As the contracted Coach of the Geelong Football Club he has the responsibilty to protect the integrity of the Club that employs him and not be seen to collude with rival Clubs and/or other football people. The exact same onus applies to the individual Clubs themselves.
A phone call every now and then to a friend is completely different to a series of calls that coincide with a period of contract negotiations at the GFC.
The law is this...."the law of probabilty" - Does a judge believe that it is probable or does he believe that it is improbable that this behaviour occured??
If the police find a dead body on the road and find a car with a dent in it with other evidence to support the fact that it was that car that hit the victim they charge that driver - they didn't actually witness the Driver strike the person - but in all probabilty the evidence indicates that it occured.

but anyway - on the flip side... Ess gets an insurance policy against the inexperienced Hird - if Hird succeeds, well and good, if not, there is a dual premiership coach and former club captain in the wings

You're talking about the man who has coached the only premierships you have won since 1963. He took over a team that finished 11th the year before he started and who coached one of the most dominant teams of the decade.
Anyone could have coached Geelong to two flags? But they didn't. Anyone who began in 2007 could have coached Geelong to two flags, on the back of the hard work Bomber had done from 2000 onward.
Should had (sic) sacked him in 2006? So someone else could ride to glory on the work he did? You think the 2007 team just came together magically with no work at all?
You Cats fans are even more stupid than I thought. If you want to talk dishonesty or disloyalty I can entertain those opinions. If you want to suggest that another coach could have built a more dominant team than Bomber built, I have some land on the moon I'd like to sell you.
I get where you're going with this, and I understand the argument. Give me 12 months and I may be on your side but for now I would like to think that the Essendon Football Club recognizes that a young, untried coach will make mistakes and are currently trying to provide the best support team possible. Hard to see how it could be a negative.

Lets see how long it takes him to make the Essendon list work, because we all know it will be Bomber who is calling the shots, not Hird.
Watching all the Essendscum supporters so positive and upbeat is very funny given they have only acquired a couple of new coaches recently. They don't run through the banners you dipsticks you are as good as the cattle you put out on the ground and out of an entire list most of them are spuds.

Bomber has been pretty consistent. He did what was in Geelong's best interests by stepping aside when he lost his apatite for the job of senior coach. He did what was in Geelong's best interests by trying to convince Gary Ablett to stay. He personally rang hundreds of non-renewing Geelong members when the club was drowning in debt. He's done as much for the GFC as anyone in the past 60 years. So Cat fans should really just thank the man and then STFU!
It's wonderful being able to welcome Bomber back to Bomberland. Our coaches’ box is looking pretty sweet. Our list still needs some work and we’ve got great people to help them along. Despite Essendon "not having the cattle", there's still a pungent stench of fear ‘round these parts. Interesting.

So now in hindsight we know that both of the new Bombers gun coach recruits, Crazy-Hirdy and Sandwich-Man, both basically bullshitted their way through the whole year about how they were NOT going to go to Essendon.
