Yeah. He has played more with Essendon group than he ever did with any kids in his Jr days
If he wants to come home it will be for one or more of the following reasons.
1. Money.
2. Family
3. Might have been a rabid fan of an SA club and wants to play for the team he Baracked for.

Izak Rankine for instance had all three of those in his list.

I am pretty sure Essendon could offer Redman more money than The Crows.

If he leaves, it definitely would be for family reasons.

Redmans a gun but we wouldnt pay stupid money for him ,nor should me

if the crows through stupid money at him and that was his desire. We would probably let him go.

I wouldn't, he is more important to your culture and structure than you realise.

Based on what? Not just reading it club board I hope

Losing Eddie Betts (different player and scenario I acknowledge) set Carlton back years, the players trust in the board and on field chemistry was broken for a significant amount of time after that happened, not saying the same thing will happen to Essendon if Redman leaves, but I definitely think it's a possibility.

There is no guarantee the player you would draft with the compo would be better than Redman anyway (now firmly a top 30 player or so in the comp)

Redman will get offers to what he is worth, the idea of 850k (as someone posted earlier) as a potential offer from Adelaide would be utterly laughable.

I am more than confident that he will stay, but if his main ambition is money, then he will most certainly leave.

Well, it's the smart move for Essendon to not match and force a trade so we don't need to use trade capital isn't it???

Win-win then.

if you think paying Redman 850k a year is a win than jesus, i hope you arent invovled with the Crows actual recruiting team.

With our salary cap situation, i'd be happy to offer 2 years at 850k to get essendon band 1 then extend next 3 years after at something like 600k per year. Averages out over 5 years at 700k p/a. Do it exactly like brisbane with daniher

It's all depends where we finish we won't be taking any compo unless it's in the top 10 imo

Not unless that compo pick is a top 10
I think anything first rd for redman is a win imo.
Its not the most irreplaceable spot on the ground and we have a few who can slide into that spot as it is.

If redman going means 3x 1st rd picks in hand over the next 2 years it opens a lot of possibilities up tradewise

Why don't put Port Adelaide put their hat into the ring for Redman, now they have missed out on Kozi Pickett (not that he was ever going to leave the Dees anyway)

Their Half Back line could do with some dash that Redman would provide.
they do like our players

Wanganeen
CC
Dimma
Ryder
Fantasia (sorry...not really though :p)

Apparently they are "stacked" in that department (running joke is these are the type of players they keep drafting) but not KPD. They might come late to the party like they did with Dawson.

But yes you can do that. I don’t think Essendon would be complaining if Redman decided he wanted to leave and we were gonna get pick 10. We let Melksham and Hibberd go for second rounders a few years ago and I don’t think anyone is arguing that he’s a better player are they? So if you wanna give a better pick so we don’t match the bid, well we’re not gonna say no.
Redman is playing much better football than Melksham was. Hibberd was playing near-AA quality football (and got AA after leaving). However, both of those were saga players, Hibberd especially just after the ban, so the price may not be fully representative.
Hibberd's best is every bit as good as Redman's.
Hibberd's best footy was AA standard.

I think Redman is a key player for us to retain. Given we've got plenty of bucks, hopefully it happens.

Was about to reply with this too re Hibberd.
Hibbered was a big loss for Essendon, one of our best defenders coming into the prime of his career. It was though understandable in light of that saga situation we were willing to trade for only a 2nd round pick. This wasn't Melbourne getting lucky or Essendon underestimating Hibberd's worth either.
Under normal circumstances Hibberd would have been a first round pick.

slightly unhelpful that they also traded that pick as part of the deal to get ahead of us for Oliver

Cheers Dees :p
