 To the Friday article that is supplied to the Advertiser every Friday. By comparison, look at the reviews the CHFL, LPFL and BFL get in the Courier. I don't know whether they are told to keep it 200 words or less but a little bit more effort is needed to improve the publicity of the league.

I agree the job could be done better, but I think you may find that the CHFL, LPFL and BFL reviews in the courier are written by qualified journalists, and the MCDFNL bloke is new to the job and is not a qualified journo, and is just doing the job for the MCDFNL because the people that were originally approached declined the position.

I am also aware that he would gladly step down from the position if someone else was willing to take on the job. Could be an opportunity for ETG or KR who are both very knowledgeable about matters in the MCDFNL to step up to the plate and have a go at it. Ring Rod Ward at Saxon House and express an interest in the position.

And in fairness, I think the match reports in Tuesday editions have been better than what we got in recent years. At least they are covering the game of the round with a bit more detail.

I agree that the Tuesday report is pretty good.

I had no idea who wrote them and just assumed that a journo from the Advertiser would have done them. If it's not a paid position then we can't expect much more than what we get and it's hard to knock those putting in the work.

Another problem is the Advertiser deadline is before teams would be selected making it hard to put team lists in. Maybe Ward should be getting coaches to send their own comments about how they are preparing and etc into the paper. The Courier is always a good read on a Friday.

MCDFL report in the (Bgo) Addy is supplied. KR and E2G and I have had similar correspondence on this blog before.
Maxwell Martin used to supply the paper's pre-match previews and the post-match write-ups. In the days before computers and mobile phones --- how did we get thru' a working week in thise days, but we did --- Maxwell's articles would arrive in the guard's van of the various trains which lobbed into Bendigo. If a cadet reporter was late getting to the station the duty V/Line bloke would hand over the "green envelope".
Wednesdays for the previews, Sunday nights or Monday a.m. (I forget which, it's a fair while ago) for the match reports/write-ups of the previous weekend's action. Now because he wasn't at all 4 or 5 games many of Maxwell's write-ups about the Sat. action were of a general nature.
This obviously happened again with the weekend's Harcourt-Talbot battle. Like many people I had no idea the Botters had hit the front late in the 4th quarter and the Apple Cider boys had kicked the last 2 goals in the dying moments until I read K. Rich's blog report.
The Addy has a responsibility to its 2 district leagues ---- HDFL & LVFL --- over and above the MCDFL. It's a historical thing too.
Maybe you blokes should have lobbied your clubs over the summer just gone to bring the MCDFL under the Bendigo hub and CEO Steve Oliver. Then the political pressure would have been different all round. The paper's coverage included !!

I think you may be up the wrong tree there jock! I believe E2G and KR were referring to the Maryborough Advertiser, not the Bendigo Addy as you are talking about.

The paper coverage is something that will improve with time, but I don’t think that the Bendigo Addy would have been supplying a reporter to cover the MCDFNL if they were under the Bendigo Hub. (If that’s what you mean jock?)

Perhaps each home club could do a general description of the game and forward the info to the MCDFNL after each game so the press guy could be better informed in future. A couple of big footy boys in KR and ETG would be well credentialled to do the write ups for their prospective clubs.

Regarding your last paragraph Jock! Nothing wrong with the Ballarat Hub! Troy and the boys are doing a great job!

Brook v newtsead Brook by 60 points. There a good side!
Harcourt v Dunolly Harcourt by 50 points.
Trentham v Talbot Trentham by 30 points. They will out play talbot, good kids!
Avoca v creek Avoca by 80 points. Hard hit by Injuries like most others.
Rovers v Maldon Maldon by 25 points. Maldon should be to strong.

Not hiding Zakster,Just called it as i thought it would happen thats what they call IMO.This week have a go at picking a few winners yourself. For the record IMO prickles martin keeps them in games single handed, but why i thought trentham would win is because injuries have hit hard for talbot.Well done on the win thou, would be keen to here from someone from trentham to see if they had injuries problems as well.

obviously prickles is a fantastic player and tremendous leader, but i doubt you can put it all down to one man for the club's success...yes injuries have hit hard but the deciding factor was talbot's willingness to work hard and players ability to step up to cover our injuries...says alot about the players/club IMO...im not sure if trentham were short or not but they just seemed to want to run forward all the time and not defensively enough...u cannot expect to win every contest. The scoreboard could have been alot worse too if we werent so wasteful. what happened to rovers??? just an off day ??

Trentham have no height. They look great when they have the ball but as Sherman said they dont run back the other way. Far more competitive compared to last year though. Great win by Talbot seniors and reserves who were both severely undermanned.

I heard on the grapevine today that Campbells Creek could be looking to get rid of their senior coach sooner rather than later. Apparently the players are a bit disgruntled with him. I have no more details but can anyone confirm or deny??

Rovers had a surprising defeat. Spoke to a couple of Rovers players on the weekend and they dont think they are a top 5 side at this point. The Rovers hierarchy would be terribly disappointed if they missed the finals.

what reasons have you heard rich as i have heard nothing at all in relation to creek...???? thats a big call coming from the rover's players rich. Perosally i believe they are a very skillful side... however if you take the two hedger boys out of that side it leaves a massive hole to fill...did they play on weekend or still out..???...as you said though the committee would be terribly disappointed for them to miss finals after there recruitment campaigne..

I worked with a bloke yesterday who is mates with a few of the boys that have started playing footy there this year and apparently all is not well.

I'll agree with you on most of the games Rich. I'm gonna go out on a limb and back Trentham to beat Talbot this week. Trentham have strengthened their line up over the past few weeks and are starting to gain some momentum. I think Talbot's injury worries will leave them exposed and Trentham should capitalise. Trentham by 2 goals.....

The young Newstead boys played well on the weekend and were only 7 points down at the last change. They lost their full forward and CH forward by 3/4 time and that cost them in the end. Brook run well when they are allowed to.
League Prez Troy looked like he has a new role as an umpire after saturday as well.

The man is a real inspiration to the league! A real jack-of-all-trades! Who was the FF & CHF that went down?

The result between the redbacks and roos was interesting. Are you saying that if you can close down Brooks running game you go a long way to beating them Steader??

Newsteads CHF and FF are new players with Brown the Chf kicking 3 goals in 1st quarter playing 1st game. Carisbrook still looked impressive when they got going. Must mention Kade Rowes continued attack on the man resulting in 2 newstead injuries.

Yeah King, they run from their half backs and rebound well, if you can control their half backs they loose a lot of drive into their forward line. Not easy to do it though, you need your forwards firing.
Brown was CHF and when he kicked 3 in the first quarter they double teamed him.

Tips for this week. Looks to be a very interesting round coming up!

Carisbrook v Harcourt - Carisbrook should get the points in a great encounter. Brook by 5 goals

Dunolly v Trentham - Danger game for Trentham who must win to stay in touch with the final 5. Trentham too have too much class and win by 8 goals

Talbot v Royal Park - Talbot still quite undermanned but anything less than a 100 point flogging would be disappointing!

Campbells Creek v Newstead - I think Newstead are travelling ok considering their losses and should be too good for Creek. If Creek stay disciplined and turn up to play the margin could be close though. I dont think this will be the case however! Newstead by 60 points.

Maldon v Avoca - Bit of an upset I'm tipping here. Maldon will have their tails up after last week and are always tough to beat at home.

Carisbrook v Harcourt - Should bounce back well.

Dunolly v Trentham - 10 goals

Talbot v Royal Park - A sydney style game will result in an 8 goal win.

Cambells Creek v Newstead - Should win comfortably 9 goals.

Maldon v Avoca - 4 goals bellenger will be workman like.

Can you explain ur logic behind predicting a Sydney style game between Talbot & Bushy?
