They will be competitive no doubt and would be an outside chance of playing finals. I just think that it will be tough for them to play consistently good footy this year with all new players. Will take them time to gel, perhaps even longer than this year.

I heard last night that Newstead may be in trouble with a lack of numbers. Can anyone elaborate on that?

trentham commitee would be hoping they gel sooner rather than later IMO, as i cant imagine the recruits they have gained being long time servants of the club, as they do not have a lot of locals playing there. another poor year for them could see them in the same boat next year, as it would be difficult to afford a new board bunch of players like this season one would persume.

newstead in trouble hey thats seems alittle suprising, noticed they have a few clearnaces in but there is no indication of anyone going????, though big olly would be able to attract a few to the club.....

Hopefully by bringing in these recruits Trentham can get back some of their locals. THat would be the plan I'd imagine. I think they are doing the right thing and the only thing they could have done to keep the club alive and that is to open the wallet.

On the surprise recruits Shamui the first of them signed with the club last night. His name is Travis Ross. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the other half of the surprise signed as well. As I stated previously Shamui - watch this space.

Surprise recruit? I've played on the boy and he was a good footballer. But that was many KG's ago. Has he made it to the track yet?

Who's the other half? Clint? I'd have to call a bull$hit on that one. The only reason either of those 2 would leave Natte for Avoca is for softer training, the guarantee of a game, more likely to get a kick and some cash.

I wish him all the best but if you're banking on him being the player he was at Borough, you've got another thing coming.

Someone mentioned to me at training the other night that Newstead is also struggling for numbers. They dont seem to have many clearances going out yet. Seems that many clubs, particularly out Bendigo way are struggling a little bit.

Anyone know how Rovers went in the night comp the other night?

They went down by 8 points i think..

kr and boys: mate travelling over to the Botters town this sunday for the monthly market .... great fruit and veges he sez
will get him to chek out the ground and the caravan park troops, and will file a report monday after i speak to him
usually they do a bit of a round trip thru newsted so be interesting to c and hear what that ground looks like maybe he'll do the brookers oval too

Did Rovers play well and were Bears-Lagoon no good??? Was under the impression that Rovers may be a fair bit weaker this year.

Rovers went down by 8 points KingRich.. Serp up by about 4 goals going into the last quarter, with Rovers kicking with the breeze. Rovers ended up kicking a couple of goals to get within 14 points and then got another one without the ball going back to the centre to bring them to 8 points... Rovers did kick poorly, if they had have kicked straight would have been a lot closer.

Who played well for Rovers?? Did they have any 'ring-ins' in their side?

The only ones that I noticed were Lee Hoober (Mborough) and Karl Lawrence (Natte). Travaille played at full forward, Pollard played in the centre and Trotter in the ruck. Fraser played quite well. Didn't see too much of their up and coming U17's players. Remember that last year's Rovers U17's were Just a tiny bit off being premiers. There must be some pretty good kids in their ranks that may shine this season. With O'Shea as coach, they have got the right bloke to bring the best out of these kids. Didn't see Elliott take the field.

Interesting that Travaille and Pollard were playing. Obviously they are going to continue with Rovers after it was reported they were leaving. Rovers may still be a finals side but with the losses they have already taken you wouldn't think they could be a force unless they can snag a couple of big recruits before the start of the season. Its good to see that they have hung on to a few of their players. Be interesting to see how they front up come round 1.

How did Hooper go? Cant say I have seen him play but a few people have said he wont be a major pickup for them

Charlie Thompson will join Xavier at Marong. The connection out there is one of their close mates from school days at CCB

Spoke with Harcourt coach Daniel Smith over the weekend and he has said that they havnt really lost anyone else at this stage except maybe ryan everett who's work commitments may keep him away from full time football. He said they are working on a couple of recruits but the main aim is to retain as much of the playing list as possible.

If they lose the Thompsons and keep the rest they will still be a formidable outfit. No doubt they will still pick up the odd handy player. Thanks for that Bloodhound.

Brook are stoked with the pick ups of the Robinsons and a bloke from Kerang who is suppose to be a gun. They are still confident of getting Cass and Carmo back and believe they will have the side to beat Harcourt. Brook training very hard already.

Bloke from Kerang is Luke Treacy.... What sort of player is he? 2 Robbo's, particularly Nick, will be very valuable for the brook.
Are Cassidy and Carmody a chance?? They need a ruckman, particularly now Megs has gone as well. Kicking goals could be the Brooks achilles heal this season.

Its shaping up as a good competitive year I would think with a number of sides pushing for top 5 spots and hopefully 1-2 teams with a side that can challenge Harcourt.

Haven't spoke to Cass or Carmo myself but judging from Cass cricket and training at maryborough he must have finally recovered from that ankle injury so he would be handy out of the goal square and Carmo hasn't been training yet so not sure how his back is but he would definitly fill the ruck void.

Was speaking to a couple of Bushy boys about some of their new recruits for this season. Apparently most should play seniors but there are no stars amongst them. They seem to be quietly building their side up without losing too many so may be in the realms of the top 5 again this year.

There is a league meeting on tonight and one topic of discussion will be if the league is required to put back the season at all. Interesting to see what develops out of that. The league should have at least half of the grounds up and running so although it wont be ideal, the season should go ahead as scheduled.

How much money do we reckon Trentham are splashing around?? They have at least 15-20 new players according to the clearance list and they appear to be coming from all over the shop. Be great if there was anyone with an affiliation to Trentham out there that could fill us in on how they are looking! Some people are saying they could be top 5 but i would seriously find that hard to believe, what a fantastic footy story though if this turns out to be the case!

I'm answering my own questions now! Spoke to a guy this arvo who is in the know at Trentham and he says that all but 3-4 players they have picked up are senior players and they have tried to target only senior players. They are quietly confident of making big improvement this year. They are training at Trentham and in Ballarat and are getting good numbers to both.

Pretty handy player, fringe player in Kerang's senior runner up side to premiers Balranald last season. Would be about 6' but plays taller. Kicked 90+ goals with the U17's a couple of years ago in a side that was very dominant. Is best suited up forward, is a little one dimensional but should provide a good target. Apparently a good bloke too. The word is - pencil him in for 40+ if he plays deep forward.

A decision was made at last night's delegates meeting to start the season three weeks later if significant rain doesn't fall in the next fortnight. The idea is to start the season three weeks later using the current draw and drop off the last three games at the end of the season. The dates for finals will stay the same.

Is the season starting on time? Whats the go? Looks like the North Central are starting on time which is good news for me :) How is Dom Lloyd going down at Avoca?

There is a lot of grey area still there Wonker. The delegates aren't going to reconvene to decide this so its gonna come down to someones decision. It wouldn't surprise me if the season starts on time anyway. With some rain and a bit of effort most grounds should be ready to go. I know Talbot are going to have a crack in the next 2 weeks if we can to get the groundup. Having played on one of the worst ovals in the comp for many years I feel we are all getting a bit precious. Talbot is no worse than any other year.
