RICHMOND premiership player Marlion Pickett has been granted bail by a Perth magistrate after being charged over a string of alleged burglaries in which currency was stolen from safes.

Police remanded Pickett in custody on Sunday - a day after he played in the Tigers' 15-point win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium - alleging he was involved in commercial burglaries between December and January.

The 31-year-old appeared in the dock in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, wearing a black sweatshirt.

He only spoke to confirm his name and was not required to enter pleas.

A police prosecutor told the court the alleged offending by Pickett and others involved a series of commercial burglaries resulting in the theft of more than $380,000 in Australian and foreign currencies from within safes.

Pickett is facing 12 charges including four counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.

Prosecutors opposed bail, saying there was a risk Pickett would reoffend if he was released.

Pickett's lawyer David Manera said the prosecution case rested largely on allegations deposits were made into his bank account by his co-offenders and that a camper-van rented in his name was driven interstate by the other men.

Magistrate Erin O'Donnell said the allegations were serious but she was confident Pickett did not present a significant flight risk.

She granted bail on the condition Pickett resides at his address in the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, reports weekly to a local police station, does not interact with his alleged co-offenders and provides a $50,000 personal surety.

Good idea, keep players away from their families.
Out here in the Wild West ‘Aboriginal Towns’ (WTF), are on every street corner. You can usually get from one to another by horse and cart. The ping police allegedly have uncovered was actually the distinct sound that Marlin’s horse clip clopped. My understanding is the currency place was 1000km’s away in an ’Aboriginal Town’ that has a population of 6. Why have a currency joint in the big city? Them ’Aboriginal Towns’ are rolling in it and they demand foreign currency. Other robberies occurred in Belary and Wakathuni which are both 1600km from Perth. The horse ride took a good 25 days return.
‘And if you are wondering this has taken quite a while for the police to act as telegraph poles have been down for 3 months.
I like this good comeback. You made one error the horses weren't pulling a cart just a Campervan full of modern essentials eg Maps, Code numbers,Tools of the trade

I don't know if you have being following the Brittany Higgins case.

Irrespective if he did or otherwise in that case, the enquiry into that case shows the cops didn't believe or have enough evidence But the prosecution still ran the highest profile case of the year....

The events for Marlion aren't made up, but the cops take things to court to sort through what they find.....they use it to see what sticks....yeah, how s**t is that?

Sometimes it is a slam dunk (don't get me wrong) but the magistrate after reviewing the information before them....noted in the bail hearing that the evidence so far is circumstantial, that should give you a clue as to what a judge thinks
I know mate and well aware how the law system that allows criminals too roam free to do the same thing over and over and yes the same one that 13 year old killed 4 innocent people with another stolen car. And the busdriver Idiot that killed another 10. The cops do A really good job its the judicial system that is a farce.

What you think I'm tiger 71 or that dude from woodend? I don't have time for crap like that. I just Write my articles here and people pinch them lol

Anyone who thinks the cops don't cook or stretch evidence to solve crimes has no idea. They lie, cheat and shred

Don't lionise that prick. He knew about or was involved with everything Bandali Debs did. I knew Kristy Harty, who was murdered by Debs. campaigner should still be in jail

I'm not making anyone anything. My point is that even with the most high profile of cases with stakes on the line, the cops make things up and stretch the truth to make the charges stick.

all defence lawyers defend dodgy people and sometimes, innocent ones
Court cases can take years to get a conviction / resolution
Specially if you have good lawyers / KC they can get adjourned for years and holes in the case can be picked apart from a smart mouth piece
which im presuming Marlion will appoint as the longer it takes the longer marlion plays and earns money from his limited career left and often it will ge tangled up and a plea agreement could get reached.

The issue for Richmond & Marlion in the mean time is he is out of contract at the end of the year and what the new deal will look like for him
I would say a 1 year deal on $100k plus $10k a game is the best likely result for both parties which gives him the opportunity to earn $340k in 2024
and maybe a bonus like $50k if he is top 5 and $25k top 10 in the Dyer medal

Im just hoping we have a good lawyer & KC in Perth that we can call upon to represent Marlion.
Marlions lawyer also seems to represent some dodgy people

David Manera is known as one of Perth's leading solicitors. Soon he'll be known as the lawyer representing the man accused of shooting a bikie boss.

Listened to it twice.
The police did stretch a few things - maybe more than a few things.
Still in no way do I think he was innocent.

I can't understand why we stood him down for this week, but he is available after the bye. You are presumed innocent until proven guilty. if his head was right why isnt he playing this week or have the club had an ultimatum from City Hall? I say the latter

Club didn’t think his head was right having spent a night in remand. Will be back after the bye.

Marlion is only a couple of games short of an extension trigger to his contract. It would presumably be on the same terms or would be pre agreed at least.

I'm all for backing our guy and waiting until the court proceedings are finalised. He is given the presumption of innocence and as such he shouldn't be prevented from continuing his employment with the club. I'm hoping obviously he is innocent for his sake and his families sake even more so.

The 30-year-old also pleaded guilty to a long list of separate child sex abuse charges, including indecently recording a child under 13 years and the sexual penetration of a child of the same age in Bunbury and Carey Park between March and April this year. Pickett has no connection to these charges.

Great guy to be associating with Marlion :poo:
