Rafael, Powell & Valdes the obvious omissions. Sam Johnstone was expected to be loaned/sold to a championship club but has been retained. Good to see LVG give Lingard another crack. Was desperately unlucky last year with injury. hope he grasps his opportunity.

The Sean Goss selection is bizarre. Was v highly rated (is a clone of Michael Carrick) but has barely played in the last 2 years because of injury. Most of the people who follow the academy had him closer to being released than making the tour, especially ahead of some of his competition. Ah well, hopefully he does well.

RVP on his move:

He also confirmed he spoke with other clubs about a move and that while he knew the writing had been on the wall for his United future, he held no grudge against the club.

Van Persie was asked if there was any parting message from Van Gaal but only disclosed his farewell meeting with his team-mates before praising United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward for his role in pushing the deal through.

"It was a situation where I could see it coming, if I'm really honest," he said of his Old Trafford exit.

"I could get used to the idea for quite a bit. It was not a situation where it was just happening from day to day so I could get used to the situation - that is football.

"From my side, there are no hard feelings with how it went. It's part of football, it's part of life. I had a good moment with the players the day before I came to Istanbul so that was special. Then you see that everyone really appreciated my time there, that was important for me.

"I highly appreciate the work of Ed Woodward, the CEO of Manchester United. The way he dealt with this transfer is from a high level, it's very classy, he proved he's a true gentlemen in the way he dealt with the whole situation. Ed, if you're listening, thank you!'

Well there you go. Eyes were raised when Valdes was left out of the touring squad, and now we know why that has occurred.

He and LVG are not on the same page so he looks set to depart sooner rather than later.

Really disappointing news considering we gave him an opportunity to do his rehabilitation at the club and followed that up with a contract. Surely it would have been stipulated in that contract - if not blatantly obvious regardless - that he would be joining as a clear number 2 to DDG?

I can understand a desire to stay but surely he can see the uncertainty surrounding DDG's future at the club as an opportunity to grasp that number 1 spot.

Now we'll certainly have to look into bringing a top shelf keeper to the club over the next 6-12 months as we look set to lose our best two options.

We seem to be into Romero who is Argentinas number one and is a free agent so that would be a good move.

Only a few days ago Valdes was tweeting about the upcoming season and his manager said he wanted to stay. Seems like it deteriorated very quickly.

Romero a straight replacement for Valdes as no.2. Stupid Valdes you blew it, he would've been good for a season while we scouted another no.1

Bringing in Romero on a free transfer would be a good move if we cut ties with Valdes which seems inevitable. Very experienced and proven at both club and international level.

I do query, though, whether he's seen as good enough to be our first choice which is what we should be looking for. Plenty of uncertainty surrounding DDG but I am pretty well resigned to the fact his days at the club are numbered. When he leaves is the only query - but whether it be in the next few weeks or at the end of the season - a top quality replacement is needed.

Is Romero that man? I'm not so sure.

My guess is we'll bring Romero in on a free transfer then look to buy a young keeper who we can develop into that first choice keeper. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Sean Goss, on tour with the club. Looks a classy unit.

Basti makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Aside from his playing ability he is an absolute behemoth in the game with his reputation, his influence and his drive. Gun signing. Best singing we have made since Ronaldo and before that Keane.
