Fair enough. Any clue to the rough geography of the club, in town, out of town or Bendigo club?? How good are the recruits?? What type of players??

I have heard of recruits coming from the Bendigo League. IE Maryborough are set to lose a few into the district league. But the players I have heard are from solid Bendigo clubs.

Although all talk at the moment.

as i predicted , there is a fair bit of discussion on here about potential recruits and recruits, but most clubs will be keeping there prize recruits pretty close to there chest until signed.

There's no point blabbing as other clubs will realise that these guys are up for grabs and put their bid in. Keep it quiet and snap them up before their home club even realises that there is trouble brewing.

So these recruits will be coming to Bendigo clubs or to brook one would think.

Hay fellas alot been happening in the past few days.

Heres a few of my views on what has been discussed.

Assistant Coach should be payed on there playing ability only and maybe a pie and a coke after the game.

Hammo won't go to brook. IMO

Showers at Trentham are a life changing experience.

Natte looking good B+F winner Luke Berlund gone. Jeremy Robinson unlikely.

Lastly no news on Newstead which makes me wonder. The runners up team hasn't had a mention in a month. Is no news good news? Anyone heard anything?

Where is Robinson going? Back to Brook?

Newstead have reappointed Oliver so I would assume Trethowan etc are staying. If they keep that side and add some onballers they will be a force. Haven't heard anything for a while though.

Starting a new topic.

Hypothetically, which five current players in the area (not playing MCDFL) would you want in your team?

My five would be (in no particular order)...

1. Matt Aston
2. Joel Malone
3. Stew Crameri
4. Stephen Ross
5. James McNamee

Aston is an obvious choice. An out an out champion that not only any team in the MCDFL would love to have play with them but any team in country football I’d say.
Stew Crameri is a man mountain. No one would get near him.
Joel Malone is another good choice.
Jenza’s footy has dropped off a bit in recent years. I think his best footy was when he was really young & 1st played senior footy. Still think that district footy is made for him though.
Evans if around would be a definite top 5 pick. Champion.
Steven Ross is a match winner.
I think all clubs would love to have Ben Kick in their team also. Tough & a ball winner
Martin Dell would destroy teams in the MCDFL. Should have won MB B&F. Made the BFL team of the year.
All teams love height & Brad Carmody showed his class when he played his year or two at Brook.
Adam Hurse also made VCFL when he played at Brook I think. He was much improved this year.
I haven’t seen Matt Brown play since he left MB as a on baller but apparently he’s turned into a real champion goal kicker.
A bit MB biased I know, but seeing that I mainly watch MB games I can’t help but be impressed with these guys.

Just while I mention Matt Brown, I’ve been told that we were keen to get him back this year & that a few of the MB local teams were interested also.
I’ve heard that Clunes had approached him, Ben Kick, Brendon Lloyd, Trent Bursil, Ryan Morgan & both Luke & Nick Robinson to all play this season. They all live in Ballarat & apparently train together & have shown interest in getting them to all go as a group.

some names ring a bell there, memory lane stuff.

when i was in the league the malones had the pub near the railway bridge and the kid played for bushy park

frank aston worked on the rail and married father ryans daughter and a crameri had the chaff feed set up in town

maybe these ones are sons of guns?

other names i recall from my days there at rovers were wills, wagstaff, melbourne.walkley, durbs, elliott and kirk the coach.

i suppose its not unnatural for families to follow in the footsteps in country footy.

over here in the west its very hard, most of the teams i played for here in the 70s and 80s no longer exist or have meged with the enemy

a bit like rovers and bushy merging!!! sort of knocks the rivalry side of it out.

jarod roughead at hawthorns uncle brendon has lived in maryborough for decades, did he play footy?and his kids now?

Only saw Carmo when he played against Talbot but I wasn't super impressed I must admit. Always seemed quite slow. Smart footballer yes, but you get the feeling he got a bit lazy after his M/Borough days.

Gadget Hurse is another who would be very handy for brook to get back. Is the type of player they need definately.

Yeah I spoke to Brown and he said he had spoken to Burra. As it turns out and as Sherman reported he is going to Clunes. Interesting, and smart thinking, that Clunes speak to all those players. Word is they have cash to splash around since Weatherly, Harris etc left. Where does Trent Bursill play now?? I also heard that Morgs was going to leave Redan?? Luke Robbo is pretty firmly entrenched at Brook, cant see him leaving. Lloydy doesn't mind Bungaree so he says. I've seen Bursill and Graco training just the 2 of them on the eastern oval one day last year or the year before I think. Fairly dedicated boys!

dont think robinson will go back to brook king rich, may just be taking the year off footy to persue his piloting career or as he goes to uni in melbourne down that way somewhere, not exactly sure why he woudln't play at natte again this year but they are the only reasons i can think off. would be very surprised if he went back to brook.

in regards to newstead , think they will be top 4 again, and as previously mentioned they are a big tall team that needs to recruit more onballers, maybe they are just keeping there recruits close to their chest, im sure with olivers creditablility and the places he has been he is sure to know many ppl that could be potential recruits....

I do no Bellenger just want to see what the club would be like thats all

so would it be fair to say that maybe bellenger has approached you to play for avoca...........??? and you are interested to find out what the club is like from an outsiders perspectivve before you commit..........., or are u just generally ineterested??????

Clunes is actually a low budget club reportedly. Weatherly was playing and coaching for apparently $500 a week. Best value coach in Victoria at that point. All players get paid around $35 a week. There are very few big cash players.

Justin Harris was on a bit. That will free up some cash.

After a fairly successful year in the LPFL he and McNamee could have both gone back and helped Maryborough out significantly. McNamee is obviously not seeing he is coaching Natte.

Brown was on all reports $200+ dollars at Lexton. He'd be taking a fair pay cut to play at Maryborough.

Brown has played the majority of his footy at Maryborough so that might entice him back.

Can't see either coming to the MCDFL though for a while.

not to sure about low budget club, but yes prob not as wealthy as others, form what i have seen they have a pretty good set up, and do very well out of club functions financially. all non contact players get $35 a game, and contracted players get well whateva the club thinks there worth, and they do have a fairly pricey incentive program aswell.

Not low budget for MCDFL but for the CHFL it is extremely low budget. I have heard that Ballan offered a certain player in this region $20k for the season.

That is more than Weatherly got for coaching and kicking 100 goals in back to back seasons.
