RICHMOND premiership player Marlion Pickett has been granted bail by a Perth magistrate after being charged over a string of alleged burglaries in which currency was stolen from safes.

Police remanded Pickett in custody on Sunday - a day after he played in the Tigers' 15-point win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium - alleging he was involved in commercial burglaries between December and January.

The 31-year-old appeared in the dock in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, wearing a black sweatshirt.

He only spoke to confirm his name and was not required to enter pleas.

A police prosecutor told the court the alleged offending by Pickett and others involved a series of commercial burglaries resulting in the theft of more than $380,000 in Australian and foreign currencies from within safes.

Pickett is facing 12 charges including four counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.

Prosecutors opposed bail, saying there was a risk Pickett would reoffend if he was released.

Pickett's lawyer David Manera said the prosecution case rested largely on allegations deposits were made into his bank account by his co-offenders and that a camper-van rented in his name was driven interstate by the other men.

Magistrate Erin O'Donnell said the allegations were serious but she was confident Pickett did not present a significant flight risk.

She granted bail on the condition Pickett resides at his address in the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, reports weekly to a local police station, does not interact with his alleged co-offenders and provides a $50,000 personal surety.

It’s so sad that everyone jumps on the guy. He says he is innocent and I believe him. He is a completely innocent man. He is guilty of nothing. If a court finds otherwise we deal with it then.
Given all these high profile cases where allegations were treated as fact and respondents treated abominably by the media I would like to think we have learnt a lesson. This is the same WA police for example behind the lloyd Raney fiasco. Where they had the media waiting at every turn. When he was arrested, when they visited his home etc. He was treated as a guilty man. Except he was not. Thankfully he received a massive payout.

Probably just a overeaction from racist WA cops.
He was probably walking home with his cousins who were drunk and a couple of them did something.
It’s actually not as silly as it sounds and if I was to imagine how this unfolds that’s the picture I’d draw , just a hunch

There is something seriously sick in our culture where Marlion is shamed and charged over thefts at an office. If guilty he will go to jail. Meanwhile Crown and Star launder $100’s of millions, pressure regulators to look the other way, eventually confess everything and no one goes to jail.
AFL have no problem doing business with crown even after all they have admitted to. Yet Marlion is now gets all the headlines despite insisting he is innocent and having not yet been found to be guilty of anything.

So true, you only have to look no further than our crooked premier to know that your statement is absolutely true.

Please mate. If he did the crime he will do the time. Fingers crossed he is innocent. I may as well become racist and say China get away with it if that’s your rationale.

Got no idea while Marlion would do what he has been charged with. He had a good career and was earning decent money and was up front about turning his life around and being off the booze.

Doesn't seem any logical reason for Marlion to go back to his former life. The only thing I can speculate on was that it was a family property dispute that got out of hand.

It's been pretty good of late tbf.

Plenty of players have faced much more serious allegations and played through. Let's back him in, no doubt we'll get him the best lawyers.
Hopefully all ends up working out. Regarding how this affects us on field, it’s really unfortunate since he’s been a good presence up forward in terms of bringing the ball to ground and pressuring.
