So from what I’m reading here, despite our bad play this quarter we’re still finding opportunities to score…failing at that too, but opportunities all the same

We didnt look great going forward that qrt.

Need to put Bull forward as Curtis hasn’t done anything.

But frustrating when they were nailing boundary line shots into the wind and we missed 3 relatively easy set shots with the wind.

Same amount of scoring shots is an improvement imo. Stopping goals in last 2 minutes a quarter also important as some have suggested . Stop x 4 goals a game that’s something we need to improve on has a big say in results.

It is incredible how much we improved through implementing a consistent defensive press.

Some great signs across the first half - LDU, Logue/Mckay combo, Phillips, Goater/Stephenson dash, Shiels, Comben/Larkey combo, Curtis, Sheez.

Shouldn't really need to be stated, but you never know with this place... The second quarter we were lining up Zurhaar, LDU, Curtis & Goater against Dusty, Taranto, Hopper & Prestia for extended periods. No s*** they kicked a few goals.

Xerri is doing as well as can be expected, likewise Bonar. CCJ disappointing as was Jack.

Tigers starting to beat us up around the ball, which is to be expected. Not a day for the KPPs and we don't have the crumbers to lock it in yet.

Bergman, Goater, Phillips, Stevo (& Ford?) all big ticks for me.

Half Time:
North 4.5 29
Richmond 6.4 40

5 goals to 1 from Richmond, they kicked well for goal but opened us up defensively. Ziebell and McDonald continue to kick long to nobody and setup damaging rebounds against us. LDU not using the ball well.

Phillips played pretty well. Some mediocre defensive efforts in that quarter, Richmond converted well.

I think they clamped down on the space we had in the first quarter, they have a pretty strong midfield out there, our short game is mediocre so far, not a lot of uncontested marks going forward so we look a bit sloppy, the same campaigners who kick long and can't hit a target continue to play that style of football that got us nowhere previously.

Good first quarter. Average second quarter. Yes it's windy but some very poor shots at goal from Ford X 2, Stevo and Chom, kick two of those and we're a point down. Need to make the most of our opportunities. But overall it's a substantial improvement on this time last year. Our time will come.

We had the better of it before they went on a 10min blitz and converted every chance. We missed all our half chances.

Ziebells first instinct is to throw it on the boot. I think Richmond scored twice off his turnovers. Just not good enough. Can’t play seniors.

That was a bad quarter but an improvement on the bad quarters we've been accustomed to if that makes sense. Still a bit worried that most of the goals conceded were caused by being outnumbered in the forward line but this is the best time to make these team structure errors and learn from them.

Super impressive so far though to match it with a finals bound team with the all outs.

Anyone would think it's a scratch match or something.....

Kind of sad you can have five goals kicked against you in a quarter while only kicking one yourself and still see improvement on last season.

oh well indeed

Ziebell is an absolute liability. Quick kicks that go 25 meters. It’s just plain rubbish football.

LDU is a fricken star.

Looks bloody windy.

Sheezel will be better than the cry baby.

I like Zurhaar in the guts.

I so want Bonar to make it but not sure it’ll happen.

Realised I have the same concern with McDonald as with Ziebell.

At their best they are 100% courage and can take strong marks and hoof it long. But there's little tactical thought about it, there's not the ability to quickly reassess and pull it short or open up play.

Basically when they take possession more often than not you can pick their exact outlet as a spectator. Which means the opposition can too.

We lack speed against such a quick side like Richmond. We are at the start of the build so I would hope that Clarko is seeing these areas of improvement and shares with the strategic minds that count.

Good learning opportunity that quarter - as long as we learn from it. The biggest difference was how hard the Richmond midfield worked, most of their goals were from Hopper, Taranto or Prestiia working hard to get forwards and impact the contest, with our midfield following and not working hard enough.

A lot more positives than negatives from my perspective though
