Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

I pointed out the most important part for the sake of brevity. When people look back on it, they'll distill it into a few components but Walker in career best form will be at the top of the list.
Or Walker had his best season in the last few years due to our fast ball movement which all tall forward want?

I’m surprised over 47% still think he’s the right coach.
Surely if he doesn’t drop out of form senior players next week even the most loyal supporters of Nicks will start to have doubts.
Sadly I heard someone at the game last night say we need Sloane back in the middle.

Credit for identifying our core issue I guess.

It's a long season, I think most of you are jumping the gun.

At least your not stuck with a Hinkley like coach.

Nick's will be classed a mastermind once you beat Port in both showdowns again.

And you think we are jumping the gun.
We’ll get spanked.

Sitting at the footy last night pissed off and wondering why our coach is so useless. We don't have a forward capable of taking a pack mark and haven't had for quite a while. So bomb the fing thing high and long.
Our forward line nearly always has 36 players in it. It is a cluttered mess where wrestling matches take place every week. No room for forwards to lead--if they are capable of doing so.
Our run off half back has evaporated.
We constantly try to come out of the backline with short kicks into the left back pocket. 3 or 4 short kicks, we're still in their 50, they've set up behind the ball and the only option is to kick long down the line.
Both sides last night looked like candidates for bottom 4. They were less worse than we were.
All the hype over the off season and we serve up this heap of bullshit.

I think when we look back, 2023 will be an anomaly brought about by Tex's dominance.
A few of us mentioned this and were howled down saying they put money on Tex to win this years Coleman

At the moment a 35 goal season would be an achievement

Run and gun from defence opposition hate it you can’t settle into position like Stewart and forwards get on the move more

This is valid

Nice guy - they usually do ok but dont climb mountains. They pack the gear for the bloke who does.

This is why the re-signing was wrong in my opinion. I feel he has taken us as far as possible. Its time for the finisher

There should have been a backroom deal where we have already signed the finisher for next year and Nicks is a senior assistant

You know the good guy mate that the players go to to complain about the mean ole coach - who gets them a Premiership medallion

What I like about him is that he's really flexible with training. If you're a senior player and you've got anything more important on, like a Shaun Smith concert or lunch with mates, you don't need to worry training, Nicksy is really supportive of footy coming a distant second. Just so good.

I don't blame him for playing Crouch/Dawson/Laird midfield. Rachele hasn't looked up to it as a midfielder this preseason and Pedlar looks a mile off. We need Rankine forward more than midfield. At least Nicks is trying him in spurts.

Berry struggled tonight. I think its possible he comes good but he has a lot of work to do on fundamentals which is a concern but potentially fixable. At the same time he doesn't compliment this midfield mix.

I would give Rankine 20-30% CBA and while I'd like to see Berry get a run first, its hard given the type of mid he is. Its time to throw Soligo in there for a bit.

I'd make Crouch no.1 for CBAs and rotate Dawson on a wing. He dominated there at Sydney and he can still be fed the ball. Maybe drop Dawsons CBAs by 20%.Laird can come off HF a bit more.
I like all of this except for Laird playing forward. He is has never really been comfortable or effective in the forward 50 and I doubt he ever will be. He started out as an excellent half back, he can shuffle back in there again.

So Plan B was "Stewart is so good that even if we put someone on him he could still impact the game, so just don't put anyone on him at all and let him dictate everything in our forward line"?

We're an excuse driven club. Has anyone mentioned the energy sapping heat we played in last round? Our coaches have the same attitude as the average FB poster.

And the wind and lack of sun this round.

Apart from 1 year under Leon Cameron, all of Nick's coaching development was under Hinkley. We've got a very Hinkley like coach.
