Autopsy Marsh Community Series - Game 2, 2020: Collingwood v St.Kilda

I must be living on a different planet regarding Lonie. He averages less then a goal a game over his career playing as a permanent forward. His disposal count is low, tackle numbers are ok, marks inside 50, meh.... Is there anything he does well? Oh wait he's the superstar of the marsh series over two whole games where many players are not going 100%.

I actually liked what i saw without the jest during the pre season but wow just wow at the comments. May as well throw a tenner on him to win the Coleman, lol

Alright i get it, this is a saints fanatic forum where logical balanced discussion isn't on the radar.

Post something logical then.

Talk about over exaggerating all i have seen is people saying he has had a good pre season and deserves a spot in the 22
and his form before injury last year was good

Beats slagging players

How many goals a game was Eddie Betts averaging over his career at 22?

Charlie Cameron?

Stephen Milne wasn't even playing senior footy at 23.

I posted his stats when last quoting your foolish comment and you chose to ignore it.

Yes his career average is one goal a game , but that is starting to climb.

From late 2018 until he was injured he was averaging around 18 touches and 2 goals a game.

That's elite. Lets hope he can keep it up.

I'm yet to see you post anything logical yet so it's a bit rich potting everyone else.

Is Lonie really that much of an issue?

i would have thought he's pretty far down the list in terms of "issues"

right now the financial impact on the club from the corona virus is head and shoulders above any player on our list or not playing finals

Eddie? 1.7 But he was another freak talent.
( i could say it was easier to score back in those days, Jack Riewoldt's 2 65 goal Coleman's are the lowest since John Peck's 56 in 1965 , the time since Buddy kicked his 100 goals is the longest time between 100 goal kickers since Peter Hudson broke the drought after John Coleman. ).

Last season:
Charlie Cameron 25YO 2.2 goals /game.
Michael Walters 28YO 1.8 goals/game
Alex Sexton 25 YO 1.8 goals /game
Sam Lloyd 29YO 1.6 goals/game
Tom Papley 23YO 1.7 goals/game
Eddie Betts 32YO 1.8 goals/game
Gary Ablett 35YO 1.4 goals/game
Jordan DeGoey 33YO 2 goals/game.
Luke Breust 28YO 1.6 goals/game
McDonald Tipunwuti 26YO 1.4 goals/game
Dustin Martin 28YO 1.4 goals/game
Liam Ryan 22 YO 1.2 goals/game
Jamie Cripps 27YO 1.6 goals/game
Brandon Matera 27YO 1.5 goals/game
Connor Rozzee 19YO 1.3 goals/game
Gryan Miers 20YO 1.1 goals/game
Jason Castagna 23YO 1.3 goals/game
Toby Greene 26YO 1.4 goals/game
Jamie Elliot 27YO 1.6 goals/game

I could easily see Lonie joining that group.
No he's never going to be Cameron, or Martin, or DeGoey, and yes some younger players have bodies better equipped for AFL at the time they are drafted, but Lonie has the ability to score between 1.5 and 2 goals per game average over a season.

hey calm down. i'm not suggesting Lonie didn't have a good game. i was merely pointing out there's more to it than just goals kicked.

but don't let that stop you from frothing at the mouth.
I will stop frothing at the mouth when you start talking with some degree of knowledge and intelligence, and when you give the guy a fair break and some due credit.
I understand these are only opinions you are stating but please some positive stuff for a change would be good.

Arent Lonie and Battle looking like incredible draft steals

If Dunstan puts together a great season, we should get Trout back

2 slightly above average players out of the 70 (made that figure up) or so drafted and traded under his watch still might not make him an expert though.

We were referring to career average stats, not for the season.

After his 5th year Betts was averaging around 1.2

Cameron about the same

And that's comparing his stats to one of the greats of the game and the best small forward right now.

It probably shows that career average at that age isn't nearly as relevant as recent form

As I've said before, Lonie was averaging 2 goals a game between being recalled in 2018 and getting injured last year.

I'm not suggesting he's going to be near as good as either Betts or Cameron either, I'm just showing that getting worked up about his 1 goal a game average at his age is ridiculous.

It will suck major balls if we finally get our shit together, make finals and they cancel the season at that point....only to do a 1998 like flop year straight after it. I know I'm pessimistic, but I'm quite good at it.

Quite good ? 🤔
Rob Harvey like

Finally got around to watching it. Had a big week of moving and work.

Great to get the win, not that it means much. It did suck seeing as keep bombing it long after the first marsh game looked much nicer. However it made sense. Howe was picking off all the leads, bombing it long at least turned it into a 50 50. Something to remember about forward entries, if the other team has a high quality floating intercepter, you want to take them out of the game.

King gave me more to like, despite the kicking, but hey, it's St. Kilda after all.

All in all I'm feeling kinda confident about rd 1. Given Norths Injuries. A lot can change though.

I’ve read this before, I’m not sure where it comes from. Milne had just turned 21 when he debuted. He kicked 50 goals as a 22 year old in a team that finished 2nd last.

As for Lonie, I’ve always thought he panicked too much with the ball but he doesn’t disappear from games and he’s always a chance for a few goals.

He has looked generally more composed since his recall in 2018 - hopefully a case of experience building, and the realisation he has more time than he used to think. Also looks a lot more composed on his set shots now.

He's far from being the worst player on our list, and I'm really hoping that my belief he will be better for our re-jigged forward line is proven in 2020.

Hater....he can read your thoughts.

On the bright side, if the season is cancelled, we at least saw one game at Moorabbin and made the Top 8 on the Marsh series ladder.
**clutching at straws**

Marshall
Gresham
Clark
Billings
Ross
Battle
Long
Lonie
Dunstan
Coffield
Paton

Your way over the top comments about Trout and personal attacks and insults are going to look more and more stupid as the next few years go by Gringo.
;)

It's been a LOT of very ordinary reading.

It would be a good stupid to look though in all honesty.

He was the most enjoyable player to watch at golf day as well LOL

Would have been one of the few who wasn't pro quality in that era. Sam Fisher and Goddard could have been pros.
