Everyone is also forgetting that we have the next Easton Wood waiting in the wings. Rourke Smith will be an absolute star!
Feels like the forgotten man a bit - I think most rate his potential but he's pretty often left out of the conversation. Definitely capable of playing a role in the future I think.

As an aside, it's interesting to look at how our defensive stocks have grown in the past few years; given our play style we're happy to have mediums rotating in and out of key position slots so we're essentially looking at 3-4 of the following (no particular order):
Fletcher Roberts
Kieran Collins
Marcus Adams
Zaine Cordy
Roarke Smith
Joel Hamling
Easton Wood
Dale Morris
Could almost count Biggs as well but of course we'd all prefer him to be the 4th or 5th option. Good flexibility though.

I guess the point is that we've got a heap of potential options there now, which wasn't the case even a year ago. Too early to call one way or another on most of them but at the same time I think most would agree there are plenty of great signs in that group.

I was certain that you guys were going to take him at your first pick. He appeared to fit a need, was a local boy and was ready to play. He really played well once he played CHB but was still serviceable as a lead up forward.
Surprised with the Tucker pick, as he will be 2-3 years from playing Afl, as RTB just ignores the young guys and he was slim in build. I hope this changes soon and you guys embrace the youth, as I can't stand the eGirls.

I think we were set to take him with our 2nd pick but you had him by then. For our first pick it was considered a bit of a reach and Tucker was obviously seen by the club as the better long term prospect (and he was our leading possession winner in the NAB against Adelaide). I think there is a real emphasis on our recruits to have excellent disposal now and they must have rated our KPD stocks as ok (although I am no fan of Dawson as he cannot rebound and MJ is getting older we do have Alex Pearce and Sean Hurley coming along). Our KPF problems are well known but I guess will be fixed when get Hogan...

I think we need a year or at least 6 months to transition to a different game plan and sort out who will take us forward (I think guys like Weller, A. Pearce, Bennell, Morabito, Langdon and Tucker versus Dawson, Mayne, DeBoer, Barlow). By then our midfield and HB should be good, KPD ok and then it will rely on fixing that KPF issue or solving it by having a very mobile forward line and fast ball delivery.

All the best - doggies are easily my 2nd fav. team and will follow big Marcus's career with interest. You have a great coach willing to challenge standard thinking (particularly rucks) and you can tell the players really respond to him.

The last two years we have stockpiled on Defenders which has been really pleasing because it's been an obvious weakness us in Previous seasons. I'm kind of torn at the moment as to who would be our third option between Collins and Hamling.

It's an amazing job by Dal to trade back in the draft and get both Collins and Dunkley. Collins looks like he may have top 5 potential. And with how Adams played on Saturday, with a bit more experience he could be our version of Alex Rance. Just the way he reads the play and attacks the footy reminded me of him a lot on Saturday.

I don't have a "preferred" setup at the moment - it's entirely dependant on matchups. If we're against a forward line we think we can cover and expose, go small - Morris, Wood, and one of Hamling/Adams. If we're up against a good-excellent, multi-focal forward line, play those four. If we're up against a forward line with a really strong, threatening focal point (e.g. Melbourne, Geelong), one of Collins/Roberts comes in at the expense of either Hamling or Adams.

Post-Morris I feel Cordy/Smith/Wood/Adams/Hamling will be fighting for up to three spots, with one of Collins/Roberts filling the other. Haven't seen enough of most of them to predict accurately, but I'll say that I genuinely believe Cordy will play a big part in our future defensive setup.

Isn't Rourke Smith only 181 cm? Should we be mentioning him alongside the medium-tall defenders? He's got a great leap but he's pretty undersized.

Has regularly played above his height in the VFL though, mostly to good effect. He may not stand key forwards but he's in the mix for those medium spots moreso than the running defender types in my opinion.

How good a bloke is Lynchy?
Rippa bloke
he's my twin (my mates suggest we look the same)
spoke to him after the bombers game and he asked what we were doing all day.
said we watched the game and kicked the footy, instantly said ohh yeah i spotted you kick some rippa goals, we should have you at footscray

Really good bloke, was surprised he took 10mins out of his day off to talk to fans

He sounds like a politician!

Watched a bit of Adams when he played for the Falcons, I would have loved the Eagles to have taken him, but we already had a few developing key defenders. There are always players in the WAFL that are 21, 22 who you think would do well at an AFL club but don't get a shot (Shane Nelson is another one from West Perth).

Adams was awesome on the weekend, so congrats on a great pickup. I was hoping he'd get an early game and cement a spot. Gelled really well with the running defenders, not that I need to tell you all that.

What was Adams like as a forward?

Hey guys,

Glad you picked this guy up because he was terrific for West Perth.

I knew he was good enough to play top level after he regularly took apart AFL listed players in the WAFL.

He's not just big and strong he's as tough as teeth . Got knocked out in the prelim final last year but managed to wake himself up and then dominate the game.

The interesting thing is he's a excellent forward target.....don't stand in front of him!

He's a good forward, reckon he kicked about a goal a game a few years ago while he was being moved around, did a bit of ruck work even from the games I saw. Likes to run hard at the ball, so he can create a contest even if he doesn't mark it. Decent set shot too.

Can someone tell me how Grizzly Adams went on the weekend

For those upset at the club for what 'we' did to Talia causing us to 'lose a KPD', in pure football terms this guy is that far ahead of Talia at the moment it is not even close. One of the most impressive KPP debut's for a mature unknown doggies player I can remember

Hes the guy to go to your Wingards, Grays, Lecras, Menzels I think

Small-mediums who have good marking games.

In my opinion, his future is not at the bulldogs
but he has a season to prove me wrong
