Lets go with a timeline

Keane goes home for personal reasons
Keane after some reflection and discussion with his family decides to stay longer
Keane is granted this extra time on compassionate grounds
Keane informs the club 2 weeks before trade and draft that he wants to be closer to some mythical friend in Melbourne
Keane informs the club this club is Collingwood
The AFC in recognition of his compassionate grounds grants the trade

Every stoop here swallows it
I’m not swallowing it. He can play for us or stand out of footy. Don’t think Reidy cops it either.

Not sure many know much about Justin Reid but if anything he can be too ruthless on occasion. The Gibbs ***** example was a Fagan directive.

And for all those who crap on about how we got bent over in the Danger FA/trade scenario vs GWS “playing tough” with Cameron:

  • firstly, Crows were the first ever team to match and force a trade. Without doubt compensation for departing players has got much more realistic (higher price paid) in the 5 years between Danger and JC rocking uo at ShitePark
  • anyone doing the sums may just get a nasty surprise. Crows got 9 and 28 - worth pick 4. GWS got 13, 15 and 20 BUT also gave up 2 mid second rounders. My sums…GWS also earnt pick 4 in the wash up based on wiki. We both got the same value based on points system.

The points system fails the smell test at every turn. You should never use the points system to justify anything.

Would any club trade pick 17 for picks 46, 56 and 59? Of course not... but according to the points, that's about even. In fact, that's exactly what we gave up to match a bid for Michalanney at pick 17, and we even got given a draft pick (79) back in return!

Agreed overall - even if your examples used are nothing like I outlined - but if anything a top 10 pick has even more RELATIVE value than these mid-late first rounders GWS got “in the real world”. Either way, my point is that GWS didn’t receive some massive bounty relative to the crows when you consider they handed back 2 second rounders (which I had forgotten about u til recently)

Someone on Reddit mentioned that they spoke to someone at the club and he’s gone home as his Mum is unwell/undergoing an operation. Given that he still trained this week, it would line up with this being a family issue that came up quickly and meant he had to leave asap.

Brodie Smith also mentioned that he will enjoy seeing Keane back during the pre season. Tex described a prank on his regular MMM slot a couple of weeks back that Keane and Gallagher pulled on him, which doesn’t sound like someone disgruntled with the club.

He aint coming back to us next year. It's much easier to ask for a trade when you are the other side of the world.

The full story will come out in 2-3 weeks.

AFC has a player management problem.

We're still rolling the Neil Craig crusher & backbone style hierarchy. Our senior players are culture killers. We got rid of Pyke & Burton but kept the senior players who backed them up whilst throwing other teammates under the bus. In fact, we still revere these turds as leaders to this day. Nothing has changed and it never was whilst guys like Sloane and Tex continued to drive culture.

So it’s all just BF bull**** that he’s left the club. He’s asked for leave and got it. No evidence of anything else.

Jim Carrey Ok GIF

Yep, club employees never mislead to suit their own purposes.

^ That's what that Shaun/Sean caller said on AA
Is that what Kirky is quoting, or independent?

Anyway, I find it very difficult to believe that an Irishman, having trained on the day, becomes so upset with the selection policy for others in the side, that he manages to arrange a flight and return to Ireland the same night! Let alone, also have a plan, and announce it to someone, to dump on the club's selection policy over the next few weeks. This doesn't pass the sniff test and I see no reason to think the club is lying at this point.

By the way, none of this implies that the AFC doesn't have severe development problems, but I don't see them as the cause of this.

If Mark Keane leaving us is proof of a poorly run club, does it make the club better than Collingwood if he turns out to be staying?

Or is Mark Keane's loyalty actually not that big a factor in club administration? 🤔

Just because someone is on good terms with the club and its players doesn’t mean they aren’t leaving.

One thing we know about Reid is...

He's a flog.

We should get some clarification on this during the week now Collingwood and us are both out.

The lack of information probably suggests there is nothing to the rumours. A player wouldnt leave in silence if it was based on club mistreatment. A manager would make a statement. Or someone somewhere would leak it to the media. The fact its never got further than a BF rumour really does suggest its a personnel reason.

Doesnt mean he isnt planning to head back to Collingwood though.
