I must’ve been too busy playing Candy Crush?
I thought I saw him trailing behind his opponent in our forward line and not placing any pressure at all to lock the ball in or presenting leads or being at the base of (countless) dropped marks to try crumbing the stupid thing...

it had a chris dawes feel to it.

Nup, Dawes was due to eyes closed while attempting to mark and volley ball trampoline hands! physical contact was not an issue! with Dawesy in fact one of his better areas.

Coxs problem is a) physically weak b) doesn't like contact c) has no grit to fight for position like his life depends on it!

That’s like saying Josh Thomas would have had a great game if his kicks went a flat 60m to the advantage of a teammate.

Marking under pressure is not his go. Like Darcy, he can mark when allowed to run and jump at the ball, but unlike Darcy his second efforts are completely futile and he can’t chase, lay a tackle or pressure a defender.

He couldn't even hold his ground to compete in 4 separate contests on the wing (down the line bail out kicks) that come his way.
As stated earlier in GD thread; they were weak as piss efforts and was looking for free's! Another thing that pies players tend to do a lot, they stop playing and ask the umps "hows that!" cricket style, meanwhile play continues!

My first reaction to Cox's performance was that he needs to be dropped. He can't mark when there's body contact, and besides relief ruck, he does little else. But i'm also sure he had a really bad game and that happens sometimes. I'm not sure i'd have the guts to do it but it'll be interesting if Buckley keeps the faith. Cox won't learn how to hold marks in the VFL because of his size advantage and the quality of players he's up against there. There's not much to be gained for his development by dropping him. But the team would be better for it. I reckon Mihocek comes in and Moore goes back forward.

With where we are as a club we ar better off removing all doubt persist for 5 weeks an if same, same ...drop and move on permanently!

The issue is for less well drilled team he will have "good moments" purely due to size!

After calming down over night, I tend to agree. But if that’s the case we keep the same structure another couple of weeks. I was disturbed by the way Reid wasn’t being hit up on the lead though - just ended up standing there underneath the ball.

Even as bad as Cox was, and that is pretty bad, I can't see why you'd drop him after one such game. He has had some fairly serviceable games in the past that warrant some degree of patience. The only way from here is up but if we get the same next week then it might be time to consider the options. You simply can't have someone in the side that contributes as little as Mason did last night.

I agree that we need to persevere with him and hope that he learns from last night. We have him for the next three years.

The reality is that if you dump him now then you give yourself no chance of getting anything out of him. Having given him a 3 year contract you have no choice but to try and work him into a position where he is worth his spot and that won't happen if you drop him at the first hurdle.

As horrendous as Cox was last night,
I struggled to find anything impressive about Grundys game either tbh.
Makes dumb decisions regularly, hardly takes a mark up forward and never impacts the scoreboard.
Doesn’t help Masons cause no end.

I would agree with this, Cox at least got to contests and brought the ball down, his hit out at times were to our advantage, were Grundy's?

I would rate Cox's game as better than Grunndy's, the bar not set high there obviously

You rate Cox’s game better than Grundy’s? :drunk:
Cox’s game was the worst single players game I think I’ve ever seen.

Hot and cold. Will probably come out and kick 3 next week. Not his fault he is being played as #1 or #2 tall when he is really only a #3 tall... ruck forward

Remember when we used to have three 190cm + players in our forward line? Cloke #1 tall, Dawes #2, L Brown #3... worked well

Now we have 58 inside 50s in a game for only 6 marks inside 50.

Poor list management means we have to rely on only Cox and Reid up front. Even young 190cm Murphy with good hands is being trained up as a defender... cause with Dunn, Mihocek, McLarty, Shaz Howe, Langdon, Moore... cause we don't have enough 190cm defenders on our list apparently.

As someone else said, the fact that he gets games ahead of a guy like McLarty is an insult.
One has played footy his entire life while the other picked up the ball a few years ago.

We are wasting and continue to waste precious development minutes on a 26yr who is useless when McLarty would be best served to be playing.

Worst game he has played, but have to back him again. Thought he was reasonably solid in the ruck and got to good positions, albeit his marking was exceptionally poor last night. Thought Grundy had a poor game in the ruck as well. Those blind bombs he does out of defence, particularly when near the goal line are frustrating.

Unfair on Dawes. Even when he wasn't playing well, Dawes took st minimum 3 marks a game jn 2012. Cox took a grand total of 0 last night....

He has a career average of something like 2 marks per game.
Last night he tool 0 from something like 14 attempts.

Who in there right mind would make him a key pillar to build a forward line around when you look at the above numbers?

Cloke used to cop shit but never delivered that kind of output, ever.
