THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

I got shouted down by Kreuuuzeurns for this but I've been vindicated in the reasonings for the verdict. This in particular.
'It is not an irrelevant consideration that these other possible methods of landing foreseeably have resulted in harm to Maynard'.

As in what if Maynard tries to catch Brayshaw but Brayshaw bumps legitimately, Maynard ends up with broken ribs and a punctured lung and looks like an idiot sustaining such injuries.

AFL's case was weak. As were the peanuts who were arguing it's case.

I've actually got no real issue with Maynard, but the tribunal have basically accepted the evidence that once a player leaves his feet he's not in control of his body or responsible for the results of his actions.

It's an interesting precedent.
They are essentially ticking this off because if they didn’t then they’d be outlawing the speccie amongst other things. However, my thought is that when you’re about to run into something your arms are outstretched to slow you, not your shoulder.

Still makes no sense to me that he turned his body instead of putting his hands out in front like a normal person who is about to hit something.

Does he turn his body and use his when he's about to hit the out of bounds fence or stop with his hands?
Instinct dictates that you will protect your internal organs before your brain can make a conscious decision to protect someone else. Easy example is when someone pretends to punch you in the stomach, your automatic reaction without thinking is to hunch over and protect your internal organs with your arms.

Two players from Victorian clubs have an incident. Tribunal clears one Victorian player.

So the Sandpeople post #VICBIAS
A player from a Victorian Club playing finals has an incident which knocks a player out and could end their career, and the tribunal clears them. What does it matter which club the victim plays for?
A year on from another player from another Victorian club approaching finals has an incident which knocks a player out, and the tribunal clears them.

so yeah, #VICBIAS can be part of the narrative.

Didn't a Giants player get off last week?
Bedford? That was laughable to even be cited in the first place.

But bear in mind the AFL tribunal actually thought that was worse than this one and he had to appeal it at the Appeals Board to get off. Not sure that’s making the point you want it to make

Can you imagine if say Viney knocked out Pendles the same way Maynard did to Brayshaw. Pies supporters would be saying the exact opposite to what they are all saying now
Pendlebury can see, as do 98% of AFL players coming directly in his/their path , swerve or sidestep like the Matrix he is , let this be a lesson kids , stay in your left lane and give way to the right at all times. 😉

Laura Kane is looking stupid now. Burnt money on the tribunal hearing for nothing.

We got the only just outcome. It’s been pathetic the way Melbourne has carried on
What’s Melbourne done other than expect a decent result at the tribunal for someone knocking out a Melbourne player?

Come on, what a load of blarney. AFL saving face as they know if this banned then so much more will be banned.

He wasn't running into anything. He was airborne.

You didn’t get shouted down by anyone. Not every debate is an argument.

You are right that the afl were incredibly weak.

Hate to see you if you trip over, hip and shoulder the ground every time is gonna hurt.
Same for all those players that get pushed towards the fence.

it’s about mindset. and we know what Brayden Maynard’s on field mindset is.
