THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

So point to the suspensions for players who jumped to attempt species and in the process knee their opponent in the head.

For some reason this is a protected act in the AFL, you can knee people in the head when contesting a mark.

Maynard was not contesting a mark so the exception does not apply. And you know this.

reasonable contact after a attempt to smother

s**t does still happen , its a contact sport FFS
Yet all the other shit happens incidents throughout the season have resulted in multiple weeks suspension.

I do agree that it is just a football incident and should be zero weeks but the AFL have for the entire season given weeks suspension for this type of football incident.

Should the MRP change their stance just because it is finals

It’s like Keno at the pub lol

But you just declared "leave the ground and you are responsible for what happens next."

So that's not the case.

It is not the case when contesting a mark, as has been explained to you, and as you already know.

If this is the kind of defense that Collingwood's KC's try to go with, he could be in trouble.

Left the ground to smother the kick. AFL will try it but he shouldnt go. May as well go to touch footy if that is a suspension

And if its cleared then players should always jump when bumping and claim it was a smother attempt. Even though the ball was already 5m away, having been kicked.

Before the start of this match it had been agreed that if you leave the ground and collect someone high its your responsibility.

Apparently now its ok. So start jumping and collecting heads. Open season fellas !

So when preforming football acts there's an exception.

Is a smother a football act?
It may have started out as a smother but it certainly didn't finish as one.
