The old Burley vs Sherrin argument again. Heard recently from a VCFL official, that the AFL conducted a test where they provided footballs with no brand names on them to a group of high ranking players, some sherrin and some burley. The players couldn’t tell the difference.

A football is a football. Get over it!:)

Your club will reap the benefits. $50 to purchase a Burley from the VCFL vs $100 for a T.W.

Each club purchases a minimum 10 per season for match day so that is a $500 saving already. No doubt clubs purchase a similar number again for training and etc so it is a good move.

Burley footballs were created by the guy responsible for the Sherrin Footy's design anyway so you'll find the Burley is a good footy.

BTW: Congrats to the newly elected delegates. High fives all round on the Ballarat Hub getting the nod too.

It was said with a smile mate.:)

Sorry if you got your feathers ruffled but the Sherrin vs Burley thing just annoys me.
If Sherrin didn’t exist, everyone would gladly accept a Burley.

Wait and see. I've heard it and doubt it very much but Chipper would have some pull. Rumours of his back injury might limit his capacity to play higher levels and if the $1000 a week is true, who here wouldn't sign the dotted line?

On another note. The draw is reportedly out at the moment. Does anyone have a copy of it? I've heard it is 20 rounds. With most teams having 2 byes throughout the year. 18 rounds is still a lot of competion. Especially when your paying $1000 a week to a player.:D

Yes where is the draw? I've been looking everywhere. Avoca have their draw on their website. But not the complete one:confused:

if this 20 round season is true, i personally dont like the idea and feel as though the season is too long..20 rounds, plus upto 4 finals is a long year for country footballers.
thats possibly 22 games, and add the pre season training and practice matches..wow..
its a big committment also for people to committ to 25ish weeks of football, particularly for families and couples building houses etc. and that includes people around clubs not simply players..

be interested to hear others thoughts on the possible draw??

also IMO sherrins are much better than the brick burleys, too pointy. no science to this just a personal feel thing. a poll would b interesting to gauge peoples preferences.

Fact: It is 20 Rounds. We all know the season will be shortened to a May start again.

I would like to think we could get away on time this year. Our ground is slightly better than this time last year and we have started to water over the last week or so in preparation for training. I would think our ground will come up. Surely clubs have learnt from last year and have put plans in place to get their grounds up to scratch for this season.

As for the length of the season.... I would not like to go any longer than 20 rounds... it's a long season. But in saying that I am absolutely in favour of us having the fairest draw possible and more rounds allows this to happen.

As far as the Burley v Sherrins argument. I would prefer sherrins... just a gut feel, but in saying that I can shank a sherrin just as well as a burley! :)

Just a thought but maybe the MCDFL won't be compelled to use Burley footballs. The Ballarat Hub will have an immediate focus of raising sponsorship for the league which is one of the reason the BFL and LPFL use Burley footballs. The league receives sponsorship and cheaper pricing to use Burley balls. If Sherrin decides to match the Burley approach then they may get the deal. I realise it's more than likely that Burley will get the deal as they are trying to break into a Sherrin dominated Victorian market but it's not finalised yet surely.

BTW A poor workman blames his tools. I agree with KR that a serious shank of the pill can occur regardless of make.

Any news on creek lads?

At the moment there are two draws circulating - one with Creek in and the other with them being excluded. Creek officials have indicated that the club is on track to return to the fold for the 2008 season. I guess only time will give us an outcome.

I see where Steve Broad has been elected to the position of junior development officer for the MCDFL. He replaces Reiny Gunther. Steve wll bring a wealth of experience to this role. A strong junior comp is a must if the league is to flourish into the future.

Clearances opened today - nothing vey exciting to date. I suppose clubs will have to show their off season recruiting success or lack of it, in the near future. Also sure to be a number of players that will be seeking clearances to other leagues.

Maldon has made the first move by lodging clearances for a couple of more than useful footballers from the Castlemaibe club..

I see the Maldon club as being the big improvers this season.

Does anyone know where i can find the fixture?

No idea. I haven't checked the MCDFL site... perhaps its there. It will be released very shortly in the addy if it hasn't been already.

2 clearances in thus far - Lachlan Brown and Shaun Burchell to Maldon from Castlemaine.... As expected I think. Everyone else quiet.

Most, if not all, clubs should have started pre-season by now. How are the numbers and ovals looking??

Talbot's oval in slightly better knick than normal which is promising. Had a good first up run last Friday with a very good turnout. A lot of blokes performed well in the time-trial and have come back after beer season looking reasonably fit.

Sherman.... You looked like you had tanned up considerably over Summer!

yes ritchie, fair to say i've hit the solarium pretty hard in the pre season...lol..and as for u rojer you just keep working on those man boobs your developing..:D

as for talbot's ground yes it has improved on last years efforts but there is obviously still a fair bit of work that needs to be done. In regards to the training side of things friday nigth's effort was backed up by an equally impressive hit out last night, with some good numbers and a solid workout. Prickles has brought alot of experience into the club and is really on top of his game at the moment.:thumbsu:
