I'm still yet to see Riewoldt's (should be shown on TF tonight) so for me, it's gotta be Bartel. One of the most important aspects for me in a spectacular mark is the landing. Sampi landed on his feet. Jimmy landed on his back. I liked the way he just kinda of lay on whoever it was' back for about a second. Also, Sampi was pushed upwards by Yze.
wouldnt want to be on the panel of this one. Whoever misses out out of Bartel, Roo or Sampi will be stiff, and that's just the first half of the season. I reckon someone will come out of nowhere and take the mark of the millenium

Didn't have to do it, nearly decapitated a teammate and gave an opposition player a close shave with the boot studs in the process.
Maybe I'm biased or something, but a really great grab is somewthing you don't expect, something that is out of the ordinary and has people needing a replay to believe it happened. "Screamers" are old hat, it was a great mark and everything, but its been done.

Riedwoldt's and Bartel's are super courageous. but not overly exciting, it just made me go 'wow, he is brave'.
sampis is most exciting, and most spectacular to watch, so sampi for me. i said 'holy sh.it' when he took his.

Riewolt is 6 foot 4 all he ran into was milne who is 2 foot 1. bartel ran into a pack of 4 players a foot taller than him. Riewolts just looked better with a better flip.

Do you go for the Shaun Smith-like mark of Ashley Sampi's, or for the Jonathon Brown-like mark of Nick Riewoldt?
I don't think that Sampi's was quiet as good as Smith's at the 'GABBA, and I actually think Riewoldt's mark was better than Brown's mark at the MCG.

Would it be an outlandish statement if I was to say that three of the marks this year could all be in the top 10 of all time?
I might be biased, but anyway.....
I viewed all 3 with great detail and I was most impressed by Bartels, based on his size running back, Reiwolt would have known it would be almost impossible to stop him (ie, had to get damaged). Sampi....dime a dozen (..actually really liked it).
Bartel = 95/100
Reiwolt = 90/100
Sampi = 93.5/100

yes it absolutely would.
yes, correct, Riewoldts didnt excite me, if anything bartels was more exciting, and i think if bartel was a more talented, respected player than Riewoldt, he's mark would have been considered better. if bartel was more respected, his would have been considered much better, the only reason it wasnt is because Riewoldt is better known. bartels was much better, but dont get me wrong, Riewoldts was awesome too, again, dont get me wrong, sampis was better!!!
Why don't the AFL just have a "Screamer of the Year" and a "Courageous Mark of the Year"?

As far as elevation goes, Sampi's mark is up there with the greatest of all time. Riewoldt's and Bartel's grabs although both brilliant, aren't up there with the most courageous of all time. That's why Sampi got my vote. Well, that and i'm biased.
