- everyone could see that was a crap move. ANd putting Shaw loose man in defence was just ridiculous.
He stacked his bench with small forwards- why didn't he just put them all on the ground at once, whack Tarrant at CHF and try to outpace Brisbane's bulky defenders. OR if he wasn't planning to outrun them, why did he go in so small? Fraser I thought played really well, but he was always fighting a losing battle against two man mountains. McKEe while not talented would have come in handy.
I have no problem with Malthouse coaching a poor game- I don't even think he should take responsibility. WHat annoys me is his picking the most glaring error he made today (playing CLoke totally out of position) and then singling out the player involved and ridiculing him in the national media. I think that is disgraceful and I'm very surprised he did it.

I agree. I think playing Cloke out of position hurt us deeply. Our defence has been working well for us all year, why mess with it in the biggest game of the year?

And then to have a go at him in the media? That was absolutely rediculous. The players have to take a lot of the responsibility for what happened today, but Mick did make moves that I found baffling at best.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Mick, play Clokey in the backline where he is so good for us.
 
Just read some of the earlier threads (I'm from Sydney so didn't hear any of the interviews). I assume Cloke made his comments before Malthouse. Irrespective, Jason Cloke is a kid just into his 20s (if that?), playing his second year in the big time and first GF. Mick Malthouse is in his 50s, been involved in heaps of GFs- surely he could have had the maturity to dismiss CLoke's outburst as spur of the moment, minimising any media attention. Now a "feud" may develop, and on the whole I think if CLoke goes it would be a big loss for COllingwood. While one-dimensional and not overly skilled, if he is played within that dimension he can be very effective. ANd there's his bros coming through. STupid, Mick, very stupid

If thats a fact...then I wouldnt be surprised if he is sacked, and I wouldnt be too upset after a line like that either.


Coz that is just too far out of line for a 2nd year player. His old man was obviously in his ear. Mistake or not, you dont openly criticize the coach to the media....emotional talking or no. But I'm still struggling to believe he said it, in the context it was delivered in.
 
I would like to hear the context it was said in.

Although I have to admit I think that MM was outcoached this year. And I thought playing Cloke down forward, and not putting him in the backline at all was a completely stupid move.

But that's my opinion.

Whatever was said, I don't think that Cloke will be leaving Collingwood.
