Would take someone with above average level of intelligence to submit a proposal to AFL to get the funding for a start. No one at the VCFL or the leagues will have the inclination to do it. I also highly doubt that you could get enough in sponsorship. To ensure you get the full strength sides you would need to offer each player a big financial carrot to attend. If the sides aren't full strength it will turn into a joke.

I love the idea though dont get me wrong!

yeah it a great idea, games could be 2 20min halfs, however mnetioned previously would want strongest teams going, fielding their best sides.....IMO most teams would use this as one big piss up for a week/weekend, much like the uni games

I think with the right people behind the concept it would actually turn into something huge.

The piss up would be a problem. However, if I was a flag coach, I wouldn't want my team to get rolled showing a lack of professionalism. The cash offered would be the incentive.

I reckon the runners up teams from their own leagues will have points to prove.

It would be a matter of pride. I'd follow it and I would love to see Harcourt smash Carnam, Calival and Waubra. Even though I hate them during the year, I'd love to see them fly our leagues flag.

The only problem is those teams would just get harder and harder to beat in their respective leagues for the experience.

It's a far better idea than interleague.

well just narrowing the scope for a while, why doesnt our league have a representative team for interleague.....i would love to play in an interleague game with the cream of the crop against another district....this is something the league needs to bring back IMO as i used to love watching it as a kid

I could support Harcourt representing our league but i would really struggle to support Brook in any way, shape or form!

To be honest I'm not quite sure why we dont play it. It wont be an option this season as there are no breaks in the year to allow for it. Personally I'd rather have a longer season to make the comp more even.

We'd need to find a suitable opponent. Lexton Plains or Heathcote Leagues would be the two to ensure we get a competitive game. Not sure why it hasn't been pursued for so long. I know it died because players weren't supporting it.

its something that should be started again, i think i heard a whisper about it last year being started again but obviously didnt go anywhere. the league needs to address this and intice the interest of all clubs and start circulating the idea so that every one is aware of it.
i believe that the league should send out letters for the squad aswell instead of clubs just selecting players that are available

The suitable opponent is tough.

We used to get smashed by the Lexton League in the 90's and that was before the Ballarat teams came along. So that league has got far stronger.

Heathcotte league belts the $hit out of Loddon Valley every time they play. They would pump us. Loddon Valley would be the most suitable opponent.

I just dont think we can fit it in during the year Sherman. Next year will see a far more equitable draw with each club only playing 3 teams once. Having a more equitable draw is the primary concern of the league IMO.

As for interleague selection, pretty sure the league used to select the players not the clubs.

yeah i think the league did too, just saying i remember hearing bout it and someone from the club asking if they woudl like to play, that player is ok but would not make the best 22 in interleague by a fair way.....so need to stop that from happening and make it a more official process like it used to be........ as for it not happening this year all the league needs to do next year is decide that they are going to do it an fit it in with the draw.

Question:

Personal worst ground to play at (Based on opposition, facilities, travel):

Trentham - Long way away, always cold, canteen food is crap, rooms are crap, showers are cold etc etc. Harcourt a close second due to small rooms, travel and strong opposition

Personal best ground to play at (Same criteria but not your home ground):

Royal park - Love the big and lush surface at Hedges although visitors rooms are a little small.

maldon worst IMO, newstead, and harcourt close behind, grounds are all to small aswell as change rooms.

best ground would have to be- royal park , nice wide open spaces, change rooms are too small though, same as carisbrook.

Yep, I agree Sherman. The ground at Maldon is very, very ordinary.

Best ground I would say would be Carisbrook. (I haven't had the chance to play on Hedges Oval without it pi**ing rain)

Ok all, what would you consider the best game of country footy you have witnessed or been involved in (premierships aside)?

best game of country football i have witnessed was rovers and harcourt in the preliminary final 2005, was an un-believable encounter and the lead changed about 5-6 times in last quarter, came down to virtually the last kick of the day i believe

Agree Sherman that was very good I agree. Real heartbreaker for Rovers!

In juniors one year a while ago we only had one win for the year and that was against Rovers who went on to be the Premiers and we were the only ones to beat them which was a really good day.

2004 Semi Final Talbot v Harcourt was a great game to be involved in. We lost and umpiring decisions cost us but was a great game to be a part of. Boys were gallant and they were a pleasure to play with.

That got in my top 3. Mine are as follows.

1. Natte v Carnam @ Lexton. Most brutal, physical encounter I have ever seen. Natte came away with the 6 point win after a Carnam after the siren shot dropped short. The only thing that could top that game was if it was a grand final.

2. Maryborough v Sandhurst in 1998. Five points down with seconds to go and Heath Pritchard kicks a barrell from about 55 to take the 1 point win.

3. The above mentioned by Sherman game.

2005 the undefeated Carisbrook travelled to Harcourt (2nd place). Harcourt were absolutely pumped and came out firing blowing Brook away in the first half. Walking into the rooms at half time Harcourt leading by about 8 goals and their crowd were trappin off aswell as their team as they believed it was game over. The 3rd quarter it was goal for goal and brook couldn't make much leway. More trapping off from a hostile crowd and it was a six goal deficite at 3 quarter time. Final quarter brook came out and showed why it was undefeated gradually scrapping back every goal hitting the front with 10 seconds to go from a Jeremy Sanders bomb. Awesome win and then someone said to Daniel Smith "Carisbrook don't know how to lose". After that game brook had won the flag as Harcourt were pychologically shot.

Probably not won of the best games in Country footy but definately an awesome last quarter. Maybe the roles have been reversed between the two sides at the moment. Maybe.

i think they would be in the top 5 also! They are the best side that has been in the MCDFL for quite a while i think.
.

Sorry fellas but ANY team in the top 5 in the CHFL would beat any team in the MCDFL or LPFL by 10 goals.

I watched the LPFL GF & believe this is a fair gap between leagues.

Since Robertson went to Hepburn a few years back the CHFL has improved dramatically.

I'll admit there is a fair gap between the leagues, but would find it very hard to believe that Bungaree (for example) would beat a harcourt or Skipton by 10 goals. Yes, they may be a better side but I don't think the gap is quite that big...

Maybe... u'd be surprised.. I am going on what i saw in the LP GF & Bungaree would definately beat Skipton ot Carnham by 10 goals.
The top 3 sides would belt them by even more.
Have u seen many CHFL games in the last year?

I saw Clunes V Bunga at Clunes early in the season last year and I think Harcourt would have beaten both those sides that day. Bunga obviously improved as the season went on though. The footy was pretty ordinary that day.

Its always tough to compare as most of us dont see much of other leagues as we are busy playing, officiating or whatever with our own clubs on a Saturday.

I've played in all three leagues and I feel that I have some sort of inside opinion.

CHFL is a long way ahead of the LPFL. And the LPFL significantly stronger than the MCDFL.

What is it that makes the CHFL so strong? That little town called Ballarat. Teams don't lose players because they don't have to leave the region for work.

The gap is huge. I've made the mistake of thinking the MCDFL is solid, but it is centred around Maryborough and Castlemaine. 20,000 people at best. The CHFL surrounds Ballarat with 80,000 plus people. Do the math.

As mighty as Harcourt is said to be, I don't even think they would win the Lexton League.

CHFL is about as strong a district league as you get.

I've played in all 3 and I'll leave it at that.

i agree with this also

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter. These sorts of co<k waving debates prove nothing.

It doesn't matter whether harcourt couldn't beat Learmonth. Harcourt beat the teams they had to and won the MCDFL flag. Learmonth couldn't beat the teams they had to and they finished 3rd or 4th.

Basically, everyone thinks their own league is not far off AFL.

I think this was the case maybe 20-30 years ago where country leagues were reasonably close to the AFL/VFL but these days with how profesional it has become the are miles ahead. even the VFL now is a fair step back, the one that would be closest would be the SAFL at the moment
