I'll say this though, anyone with above average talent should not be playing MCDFL or LPFL. The major leagues are there for a reason. I think Megs finally playing at the higher level is a good move, because a lot of people only rate Major League footy.

.

Thoroughbread, Megs is not finally playing at a higher level. Horsham DFL is only a similar standard as Lexton Plains. Lexton and Horsham used to play Interleague games and not much seperated them.

Also referring to earlier posts about breakup of district leagues in the area, the following was on the Avoca FNC website in 2004.

There are some good ideas on that site regarding league restructures however some are poorly thought out I think. Central Highlands is thriving and they will be very much loathed to change anything. Breaking the league up according to Geography is a good idea but then the gulf between the good sides and the crap sides will widen and there will be less teams to take them on. Currently CHFL enjoys an outstanding finals series which all 5 capable of winning it. Navarre could comfortably into the MCDFL I have no doubt. Trentham in Riddell league may make more sense as I would assume that is a little weaker??

Goat is more than a 100 goal kicker. He is a fantastic leader, he demands excellence from the team, and everyone is in awe of him.

Handley is respected but Goat simply can't be replaced. Gun midfielders are fairly common.

A 6-2, 110kg, ripped, fast, athletic forward is something else. Most of all he was a great leader.

There are some massive shoes to fill. Along with Burke and Hill leaving.

Handley could use his Maryborough connection to bring some good players into that league which most CHFL sides wouldn't know much about. That would my angle if I was in his position.
Gee Thoroughbred thats about the biggest wrap i've ever heard from anybody about a footballer. I haven't seen a lot of clunes but for the last couple of finals series & he was great but i thought they were hardley a 1 man team.Would like to see Handley play BFL in 08 but think he's now intrenched out there

That's how most of the Clunes boys saw him. Although he didn't do too much in BFL, he was a standout leader and player in the CHFL.

Definetly not a one man team but it helps to have a coach that players admire so much.

Handley is great, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure he will be able to bring success in one way or another.

Horsham District would be a stronger league than MCDFL in 07 due to the fact that a lot of clubs host a lot of wimmera/rep players and the league is getting stronger every season.

There is a fair bit of cash in the HDFL they pay rediculous amounts one assist coach said to be getting 1K per game not bad cabbage for a district league, haven't seen MCDFL for some time but I don't think there would be a great differnce, I don't think Wimmera league would be a good as BFL or Bendigo.

Some very interesting notes posted regarding the difference in standard between leagues. I've played in all 4 leagues being MCDFL, LPFL, Wimmera League and HDFL with which I play in at present. The Wimmera League is obviously a higher standard of football than the other 3 leagues, however I wouldn't put it in the same category as the BFL and Bendigo. BEATON5 makes a good point for a change in that HDFL is getting stronger and I belive it to be a higher standard than the MCDFL and LPFL as it is always feeding off the Wimmera League clubs, year after year. Probably a significantly higher standard of football than the MCDFL overall. Although in saying that there would obviously be sides in both leagues that would be competitive against the better sides in the HDFL.

In relation to the Big Fella Megs, I would expect him to have no troubles in handling himself in the HDFL. He has trimmed up quite a bit and is looking at having a big year.

RIGHT on target, Roar.
Last May in inter-league at Barooga. The Sunday round and Bendigo's third and final match of the two-halves only shortened version of the championships, played the last few season.
Bendigo ultimately went through undefeated.

Bendigo 15.4 (94) def. Wimmera 8.3 (51).

Wimmera had ex-AFL player Marc Greig (Warrack Eagles) in the side. David Johns the super-ton goalkicker from Horsham was on the Wimmera list. Not certain whether he played against Bendigo in that Sunday game, however.

Few little snippets on info that I heard on the weekend. Matt Brown is 99% going back to Maryborough so will not be going back to Clunes.

Also spoke for a fair while to a Bushy player on the weekend. They dont have real high hopes for next year. Have recruited that Bramely bloke to replace Egan although they would prefer Egan. No new recruits on the horizon but haven't lost anyone of note with this bloke confirming that Noonan will be saying despite some conjecture that he may leave. So prob expect another year out of finals for bushy.

Few bushy boys are training with natte due to the late (feb 16th) start of their pre season. Couple may be swayed out there.

That is rather late indeed, although if the season gets pushed back (Which I doubt it will) then it might be a smart move. No use flogging the guts out of players for 6 months although half way through Feb is probably a bit TOO late. Any word on which Bushy players they are??? Anyone of note?

Maryborough's 98 & 99 flag teams started in Feb. But they were guys who would bust their gut in the off season to arrive fit. I can't see the Bushy guys doing it.

2 players are of note and people I would have thought are hard core bushy.

Any reason why it cant be posted?? It is obviously common knowledge if they are there in public training with them.

Country footy has changed a lot since 98 & 99 I would suggest in terms of the level of fitness required.

Not really. If you have a team of guys who train hard on their own, there is no point starting early and getting peole burned out by mid season. Mentally and physically.

Most MCDFL teams need to start early though because the majority of the players do nothing in the off season.

It was a closed session. Apparently Natte was furious that info got out. More leaks than the Iraqi Navy.

Nah, they are 2 players Bushy would not want to lose and a mid range player. Take a guess which ones.

Um I'd need to have a look at a program to jog my memory of their good players. Noonan perhaps. Nah I honestly couldn't say as I cant even think of their good players off the top of my head. Forde....... gee I dunno.

I've heard Marty McLelland has had a number of training sessions.

Noonan has not been spotted at Natte.

So you do get down to the Flagstaff hotel then. Fine establisment that one. What's your preferred drink maybe we could catch up for a few and discuss footy in depth.;)

I prefer not to have 1 favourite drink. There are many but the Flag has most of them.

The Flag is the best resource for District League Footy hands down.

How is Carisbrook training shaping up? I heard a whisper that the on track star has been the Big Lizard with his silky skills and lace-out foot skills. Maybe he can take the brook lads for skills practice.

Many clubs started pre-season back yet? How are numbers with the heat etc?

Has the condition of grounds and possible delay to start of season effected any pre-season plans?
