Was at the game early and Adams was out on the ground a lot longer than every other player in the lead up, just doing his thing getting himself settled with his earphones on. You hear stories of his professionalism and how he prepares himself, this was a little glimpse first hand at it.

What a jet, he will improve his decision making regarding when to go the mark and when the spoil, but what an absolute coup we drafted him. Thought we may be reluctant after the Fuller debacle but the recruiting team has smashed this out of the park!

We need him down back so badly but I would still love to see him up forward for a quarter to see if he can clunk a few up there...

Definitely. Would also like to see him up forward, only if Wood is in the team though.

Think if we had Wood down back yesterday, some of those bombs forward could have been plucked by Adams.

If he can become a swingman it would be an awesome asset. If Collins is in the backline it means he can go forward, but Collins would need to find his feet in defence just like Adams still needs to. Amazing start but don't move him around for the sake of it just yet

We need forwards, sure, but let the poor guy settle in and make the backline his own. We've been crying out for a strong defender for so long and now we've got one you want to move him out

I didn't say i want to move him permanently. I just said i would love to see what he could do up fwd for a quarter.

Forgetting how good he is defensively, I utterly love how he tries to use the ball. Even if he stuffs up he doesn't drop his head, he'll keep trying to play the right way. Awesome.

Amazing start. I still think we need one more big strong backman. Schoenmakers rag-dolled Morris down there once. Hamling has height but not bulk.

Just caught him off balance, you dont see that too often.

Biggs, JJ, Boyd, Wood, Adams and Morris. Pretty hard to break into that lineup given their form.

I came to suggest the swingman idea to be looked at in the future but see I've been beaten to it. Very interesting idea, especially once Collins is in the team and you have Hamling, Morris and Wood all holding down the backline. Yes he looks like an absolute star back and it's fine if we leave him there etc, but if he can spend a quarter or two playing forward and clunking some marks / crashing some packs in the future, that is a very nice thought... A lot of the best teams have has that player who can go forward or back depending on the match ups and do some damage. He could be ours.

By the time Collins is settled in the team I think we'll have lost Morris to retirement unfortunately. I see Cordy as his long term replacement.

In future I think the backline consists of Collins, Hamling, Cordy & Wood. That to me has the size to combat a lot of forward lines, and frees up Adams to go forward. Adams actually seems like the missing piece of our forward line. A highly mobile centre half forward, that allows Stringer to get the 3rd tall defender and would free up Boyd more also. Imagine a forward line with Boyd, Adams, Stringer, Crameri, Dickson with McLean, Daniel, Dahl etc all rotating through. Very athletic and mobile forward line with a lot of goals in it I'd think. A lot would depend on the progression and development of Collins, Hamling and Cordy of course. Hopefully Wood can be our defensive general again.

Amazing how someone can look like a 100 game player in this competition, playing such an important position so quickly.
Can't sign him to an extension quick enough as Freo are throwing huge $$$ at everyone capable of playing KP. Apparently they had a real crack at Josh Bruce who will supposedly sign a 4 yr deal with saints on top of everyone else they are supposedly into.

Collins should come in this week regardless - he should be allowed to play against Carlton and Brisbane with Adams. I think this will be enough before we taken on the North Melbourne and Adelaide talls. Would give Beveridge more flexibility to move Adams forward for periods when we are dominating.

They will both need to start to learn to work together as well. Collins' VFL form warrants it.

Yep I agree. Time to go taller with Collins as the full back. Plus I want to trial Hamling forward. We need to develop another marking target. Campbell to come in if Boyd misses through injury.

Best part about his start is that a lot of people on here have to put their hand up & admit they were very wrong.

After a couple of nab games I read comments ranging from "he's miles away from AFL level" to "no way he's going to play more than 10 games this season". All for a few dodgy disposals in country stadiums with wind all over the place

To be fair, he's had the dodgy disposals in the tin shed too. Can't tell me that was from the breeze coming through the walkways! :D

We've all been a little blinded by the lace out 55-60m bombs he's kicked and the ridiculously good contested marking, that we forget he's missed a couple of opportunities where he should have spoilt and it's spilt out the back for goals, and a couple of horrible 25m chip kicks that probably should've resulted in goals but haven't.

Don't get me wrong, he's better than we all could've possibly dreamt, but every time I see him line up to switch pass to a teammate 20m away I flinch / wince.

Wasn't within the 5m that we were discussing last week, but no umpire seems to care about that any more.
Seriously, if they are going to apply a liberal interpretation all year every year I'd rather they changed the law accordingly. No wonder newcomers to our sport struggle to follow the game.

From memory Schoey goaled from that mark didn't he?

Had more marks against the best team in the AFL (15) than against any opponent in his entire WAFL career. The step up this bloke has taken is incredible.

It's almost worrying really. People may start asking questions about our supplements program now. We bring in some guy out of nowhere built like Hulk Hogan and taking huge marks over seasoned veterans? He certainly wasn't this good when we drafted him a few months ago or he would have gone pick 1 in the draft. How does someone improve that much, that fast, naturally? Seems suspicious.
