I really don't know where I sit with Keane and his position/form.

I think Worrell is a greater asset than him, and still have my heart in my mouth when he is left 1 - on 1. Great as a loose defender but that is all I feel at this stage. His value is probably as high as it will get, and with Borlase still as a depth coverage do we keep or get value?
I think I feel strongly now to sell. Although BOTH him AND Borlase seemed out of their depth.

I would prefer to keep Keane, as think he is OK if we have 2 of Murray, Worrell & Butts in the team... but is currently found out if he is our main defender as suspect 1 on 1.

It's why i would be paying Murray & Worrell more as rate them much higher & harder to replace.

I quite like Keane. Still makes plenty of mistakes but i think he will get there and be a good player.

However, i really like this draft and would be willing to part with him for a late first.

No way am i letting him go cheaply though.

Borlase is a low budget depth player. Im okay with keeping him for depth.

I see Keane as a third tall and behind Worrel in terms of pecking order.

Team like Hawthorn, Bulldogs and Sydney all play with only one monster key defender that takes on the Gorilla forwards. The rest are third tall types.

Murray should be our only big tall key defender with Borlase as back up.

Butts, Keane are surplus to requirements.

backline should be:

Laird, Murray, Hinge
Michalanney, Worrell, Ryan

Their first pick is 30, can't say I can see them offering anything earlier than that. They may give us some points for welsh (or maybe even enough to cover him entirely) they also have 2 picks in 3rd round

Thanks, feels like we should get more than that given Ratugolea was pick 25 and out of contract.

Pick 30 might be better than a future second given the strength of this year's draft.

Happy to trade if we can get a top 20-25 pick. Do not overpay contract wise for a key defender and especially not for one that doesn't like body contact. Murray, Worrell, Butts is perfectly good for our tall defender stocks.

I was surprised to learn that Butts is still 24 and only 3 months older than Keane. Bit injury prone but is miles ahead of Keane defensively and gets a bit of a bad rap on here.

Late first round pick otherwise keep him, his value isn't going down and I don't care if he sooks it up, plenty of clubs in Melbourne if he prefers to go there, otherwise see out your contract.

If Collingwood want him, come up with something we will let him go for. Happy to take McCreery in a straight swap but if he contracted we should get value

Spot on.
Murray and Butt's both better.
Borlase good enough as a backup, not much more - as it should be.

Pick in the 20s for Keane, do it.

How many goals has Amartey kicked since his playing is..

IMO, most of Keane’s mistakes come from him being overly focussed on winning the ball.

You would also say that what Butts lacks is attacking instinct.

Realistically, only the very elite defenders get that balance right all the time. I think both players can be useful, it’s just about developing a defensive unit that gets the best out of them. I think we can be successful with either Keane or Butts.

I do think though, that the likelihood we see Keane get rid of those errors is pretty unlikely.

Butts gets a bad rap on here as he is too indecisive.

I said it before he is like a poor man version of Talia.

Talia though was more quick in his decision making and didn't turn the ball over as often.
