THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

He's cognitively set and plays in an aggressive player so that was his reaction to turn his body

I wasn't and post smother as mentioned would have put my hands out in front of me to protect my body and head from colliding

Everyone is wired and reacts differently

Then he hits him in the head with a fist or elbow and gets the same suspension!

All the footballing panel at the game agreed with that toss pot, the bias dear esmay seems to be coming from people with an axe to grind with him and his club.
Been a clear media agenda to push for him to get off since it happened, not once have any of them mentioned the fact he turns the shoulder into brayshaw which tells you we can take their opinion with a grain of salt.

Someone mentioned it here just now, if that is his teammate then he isn't roling the shoulder in and knocking him out which means he made a choice and must pay for that choice.

He 100% would still roll the shoulder because that is a natural action to protect yourself.

So a deliberate elbow to the face after running past the ball is worth less then an incidental head contact where the player was just trying to brace for contact on collision.

Well standards are set accidents equal bad, deliberate take outs equal not so bad

McStay came back on, Maynard sent Brayshaw to hospital and misses next week.

Maynard didn’t elect to bump, he elected to smoother. He braced for impact after that like absolutely any other player would with an elite athlete streaming full pace towards them.

Brayshaw wasn't a threat to him though and wasn't able to protect himself like Maynard did, Maynard failed in his duty of care to Brayshaw.

He may not have intended to knock Brayshaw out but he was reckless by jumping in the air and putting his shoulder into Brayshaw's head.

He had other options that wouldn't have caused Brayshaw to be injured as badly as he was.

Very clear analysis of situation that will rub Maynard out for 1-2 weeks.

In a club match simulation would he have ROLLED HIS SHOULDER IN AND HIT HIS TEAM MATE IN THE HEAD or ARMS DOWN ON SHOULDERS OR ROLL TO OTHER SIDE to protect HIS TEAM MATE. nah, thug act = no more finals. Bye bye

Just a quick question for the posters . If Maynard jumped like that but it was one of his team mates he was going to collide with instead of Brayshaw do you think he drops the shoulder or puts his hands out ?
Ginnivan would have been safe as he would have ducked undernearth

Cleared by Christian. Afl step in to overrule and announce a “joint” referral to the tribunal 🤣🤣🤣. Righto whatever you say afl house. Sounds all above board. Going to be an interesting tribunal hearing when a panel of football people are very likely to find exactly what Christian did

The Match Review Officer and executive general manager of football Laura Kane graded the incident as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact, drawing a minimum three-match ban and means Maynard's season could be over.

Interesting wording from AFL.com.au. Spin?

Of course Christian would…and let’s consider how bad that bloke is at what he does
