Nicks record in the opening two rounds of the AFL season across his first 5 years is 1 win 9 losses.

Disappointing - especially over the past 3 years where we have gone 0-6.
Every season he throws out everything he learned in the previous season and places far too much weight on pre season training form.

So he ends up selecting a shit side that he has to fix 3-4 rounds in.

The side he selected round 1 this year and last year were both conservative trash that sent us backwards

So WaynesWorld19 starting to have doubts about Nicks yet?
Yes

Lets be clear here on my statements and position

I've been fully supportive of what Nicks has done, with a young, developing list ....evolving gameplan as each draft added another layer of talent to the list ....and the additions of Dawson & Rankine

But I've been clear ...the rebuild has finished, and the expectations elevated .....the first 2 weeks has been nowhere near the level of expectation .....and IMO the whole Club has got ahead of themselves

Unlike you, I prefer to make assessments, taking in all the situational analysis ....not just a one dimensional POV

No way. You’ve been wrong.

2022 you defended our defensive game plan “all rebuilds start with defence”. I told you we were not teaching defence, we were protecting them by playing Dawson back and pushing our forwards around the contest. Doing that we weakened our strongest line, our forward line.

I also said once we play an attacking game plan our defence will be exposed and that’s what happened in 2023.

2024 and we’ve said we are going to focus on defence. Hang on what was 2022 about?

So our 2024 game plan is slow kick pass game so we again protect our defence from quick transition on turnovers but it’s come at the expense of our strength, our forward line as the opposition are flooding our forward line. The idiocy of this is we are getting scored against anyway.

You also argued that Nicks was the man to take us forward and re-signing him early was the obvious call. Others said wait.

You can’t now rewrite your narrative Wayne. You were wrong, just admit it without the qualifications because you’ll just embarrass yourself even more. It’s taken you a whole 2 games to flip on Nicks, now that’s embarrassing.

One of the biggest issues is that Nicks isn't a tactical or intelligent coach. Have been screaming from the mountain tops he was brought in to be the nice guy and rebuild the culture. He has done a fine job of this IMO, but to expect him to coach us to the next step is folly (without a senior assistant).

The biggest worry for me watching tonights game is that we have been figured out. Last year we were the highest scoring team and very bloody efficient (5th for inside 50's - #1 for goals).

Tonights debacle:

Inside 50's - 66. 11 goals. Inside 50's per goal - 6. Marks inside 50 - 9. Goal assists 7

(2023 - we averaged 54 Inside 50's,13.2 goals, 3.2 Inside 50's per goal, 13 marks inside 50, 9.8 goal assists.)
He made a tactical change in the 4th quarter were we chipped through Geelong's zone instead of bombing the ball and we kicked a goal and then went back to bombing the ball, he is stubborn and want to prove he can win with his game plan and why he stick with senior players in shit form whereas the youngsters are more expendable.

Your judgement of Nicks is irrelevant ....you're locked into the win/loss emotion ....and have said in your post, change your mind off the back of one win / loss

What you fail to identify is, if you don't go with Nicks .....who are you replacing him with ....another untried coach, I assume

On your analysis .....GEEL should have sacked Thompson & RICH should have sacked Hardwick

Nicks has stripped the Club and rebuilt every aspect ....inc luring Burgess, who's no fool, in terms of who he wants to be associated with ....his rep is everything to Burgess
He deserves 2 years ....and was ALWAYS getting it ...that's why everyone is comfortable

Next stage though, is to see if Nicks can navigate Finals wins ....we'll know that over the next 2 years ....and that'll be a whole new set of judgements .....one tick though, Nicks was heavily credited with getting GWS to their first GF
“Locked into this win/loss. Change your mind off the back of one win/loss”

It’s only take you 2 losses Wayne 😂

lol. It’s taken you 2 games Wayne. I reckon I could do this all day 😂
Are you trolling him? Did you apologies to him that you were wrong by saying Geelong will make the Finals when they started to win a few games last year when he correctly called they won't? How about you start with that first.

Apologise for being wrong about Geelong? You think that’s worthy of an apology? They missed finals after winning the flag. Look at how Collingwood are going.

But have a look at Geelong now, this team that Wayne said were finished last year just beat us at home easily. So they are hardly finished.

As for Wayne, he’s been a staunch Nicks advocate and he’s flipped after 2 games. If you don’t think that’s worthy of ridicule and equates to being wrong on whether a team makes the 8, well you’re just being you.

Finished? I thought he just said they won't play Finals, I also think they will just miss out this year but they still have very high quality players which will put them around the mark. So what if they beat us easily last night, we played like shit and their other win was a close win against the Saints at home when in the past they would have smashed team like the Saints at home.

Why did he say they won’t play finals?

Yes the Nicks coached Crows played shit.

Doesn't mean they are "finished" and are rebuilding, they still have a few not just quality players but high quality players which will put them around the mark. Last night we played like shit except for the 2nd quarter and a bit of the 4th just we played like shit for the first 2.5 quarters last week and why I said the next 3 weeks will be telling.

Go back and read his comments about Geelong last year. They’ve still got the same old players from last year except for Smith

I'm sure I read he said they will miss the Finals but not they were "finished" and are rebuilding. Yes, same old players but a few of them are not just quality but high quality ones in Stewart and Cameron so like last year they will be around the mark.

He’s not alone, look at the poll at the top
85% of people who voted in the other thread had us making finals too. Wayne has been particularly stubborn but a large portion of the board got suckered in.

I think when we look back, 2023 will be an anomaly brought about by Tex's dominance. The rest of Nicks's tenure will be a regression to 21/22 levels of performance. I don't think we'll plumb the depths of 2020 again. That's the only nice thing I can say.

Yes, Walker kicked the ball to himself with the fast ball movement we played last year.......

I’m surprised over 47% still think he’s the right coach.
Surely if he doesn’t drop out of form senior players next week even the most loyal supporters of Nicks will start to have doubts.
That would lead me to think all the directors are on bigfooty

I pointed out the most important part for the sake of brevity. When people look back on it, they'll distill it into a few components but Walker in career best form will be at the top of the list.
